    📍QUESTION: Do you revisit locations often?

    • @ejorbe
      @ejorbe ปีที่แล้ว +2

      All the time because something is always different

    • @ddki9094
      @ddki9094 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes. The pandemic sort-of forced me to revisit my local areas/parks and it was great for my growth in landscape photography. Doing this forced me to look for less obvious compositions that many people would just walk past. Trying to photograph popular spots has become more difficult anyways so for me it is what I like to do. I really like your photos in this video because it is a woodland that is similar to what I have in my area to photograph..it is challenging, kind of chaotic but always fun to spend time in.

    • @jamesvooghtphotography
      @jamesvooghtphotography ปีที่แล้ว +1

      All the time. Any time I can re-imagine or even redo a composition to improve upon my previous attempt. I like seeing the progress I have made in my skills doing that.

      Yes, especially local areas, the season and the different lighting conditions have a huge impact. Some of my personal projects have been to photograph the same composition once a month for a year.

    I read something long ago about an exercise where you pick and object, stand some distance away and take a photo of it, walk a few steps closer and take another. Then, do the same, but on your knees and then finally on your stomach. Once at the object shoot directly up or down accordingly.

    Gotta agree with you... the Blue Ridge Parkway, (the narrowest national park in the US), is my all time favorite place to hike and take landscapes. I'm fortunate enough to be close enough that a day trip works. This location is a dandy. Well done.

    Mark, as the image appeared on screen with that great lighting, I gasped with excitement, as it was truly excellent light. How it added depth to an otherwise somewhat flat light was breathtaking. I love the composition as others have said. Great video as usual. Thanks for sharing this. Ed.👍

    Great point in your opening statement. You’re right, it’s about you and your experience and unless you specifically ask your viewers for feedback, then we should just take whatever we can from your time and effort to make these Videos. I don’t think some people realise just how much effort a TH-cam video takes to produce?! Someone always knows best eh?!?! Thanks for another great Video!

    Wow! That 3rd image is incredible! That light is spot on. Many times we hear of eliminating distractions and not putting too much in the frame. However, I love everything about this image. I know there's a lot going on but it makes you look at the image twice. If you can make the viewer look at your image twice. You have succeeded in an aspect I believe us photographers want. Thank you for sharing your awesome content with us!

    Great video! I’ve always wondered if TH-camrs have those awkward moments when others come along to find them talking to their camera in the woods. 😃 Also, thanks for leaving the images on screen for us to look at while you talked about them. It’s helpful to have more time to take them in. Beautiful photos in great conditions!

    Your presentation is particularly enjoyable. Even now in very old age I still prefer the flexibility that a hand held camera gives to seeing things as never before. It is a way of responding more spontaneously to what is going on in one's mind as well as what is being presented to it. As with every other way of doing things, sometimes it goes awry and has its own limitations, in particular shutter speed! Of all the photography videos on TH-cam I like best yours and Mads Iverson's apart from those about post processing in my choice of software. Most of them I avoid!

    Definitely, especially around my local areas, the C&O has tons of locks to visit and revisit especially in different seasons. There can be a downside though if you’re not in a good photograph state of mind. I’ve been fortunate to visit Iceland over 5 times. I hit the limit and wouldn’t revisit..for awhile at least. Of course. I have my favorite woodland where I go when there is chance of fog (which unfortuantely is not very often). I also try go back to locations I like in different times of the year because it always looks different. I think, one of the best things you can do is to go back often to a location. I'm always surprised how often I get new and better photos of the same location.

    I find that I do revisit the same locations for my photography. I try to find different compositions and subjects. And the season changes provide a different look for things, subjects I have already photographed in the past. I am not able to travel a lot out of my home region, so I don't have that advantage to see new areas for my photography. So I do the best I can with the areas I do have access to and experiment with different techniques and compositions.

    My favorite place is Shenandoah NP, particularly the central district which is the higher elevation on Skyline Drive.
    True story. My dental hygienist asked me where I went on vacation. I said Shenandoah NP. She went on a rant about how Skyline Drive was so foggy and why would anyone want to go there. Never realized she was even in a national park. I kept my thoughts to myself probably a good idea with her poking around my mouth. I’ve grown to love the fog and hope for those conditions when going there.

    Yeah I love this video Mark it just makes a good point. I also teach Photography at a community level and getting people started, and I often say to people do something different now some of that different might not work, but that's okay. What it does do is it starts to make your images look different to everybody else's if you just take photos from a height you end up look like a mobile phone photographer and no disrespect to the mobile phone fraternity. That's not what we want to shoot. I've recently been exploring more moody images with dark atones and so forth as well. I recently posted an image that received almost 6000 likes on one particular photography page. It blew my mind and initially when I looked at it I didn't think it was a great image but I have since learnt that what other people think about an image on what we think about can be very different. So my thinking is to just try things and they will work some of them. Some of them won't work. There are a lot of composition rules to have in your head when you composing a photo but sometimes I think you can actually just overburden yourself with too many rules, and I like to shoot with feel while maintaining some semblance of what I'm trying to do and that can be difficult. It's really funny because I've never really wanted to photograph Woodland areas until I started seeing your videos. I live in Australia and in my area. There are some wooded areas as well that I'm going to explore this weekend to see what I can find and he's coming into autumn, so there should be some beautiful colours about. Thank you for the tips as always.

    Mark, I think you missed a trick with that first tree in those conditions. I think you should have photographed it again - same composition - and I think it would have looked amazing. It’s true, I wasn’t there and didn’t see what you saw, but from the video, it looked like it was worth photographing and would have given you a different, but just as compelling, image as when you first photographed it.
