I remember when I was a kid playing Tomb Raider 2, I didn't know that I could save the game at any time. For the first couple of days, I played without saving and managed to reach this level.😂😂

The Opera House level they add so much cool lightning stuff and details... Love it!!! And as a former gardener I can say that orange plant can grow on a balcony but don''t expect large ones, because they love their climate like Italy or Greece... :)

"This is one that I prepared earlier" 🤣🤣🤣 That one cracked me up real good... Also, I hope you'll get your Bartoli's Hideout-inspired library one day! 😎 And I agree completely about Vertigo as well. It's such an amazingly beautiful track that's just WAY too short, and too sparsely used. It shows up in Kingdom as well, but again... only for 50 seconds, or however long the track is 😭 We need (AT LEAST!) a 3 minute version of it.

Don’t feel weird about spending the entire level describing your ideal library, this level is charming us all. Something that TR2 levels have is a visual presentation that feels warm, cosy even. Bartoli’s manor is in total shambles but the fact that keeps some of it’s original beauty make us wish we saw it in good shape.
The improved sky really is my favourite step-up from the original graphica since, as you mentioned, it makes the transition from the clear sky at Venice to the night in Opera House way smoother.
The narrative point of view this level is pure bonkers as it feels like a mirror version of Home sweet home as now it’s Lara who’s storming the Fiamma Nera’s base. The ending of the level might be one of my favourite and one of thos moments that make me love TR2 this much.
Bartoli's Hideout is where I first got that "Tomb Raider intrigue" to keep going, just how versatile it could be that Great Wall and Venice feel so different yet it gets you the same eager to explore a new level. Can't wait for your reaction on the Opera House remastered version.

Weeee! Ive ploughed ahead a bit fast and im on the temple of xian now.
Ive done well with pickups until this point but have stopped being able to find all of them.
Think from the monastery onwards im less familiar (though i was forced to miss a pickup there cos an enemy died on a slope so i couldnt get it!)

It’s so tough to remember all the pickups! I usually miss a few as the playthrough progresses 😅 I hate when enemies die in a weird place and you can’t get their pick-up 😭💔
I Think The Temple of Xian is The Most Viually Stunning and Heart Pounding Level in The First 2 Tomb Raider Games ... it is Truly Breathtaking and Magnificent

The Chandelier room music is so special. It has a very similar effect on me to how it does to you. I'd forgotten about it until I was playing the remaster, and had to stop playing and listen to it. Mesmerising!

I have a lemon tree in a pot due to this game. The venice levels had such an affect on me and my mum when playing through this game.

Miniature orange trees aren't hard to look after at all and will give off a delightful fragrance when they bloom. The only downside is that the smaller the tree, the more sour the oranges will taste, at least in my experience. They also make for great bonsai! They only grow as big as you, or rather the container you keep them in, will allow.

@@suzannetheraider It is, handling books and gazing at books and even smelling books is incredibly therapeutic! The upkeep's a chore, though... But worth it!
Regarding the small potted orange tree, they are most likely a type of Citrus sinensis (Navel oranges). They are probably grafted, which allows them to flower and bear fruit at a small size. If you keep them in a small pot, it will restrict the growth of the root system, and the tree will be unable to grow to a large size. However, over a long time this can lead to root-binding, where the roots circle and fill the pot, which can harm the tree's health in the long term. Navel oranges don't like the cold, and they should be kept in a well-lit room during the winter. You should also make sure both the balcony and the wintering room get lots of sunlight, for example south facing.
Do you know the most hilarious part? The upper part of the grafted orange tree is called a "scion"! We have successfully gone full circle and brought this tangent back to Tomb Raider lore! In this case the "c" is silent 🤭

I've missed you, Suzanne 💖 Marco's backstory cracked me up 'cause I was not permitted to read Harry Potter as a child but I can remember playing Tomb Raider as young as 8 maybe even smaller. In a sense, that makes Lara my Harry Potter she's the character that raised me.
I always loved all the little details they put into the mansion, and it got such a good makeover here in the remaster too! I have always liked the idea that this big, powerful and scary mafia mob boss that everyone is terrified of just so happens to have sunflower wallpaper in his home haha

An orange tree can be quite big, and unless it's a cultivar for more temperate climates, grows best in countries like er ... Italy and Spain.
... afterthought ... as you asked you can get miniatures that grow in pots, you'll have to ask 🙂.

I too love books, I can't resist them, I have hundreds ... I remember you mentioning that one of your previous ambitions was to work in a library. I think you would fit right in in my local library where they have three sittings of childrens sing-songs every Thursday morning.
I know that this is your second playthrough, but I can't imagine that your first was any better than this 💙.

Yeah, I adore this level. Always felt it was slightly under appreciated, especially being surrounded by two fan favourites, I prefer it to Venice. The gorgeous design of the mansion, the way you can constantly see ahead towards the end of the level, and the beautiful evening light. I think the slightly yellowish clouds on the horizon in the original are meant to suggest sunset, but it’s done a thousand times better in this one. And the music in the chandelier room is probably my favourite piece in any TR.
The two creepy masked people in the portraits - unsettling. Not sure I even want to know who they are haha.
They have a secret bookshelf door in a pub in Nottingham. Unfortunately it leads to the toilets and is very difficult to find when you’re drunk!

36:40 I think it's every child's dream, to have that secret Narnia, Harry Potter-esque. I'd still wanna have a secret room in my house, but with the current climate I don't think I'll ever live comfortably in a house, but I'm completely fine with being in my quite big apartment, with a balcony. 😅
38:30 Yes, there's a bunch of visual (and not only) glitches and hopefully they are gonna get fixed this month, not in April. Since major part of the patch has been ready for quite a while (according to some texts on forums).

