    Some helpful tips;
    Healing items and magic are pretty obvious, but what may not be is how many it heals. 1人 heals 1 ally, and 全 heals the whole party.
    Monsters do not drop money, but they will drop loot, which you can sell at the Hunter's Guild.
    Keep Raijin healthy, if he gets KO'd, it's game over.
    You can revive characters with the rare カムカムバク item or the ソウルマン magic.
    Most bad statuses will go away after battle or a couple minutes later, but a nasty one to watch out for on disc 2 is illness. This is like poison, but also affects your TP, and infects other party members. You can remove this with シソジン or the spells クリーンマン or ミナクリーン.
    HP and TP get refilled when you level up.
    When you get to Alaska, do not try to fight enemies at night. The Flare Foxes you encounter at night cannot be defeated until you get another party member.
    When you get to the top of Candy Tower, you'll be asked a question. Make sure to select the second option, otherwise you'll be forced to face a boss one-on-one.
    When you get to the final city in the game, be sure to enter the house just to the right of the walkway. There is a person inside that will give you free Better Pills every time you speak to her. Free healing FTW!
    You can play this game on a North American Saturn if your console is region-modded.
    If you fight enough of certain types of monsters, you'll get medals at the Hunter's Guild, which will boost certain stats.

      I think I may try to do something like this for other import reviews too. My knowledge of the language isn't the greatest, but I can at least help out with a few things here and there.
      On a side note, do you have a Twitter account? If you wanted to send me a private message it would be easier there.

      I'm no expert on Japanese, but I know enough to get by in some games. Plus I did watch a translation livestream after beating the game.

    Been waiting for this one. Missed your reviews. This game returns the cost to value factor 30 times over. Visually stunning, high quality sound, & a very enjoyable game flow. Took minutes to get sucked in. That's exactly what I look for in my games. Thank you for the recommendation & your video, as always. Also agree 200% with you on your opinions on this diamond.

      I figured you'd like this one. This is definitely one of those games that exceeded my expectations. I knew it would be good, but didn't think it would become my favorite Saturn RPG.

      I didn't get any footage of it, but there is even a Megazord-like sequence about 10 to 15 hours into the game.

    I really like the animated cutscenes. I've never really gotten to check out any Sega Saturn games at all. Looks very fun and pretty interesting. 2:15 ... uuuuuhhhh. lol The battles look very nice, even if it is easy as you said. That book part looks like Paper Mario. Really nice review on a game i'd never heard of or seen!

      Nice how I threw that in right after talking about how serious the story can be lol. The story book dungeon is really cool, I love it when RPGs do weird things like that.

    Really nice to see how much you've progressed in learning the language, been wanting to play this and Wachenroder for ages. Apparently a translation of this was begun but abandoned years ago.

    • @BawesomeBurf
      @BawesomeBurf  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      That seems to be a common thing with translations. I remember waiting years for the Xenosaga I+II translation to be finished, but the person just stopped working on it.
      Might be starting on Wachenroder soon. Played about a half hour of it after you sent it to me, and it seems like a great game. Really good music too.

    Very good review, I agree with what you said. I finished this RPG two weeks ago and I loved it ! One of the best J-RPG I played !
    I just have to warn the players about one very big issue : DON'T PLAY the Saturn version on emulator ! I tried to play this game with uoYabause, but I was stuck inside a saloon in Tombstone because of a freeze. I had to play again this game since the very beginning with another emulator (SSF), but the game freezes in the exact same place in Tombstone !
    So, I had to play again this game once more since the beginning, but with the PSP version on PPSSPP emulator : this time it worked. I could finish this game . The PSP version is a little longer (2 ou 3 hours longer, there are new quests for Zengo and Ace).
    And to complete the useful BawesomeBurf's tips :
    - during the "Challenge the trap ! in USA ! ", you have to listen the robot which gives you the direction to follow on the "chessboard room" : "ue" means "up", "hidari" means "left", "migi" means "right" and "shita" means "down".
    - near the end of the game, you will confront the classical J-RPG's boss that you can't beat the first time because the heroes are not enough powerful. Later in the game you have to challenge again this boss which becomes "untouchable" after a while. So to be able to hit the boss, you have to use a special item on him : normally it is the very last item on your list.
    - there is also a nearly impossible room to pass in Atlanta city if we don't speak Japanese : it concerns a certain pillar to touch. Fortunately, it is well explained in Gamefaqs.
    I hope, some day, this game will be translated by fans.

    • @BawesomeBurf
      @BawesomeBurf  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh yeah, completely forgot about that trap part in Tahoe. Thanks for adding some helpful tips. Hopefully it encourages more people to try the game.

    Great review! Although I know nothing about japanese I recognize that wolf voice actor from the Hunter X Hunter anime he was one of the quimera ants and probably more characters

    • @BawesomeBurf
      @BawesomeBurf  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Forgot which one it was, but I guess one of the voice actors still does voice work for animes.

    • @pepelemacho
      @pepelemacho 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      BawesomeBurf I looked it up and this game shares 3 male voice actors with Hunter X Hunter: Koichi Yamadera, Kazuki Yao and Kappei Yamaguchi. And they were most likely in many other animes too. I mean who really cares but I'm glad my ear was right lol

    • @Rudolphhhhhh
      @Rudolphhhhhh 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was waiting for a translation for more than 10 years. But one or two years ago, I lost my patience, so I played the entire game without knowing Japanese. And since I finished this game (one of the best RPG I played in my life, and I finished more than one hundred RPGs), I am now learning Japanese, daily (and all by myself), for one purpose : never, never, never been stopped again by language barrier when I play video games, because I was sick and tired of depending on other people to get an unofficial translation (I prefer beeing independent and solving the problem of Japanese language for good). :-)

    Wouldn’t the Saturn Region Patcher be a work around for this? Just patch the game to your console’s region, right?

    • @BawesomeBurf
      @BawesomeBurf  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's a great question, although I am not familiar with the Patcher myself. If it patches the actual game rather than putting the console into another region like the Action Replay does, I think it should work.

  • @SegaCDUniverse

    Wait wait! I used this with my action replay, it won't go past disc 1?!

    • @BawesomeBurf
      @BawesomeBurf  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sadly no. There is no save prompt at the end of disc 1 like some other games, and when you insert disc 2, it tells you the disc is not Tengai Makyou. Of course, this isn't a problem if your system is region-modded, which I probably should have mentioned in the video.

    • @BawesomeBurf
      @BawesomeBurf  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Grandia definitely has much better combat, but I thought Tengai Makyou was better in every other category. But I do love both games, and especially love Grandia 2.

    • @joeymayo4757
      @joeymayo4757 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Grandia...? What’re you talking about..? Grandia is a good game. But it isn’t one of the best Saturn RPGs. It’s probably top 20 RPG on the console. ...you do realize that Saturn was the king of RPGs besides PSX....right..? It was the most prolific console for RPGs besides PSX. There are well over 100 RPG titles for Saturn....
