    Shame you did not hear the live version but hopefully there will be another Porcupine Tree reaction that you can see them live. Their studio work is amazing as you would expect from a band led by the guy that is the go to dude for all the 70s and 80s prog bands who want their albums refreshing in digital format, but the live performances add just that extra sprinkling of pixie dust that makes them magical. ‘Anesthetize’ and ‘Arriving somewhere but not here’ are long but two of the best progressive rock tracks of any era.(both are live on YT)

  • @mikemicrael5749
    @mikemicrael5749 ปีที่แล้ว +30

    "Fear of a Blank Planet" is a fantastic concept album that should be heard in its entirety. Gavin Harrison's drumming on the live version of "Anesthetize" will blow your mind. Steven Wilson, the genius behind Porcupine Tree, has an interesting solo catalog along with many collaborative projects, and he has remastered many great progressive albums in recent years. Steven's cover of Alanis Morissette's "Thank U" is also an amazing performance. I love your reactions to progressive rock!

    When i first listened to Porcupine Tree it came about from listening to a lot of psychedelic rock in the late mid to late 80's, and the early music really did have that feel, i only just descaled them again a few years back and still slowly going through their catalog which is way more progressive rock now. but totally amazing. i could not even start to say what to listen to next.

    PT is one of the most amazing bands! Watch the Anesthetized song live in Tilburg. FIRST CLASS !! THEY ARE AS GOOD LIVE AS THEY ARE IN THE STUDIO .Gavin Harrison the drummer is rated right up there with Danny Carey! The Hate Song live shows off his drumming finesse!

    So many great songs by Porcupine Tree. I would suggest listening to the album trio "In Absentia" (2002), "Deadwing" (2005) and "Fear of a Blank Planet" (2007). The live video from 2010, "Anesthetize" is also fantastic! Songs: "Trains", "Deadwing", "Arriving Somewhere but not Here", "Halo", "Fear of a Blank Planet" and of course "Anesthetize". Enjoy, looking forward to reactions 😃

    Incredible band, especially live. They have a deep catalog of awesome music. The main creative force here is Steven Wilson who also has a brilliant solo career and several side projects. All of it is worth exploring. Lots of crossover with Tool and Opeth fans. You really can't go wrong with any of PT's music. When there's a choice always take the live versions. Best live band I've ever had the pleasure of seeing, hands down.

    I love Tool, Radiohead, and Porcupine Tree sort of marries aspects of both of them. Steven Wilson, the vocalist/song writer and producer is a genius to put it simply. The album this song is off, Fear of a Blank Planet is a masterpiece. Their more defined and popular sound sort of starts in the late 90s and especially when they got their godlike drummer Gavin Harrison in 2001
    I know others have already said it, but this video was just an edit of the studio version, and heavily compresses the audio. Its normally quite a spacious and wide song, with help from Robert Fripp of King Crimson fame helping on sound design. Got to see then live last year and this song among all others was truly something awesome

  • @JasonPeltier
    @JasonPeltier ปีที่แล้ว +3

    If you ever want to do a long reaction, check out 'Arriving Somewhere, But Not Here' by Porcupine Tree. That single song is like a whole album with all the changes and emotions.
    PT is right up there with Tool for me. So innovative and every member is at the top of their field.
    On a tangent, Gavin the drummer is also in King Crimson, which has 3 drummers. He's the master of ghost notes, those extra little hits you hear outside of the regular quarter and eighth notes.
    They have an amazing discography and you've just entered another rabbit hole. :)

  • @jamesaichholz9696
    @jamesaichholz9696 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hearing Dark eye tango by Al Dimeola gives me goose bumps still sometimes after all these years with incredible runs he plays as song builds to crescendo. It's an instrumental that starts out kind of dreamy and mystical feeling and by end of it full tilt mode on high! Definitely one of my favorite songs of all time by a truly amazing guitarist.
    I was 15 first time I ever heard Johnny Winter and was instantly floored.I was saying to myself Damn who is this?I've got to hear more of this stuff. I could write you quite at extensive essay on it but am going to wrap this up by encouraging you to listen to a song by Johnny that I think has most awesome slide guitar solo on it that I think I've ever heard.I think that if someone can hear that and not be moved in some way they need to check and see if they still have a pulse.I saw him do that song live once and it had to be at least 8 min. version in which the rest of the band left the stage leaving him sitting on stool with single spotlight trained on him. He had no peers when it came to playing slide.

    Prog. Rock is some of the best music to really dissect and listen to because its often so complex and interesting. Bands like Rush, Dream Theater, Queensryche, Tool, Porcupine Tree all have a lot of dimensions to their songs, layers. They are never formulaic and that is what makes them great.

I think we might got along tremendously. Along those notes, you should watch the official video and listen to: Flower Face singing Pisces Moon, and also Another Life (no official video to this one). It's just that this version is short and cut to be fit into a video. But the live DVD version or even the album version is a bit long and does justice to this song. The context of this song is haunting. Train tracks. Two girls. Suicide pact.

    • @quinndavis
      @quinndavis ปีที่แล้ว

      And one of the girls, the one described, her favorite song, according to her, was “Darkest Eyes.” He mentions iPod b/c it was what she was listening to their song on. Train track deaths are brutal. The band reached out how they knew to do. You can even tell it’s a painful song. I’ve never heard them say they enjoy this song. They don’t want celebration tagged on the artwork. It’s an ode, not ballad. It’s sad. Great but nothing more in the end. They died.

  • @mikecooper7755
    @mikecooper7755 ปีที่แล้ว

    This song is so good. But in classic steven wilson fashion, so sad. It's written about a ture event where 2 young girls, one of whom started PTs MySpace page that had a suicide pact. They jumped in front of an Amtrack train in Wisconsin. One was reportedly listening to PT on her iPod when they jumped

  • @darenthorpe7499
    @darenthorpe7499 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    This is an short edit. The album version is longer and better in my opinion. There are SO many good PT songs - Perhaps try checking the clever lyrical links between Signify and Anaesthetise (sorry, I'm English....and being a copyeditor, I'm compelled to spell it this way!) on the Fear of a Blank Planet album and and Normal on the Nil Recurring EP. Stephen's lyrics bring PT's beautiful and highly crafted music to another level (in my humble opinion).

    You should improve your audio output. Could be way better. Figure it out. Will improve your vids ten fold.

      Then live Porcupine Tree is your cup of tea. Whatever your favorite kind of tea is, live PT is just that.