I just want Lara's indoor gyms. Specifically with the climbing walls from TRL/TRA. That would be my dream.
Hoping they patch those visual glitches soon. If not, I hope the modders can at least come up with their own bundle of fixes for the whole remaster in one package. The texture glitches kinda remind me of a common bug that would happen in the original TR3 where all the textures would go bananas and you'd see Lara's face all over the floor and whatnot. It's unexpectedly unsettling.

Hi, now I have seen people playing Tomb Raider 1,2,3. I would like modern games like Tomb Raier. Not to have where you have got to go marked with something. As it seems to easy like that. Looking around finding place with secrets was fun to me. I miss it.
Don’t feel weird about spending the whole level talking about your ideal library, this level really triggers us to do so. Something that a lot of TR2 levels have in common that, most of the rest in the classic saga don’t have, is this charming feel, even cosy. It’s a pity to see Bartoli’s manor in shambles but the fact that the level tells us that back to its days it was beatiful makes us wish to see it in good shape.
Narratively this level is awesome since it’s like a mirror version of Home sweet home, but Lara comes on top as well 😎. Storming into a nest of a mafia like this is total madness, but that’s ok for Lara. Blowing a building just to craft a shortcut is one of thos crazy reckless moments, specially abundant in TR2 that I really like.
I remember a grey november day in 1996 when a schoolmate gave me a copy of this game. I struggled a bit with the first level because I didn´t know what to do and how the game worked. I ulitmately fell in love with this game when the violins started to play in the venice level! I have played all the TR-Games since then but this is still my favourite game. Thank you very much for these lovely made playthroughs.

I'm very interested in home decor myself and its always been my dream to have the coolest jungle living room. I love to read with my favorite show in the background. Ideally I want the living room to have tons of plants, a fish tank, definitely cats, and maybe even a parrot. It's probably gonna be humid as heck in there but I don't mind the heat.
Between this and Nightdive Studios games like Quake II Remastered, Powerslave Remastered, Turok 3 Remastered and the recently released Stalker Trilogy I'm having a great time playing old games.

I love listening to you talking about having an own library so much, because I’m a librarian. When I was at university, I too dreamed of a spare room to set up some kind of little library and as my husband reads way too many books, I guess we have a solid foundation for it. But now I never find the time to sort everything, also I never learnt how to categorise non-scientific books properly, as I have always only worked in scientific libraries. So I let my husband keep his own system. He’s happy with his giant and barely sorted book shelf 😅

when it comes to lemon trees i took the seed fomr oridinary lemon and now i have a little (literally) tree in my pot. I don't think it will be huge but qute little tree is ok. It's also easy to take care of.

This level looks so good in the remaster! It's my favourite in the Venice section. Actually all three Venice levels look beautiful.

17:00 - There is something about the room. For me, I think it kind of reminds me of a haunted Southern American (think Louisiana) mansion. The colors of the sunset on the room looked amazing. I spent a while in the room and it's adjoining room taking screenshots!
24:40 - One of my all time favorite Tomb Raider tracks. "Vertigo"... sometimes (mistakenly?) called "Cradle to Grave". Gives me goosebumps! I'm assuming its called "Vertigo" because it plays when you're high up on the Chandelier, but I actually like the other name a bit more as it has a kind of... mournful element to it.
Speaking of Chandeliers, can't wait to see your reaction to the one in Opera House! I had to stop and take screenshots of it.
28:20 - I got so lost in this section because I somehow managed to completely miss that stupid lever. I spent 20-30 minutes wandering all over that section of the mansion and the surrounding areas! Facepalmed when I finally found that lever...
38:01 - *cough* fixed in the EGS version. Paintings in TR 1 also *cough*.
41:06 - So it IS a haunted mansion!

Oh I’d never heard of the other name for that track “Cradle to Grave”, it is very haunting! Vertigo for sure came from that you’re climbing so high up when it plays, but the other name suits it a bit better ❤️

Regarding the state of the mansion, I guess upkeep isn't really a priority when your long-term plans centre on metamorphosing into a dragon too big to fit into most of the rooms.
20:21 Taking the buggy shortcut would also mean missing the gold secret, as the library door would remain locked, so there'd be no way of accessing the flooded cellars.
28:43 Nothing wrong with chattiness. A big part of what makes me prefer some Let's Players over others is their personality.

Venice and china yes but platform maria doria and partially Tibet are obviously not finished and not improved. Update in few weeks tho so there will be a reason to replay those games yet again. 😅

23:52 This large room is of course another major highlight. The many switches. The chandeliers. Beautiful jump & run inserts at the end of which you can adjust the height of the chandeliers. Lots of pretty, beautiful new elements that make TR2 a more interesting, varied game than the still positive outstanding TR1. The lighting is in the rem. Much nicer than the original and the chandeliers themselves also look fantastic and far less angular.

I actually found the fence glitch and fell down so restarted from the save as like you I wanted to play the level.

I always know TR 2 must be remaked, ( cos Venice is best level ) but this remaster is not better then original -_- ..only 2 things is good = 1.guiMenu 2. wood textures..all other is big fail ( especially windows glass on Venice ) graphic no have that crispness, air, and sharpness like on original tb2..all is somehow toooo blury...Venice still need better remaster.
I totally respect your thoughts on this, and the original is an absolute classic for a reason! It’s amazing 😍 But I do think they did a nice job with this remaster, and that Venice in particular is beautiful 🥰 But I would be interested to see a Nicobass-type remake of the level 😃
