RideTech is coming out with an IRS designed especially for the Fox Mustang. It's going to take an S550 differential and knuckles/hubs, with tubular control arms and a near stock track width. That will force down the price of the Cobra IRS assemblies and eventually relegate that swap to SN-95 and New Edge cars. Save your pennies.
It will be interesting. The S550 IRS is considerably wider than the 99-04. It will be interesting to see how they mitigate that. Most likely with shorter axles. I like their front-end kit that they sell currently.
@@trentawilliams Yes, the half shafts will be shorter to more closely match the Fox track width. They've got a development car that's been driving around for the last year or so.
@@trentawilliams they're always a work in progress, my current project is a 93 that I'm finishing off getting everything for a 5 lug swap. Plan on doing the irs swap in this one as well, just not in the budget right at the moment.
I have them now. I finally got them installed a few weeks after this video was filmed. With the IRS, Strut tower bar, and subframe connectors the car feels so much better.
August 1987 to March 1990 I had a 5.0 4 speed Pace Car which the first owner raced in the SCCA showroom stock class A in 1980 and 1981. I believe that by the time I got it its rear suspension bushings were worn out. Going through a turn and hitting a bump or pothole the rear axle would make the rear of the car jump sideways. If I dropped the clutch at too high of an RPM the rear axle would just go up and down and the car would not go forward. Wish I could afford another Foxbody now, prices too high for me.
Whats the mod for the driveshaft? Did u use the foxbody shaft or the cobra shaft? And if u used the foxbody shaft, did u just need to swap out the yoke to a 03 cobra one? Nice ride!!!!!
Hey man. Im about to do this to my fox. Wish me luck! What springs/shocks did you use? Could i reuse my fox ones? I see brake lines are to do before the subframe anything else?
You can’t reuse the fox ones. I just used the factory 01 Motorcraft shocks and Eibach springs. Other than the brake lines, everything should be okay. Do a fuel filter if you’d like to as well lol
Stock 01 Cobra shocks and I think eibach springs. They were already in the IRS. Mainly just removed fuel tank to make it easier to move around under the car.
Why did you say you could, "Feel every little bump with it?" Shouldn't the IRS be better on bumps than the stick axle? What springs did you put on the rear? What's on the front?
Front are cut springs. Rear are Eibach’s for a Cobra. I’m sure with the proper spring rate it won’t be like that. I’m going to do coilovers front and rear soon
Trent, I just did the IRS too and am stuck at the rear springs for now. What year cobra springs did you get? They have different ones for the 99-01 and the 03-04 . I tried the H&R springs for a cobra and they are too hard
had a friend that was selling one. I sort of lucked up. If youre interested in getting one, I would recommend buying a 99/01. They are considerably cheaper than 03/04. However, the 99's have some issues. Your best bang for your buck is an 01. @@ELBOHOS
I am debating between doing what you just said or just building an irs for my 96 cobra, I really want a more aggressive looking rear end tho, and the irs suspension does just that plus increases comfort, but I feel like I’ll like the panhard bar and torque arm bar set up more just because I really want to have that go-kart feel with the stiffer suspension
Those SN95 tribar wheels look fantastic on your LX! Very nice Fox.🐺👍
I was going to say as I was looking at the thumbnail the tribars look pretty good

This thing has got to be a beast in the corners
Awesome job, really appreciate the detail you went into with this swap.
Did a great job man, looks great. Fitment with those wheels is damn near perfect as well. Enjoy it, i know i would.
I appreciate it. I’m happy with the fitment. I wish I could lower it a little more. The front needs some work but the back is decent

I cant wait to get my 03 Cobra irs installed into my 87 foxbody mustang..🎉
Nice work and I like what you did with that bracket.
Time for some FL MM subframe connectors

I appreciate it man. Tried to make a real informative piece.

Great work looks amazing
What would it be like all wheel drive
Thats pretty slick
That is incredibly cool!
Cool video thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!
Did you run any studs vertically through the frame rail? Ive seen a handful of people do that
Yes I forgot to mention that in the video. I ran two on each side.
I enjoy Your Dream ! How does it handle the back roads ? Thank You for Sharing Your Dream ! 🇺🇸🇵🇷🦊👍
It does quite well!
That came out nice! Is that a throw out bearing I hear?
Sadly lol

What was the part number for the irs brake line kit?
I can’t tell you exactly as I’m away from my computer. If you click on that Facebook link, the parts list is pinned in that group.
What size spacer did you run on rears to get those sn95 17 x 8 s to align with outside wheel arch
Did you not watch the video? No spacer
@@trentawilliams rotors shot seen. Guess must missed bolt up of wheels.
The cobra irs is the same width as a fox rear axle
That’s why most wheels won’t fit a cobra without spacers
cobra irs is 2.5" wider than the fox track width@@michaelmayer8618
how much are the irs units going for thees days?
I paid $850 for mine. Just depends on what year and if they have been rebuilt or not. Fully refreshed 03/04 ones are upwards of 3-4k
Great video Trent but you need to run thru the gears once at the end.... Come on dude you left us hangin😊
I plan on putting together a driving video sometime soon

Should have left the live axle put torque arn panhard bar and coilovers and call it aday and reinforce the torque boxes.

If I wanted to I would’ve. I just wanted an IRS
There is a reason that modern mustangs Camaros and challenger's all went to irs!
Only good for road raceing other then dat they are garbage
And irs has nutting to do with wheel stance
