Is there anything similar to bunkai in taekwondo? This techniques require that.

Kata, isn't real defense, it's corrugated dance. Theory doesn't hold up well when a real boxer knocks your ass out and your pajamas and colored belts provide nothing but false assurance you can still get your ass kicked. Americans have been suckers for decades and think a certain colored belt is accomplishment yet hardly ever practice teal combat. Send most black belt holders to Army or Marine hand to hand full contact training and THIER skills are worthless. I've seen green berets who moved so fast a blink was slow in comparison. Literally a former 7thbgroup member out in the guard returned to full active duty iandceas standing next to me at attention with a cheek full of chew and a puddle of spit on the asphalt in front of him. The drill at processing at girl scout camp in Jackson, gets in his face screaming and yelling to cleaning up. I didn't blink uen that drill instructor was taken down, swirled in the puddle and stood back up. Never had to fight from laughing so hard in my life.

And you entirely miss the point. Yes, soldiers are taught to fight and kill. Martial artists are trained to be better and more disciplined individuals than they were and to avoid fighting / killing when ever possible. I train with ex Marines and Commandos (UK) they get it. An open mind never killed anyone.
