My wife is Chinese and we live in Texas. At first she covered up until she decided it was to hot and started dressing down. She also noticed that Texas women showed a lot of skin and embraced tanning, so she decided to follow suit and began spending time in the sun. She also likes to swim, so she began wearing skimpy bikinis and increasing her tan. Now she's so dark, people ask me if she's Native American

When I visited China the compliment I received most often was "my face has symmetry". I had never heard this before. Maybe it is what Chinese say if you are ugly 🤔.
My experience was Chengdu and Xian had the most friendly people. Beijing I experienced many scammers, but also many people who would help a lost foreigner. In Shenzhen I was nothing special which was nice after being the center of attention elsewhere.
In every city I visited in China, taxi drivers were the most pleasant I have experienced in the whole world. Down to earth good people.

I definitely see your point Jo. Media has done some damage worldwide to go along with its praises. In Johannesburg Africa, there is still a pandemic of young women who are suffering from using bleach-based skin lightening creams and products that are giving short and long-term health effects including cancers. So with all fairness, the Asian woman does not deserve to be the only lady singled out.. this is why I push for the new standard of every race deserves the same respect from beginning to end.

My girlfriend in University was from Seoul, well-educated, bi-lingual, and wealthy. Even though she was basically “perfect,” she felt insecure because she was naturally darker than her friends in SK. Personally, I thought she looked hotter and more dramatic with tan skin. I haven’t talked with her but since tan skin is en vogue she probably feels more confident. 😂🎉

It sounds like you’re becoming more Australian Jo, and me the Australian is more Chinese. I’ve been in China almost 10 years, and I’m using my collection of sun umbrellas more than the Chinese! Sometimes in summer it gets so hot and glary in China, that I can’t be without them. As for getting special privileges for being a white person, it doesn’t really seem to be the case in Beijing; yesterday my good (white) English friend and his Asian wife left China forever because he wasn’t getting the friendly treatment and respect that he felt he deserved. It takes a long time here to break in with the locals. I feel parts of China are more welcoming to foreigners.

You definitely make good points. And I understand you're just telling the world how certain Chinese people see the world. I believe it's fair to say there's many Chinese who are very racist. When your preference race of a person that is racist.
I'm African American, I've traveled to Asia countries quite a bit including Hong Kong. I really never had a problem dating in Hong Kong. But what bothered me about Hong Kong, was the self-hate there. Plenty of beauty darker complected Asian women. Who were using whitening cream. To make their self attractive to the Chinese men. That in my opinion was pretty appalling.

I am an American that at 77 have spent nearly half my life in Asia working and living. Naturally I have taken the time to learn the languages in Thailand and Indonesia enough to communicate on a basic level. The one thing I have noticed especially the women is to have a white complexion. This became obvious when going to the beach and seeing the women wearing long sleeve shirts and jeans while in the water. Naturally all the stores sell skin lightening creams and today I see the creams for both men and women.
I will have to admit I prefer a Asian woman with light skin and long black hair.
From an Asian woman's perspective especially in Thailand many Thai women prefer the American or European man mainly because they make better husbands since once married they stay true to their wives and take better care of their families and naturally they usually have more money. Also I have often heard that Asian women want to have a half Asian child.
My wife of 25 years is Chinese Thai. We have a 17 year old son who is 6 foot tall and is always getting compliments from all that see him. Naturally my wife is very proud of him and loves taking him out in public. My wife is a medical professional and a division manager with a large Healthcare corporation, with a Master's Degree from an American university. She often tells me that many of the Thai women she works with ask her about finding a American or European husband.

With that said I want to make one thing clear: Feminin is not the same as submessiv. I think you are also an attractive young lady and i get your point; You live with a person, not an apperance (however, it took me quite some time to get to that conclution, but as it is said; With age there is wisdom (in some cases)).

The super white skin thing is strange, as a man I can appreciate it, but there is just something about a bikini Tan line, that white skin where the Sun never shines, and a beautiful tan right next to it. I have a very good example.....
When I was a young man in Dallas, my friends would go to topless clubs and sometimes I would go with them, women who tanned butt naked, they did not make as many tips as the women who had a good tan and white breast, and backside, there is just something about the contrast.

Good Morning Jo. It's a little unfortunate how the World Views color and Power. The old world order is naggingly annoying. But the new world order that humanitarians are building is to provide the same respect for every race on the planet. I used to drive a coach bus for Ohio State University in 2010 and I was a bus driver for a program called "The Foreign Exchange Student" and we all lived on campus and I remember Loving the culture shock when I first saw the women using umbrellas 🌂 in the summer. Is it safe to say that most Asian women are against tanning?

Good morning or evening to you William? I think most Chinese women still prefer having a fair skin, due to the influence of Chinese culture, aesthetics, and medias. For me I just simply don’t want to get sunburnt or have freckles:)) I don’t mind a tan. I’m not sure about other parts of Asia, probably southeast ladies are fine with a tanned skin? Waiting for someone to reply here.

It’s important as an individual to recognize that your so called preferences and prejudices may not truly be your own. It is possible that what you call preferences have been conditioned into you. Beginning at childhood. Then Reinforce by The media, religion, cultural traditions and Family pressures. Unfortunately we cannot evolve from negative conditioning as a group. Like most spiritual growth,, it is an individual journey. So it takes individuals to be more curious And have the courage to challenge their conditioning and narrowminded belief systems from childhood. My hope is that people challenge their conditioning (on multiple subjects. Including relationship dynamics) and open their minds. To broaden the beauty standards. Giving them the ability to appreciate how beautiful other cultures and (so-called races),, ‘people‘ truly are. Not only for their physical beauty. But for their intellect, their minds, their hearts, the love that shines from each of us.

  • @niropaxum958

The western foreigner was not always a popular look, it's all structured in a sort of mentality. Before the any war westerners were seen as inferior. This is also true for Japan since they mostly interacted with sailors and missionaries, the Westerner was seen as a barbaric and religious crazy people who came from god knows where. One missionary wanted really to show Rome too Nobunaga to break this stigma.
With time this changed. The Western look came along with a personal brand, education, higher civilisation, and manny asians were quick to adapt systems that came along with the west. In Chinas case it was more soviet influenced.
So culturally the west became a part of Asia, but the west was also influenced in both small and big ways.
Then we have the fair skin which was always a beauty standard in a lots of Asian places, long before any western interaction (it was also in the west under a small period) So a perfect storm of the fixing of the western image the coincidental beauty standard and then the last one being western media.
Thats how we went from drunk bearded strange looking barbarians to somewhat desirable people. But this is all a revolving and changing thing, Koreans have gotten very popular with the dramas and Kpop and manhwa. This has a effect on all asians.
Any way outside of all of this, I have seen lots of good looking asian dudes with low confidence in the west, which is strange and something that I can never understand.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, also making the subject very amusing too👍, there is a Darkside about it too, in the western, eg US, Can, Aus many parts of Europe, majority of people, have noticed people treat /view them with a bias on Asian, I believe there a hierarchy, 1) Japanese,2) Sth Korean and fairly highly regarded and treated better, then 3)Taiwanese/ Singaporeans, 4)Mainlanders Chinese( big city people), falling back the se Asian groups like VN, Malay, indo, filo aren't treated so nicely initially when encounter ( in china possible dark skin is related to work in farming/field but in some case they are Austro -nesian people ) or they have media portray of them as brides/domestic workers/low paid or even poor illegals, maybe the 3rd world country is poorer slum cond. they have to kind of proof themselves more often then the top listed country, also at the airport they check these flight entering more then the others, because many bring in bad things, eg food and meat product or exotic animals good ( monkey brain, tiger pencil, bird nest, and home grown veggies etc...) I pretty much agree with your summary about defining beauty. It is literally in the mind of the beholder. The idea of looking deep into a person's personality rather than just looking at their physical appearance seems to me to be a mark of maturity. one question for you. What did the fact that your friend was Jewish (not Jew) have to do with his not being able to find a woman in Australia? I just wondered why you thought that was relevant.

I love your video and as a black person I think I am the best person to comment. Asians haven't embraced themselves yet. You would think that black people who are actually dark skinned and have been (and continue to be - somehow I have personally never experienced it) subject to discrimination would worry about skin tone but nope they are comfortable in their skin. The greatest threat to the human race is not the media but stupidity. There are a lot of stupid people in this world and the much homogenous society tend to be collectively stupid as well. What Asians lack is their own definition of beauty which neither looks to white nor Indian nor black. Asians have not embraced themselves. They are not comfortable being themselves. The media might play a role here but I grew up in a majority black society with white media everywhere and not once have I thought mhm maybe if I was white I would rock this t-shirt more? It simply doesn't happen because every other ethnicity has embraced themselves except asians. In my society, money matters more. People respect you for being rich and educated. Skin? Maybe but it hasn't stopped me from enjoying what white people enjoy. I'm gonna visit China soon as a black man and I could care less what people think because there's always that one person that's not bigoted and that one person is worth the whole trip!

So, I live in China and have been here for five and a half years. I met the Chinese lady I am now married to on the first day of my teaching job here. We got together a year later. Married with a crazy son. I live in a Tier One city, and the places I frequent are well used to seeing foreigners out on the streets. Nobody really pays me any attention, which is great, because that's the last thing I want. I can understand the stigma towards foreign men here, as I've witnessed guys who are in relationships happily go and cheat on their girlfriends. I've also witnessed Chinese men doing the same. So, the idea that it's only white guys who fool around is demonstrably wrong. Another weird thing, is people who say foreigners in China come here because they can't get women back home. That's a weird one, as I had plenty of relationships back home, and was even engaged at one point. People come here for many different reasons. Mine was a love of history, and where better to go than a country with thousands of years of it. I just wish I could learn the lingo, because I suck at trying to pronounce tones.

It's great you love living in a communist country. I hope you never have to deal with the CCP and end up in a forced labor camp.
