Carolyn O’Quinn brought up a great question and I wanted to answer it: She asked doesn’t the 101 Dalmatians stuff remind me of him: It actually represents that I was strong enough to survive his abuse. So I have internalized the 101 Dalmatians stuff as my physical trophy to remind myself that I am one strong woman who beat HIS verbal assaults, HIS physical hits. He may have beaten me but he didn’t break me. That’s why those emotional threads are woven so tightly together. Even today I still feel those emotions deeply inside me, it still gives me strength when I remember the abuse. So as I work through those emotions and tell that 16 year old girl inside of me that she is beautiful, she is strong, she is worthy without him AND the stuff….for just being my true authentic self: that’s when I’ll be free to let it go without deep panic ❤️🙏🏻❤️
Beautifully said. Have you invited your husband into that healing part of your life? In my personal experience with that my husband has played such an instrumental role in my healing. Involving him and just talking things through with him had been amazing. Especially because he treasures me and loves me in a way this other person was incapable of doing. Because it wasn't about how I was... it was about him (the other guy). And the one word that completely transformed my thinking was when my husband called him a "coward" because that's what he was. And when I finally made that connection the healing was exponentially greater than ever. It was like my husband wrapped up all of those years into a neat little bow and gave me the gift of moving on. Hugs!!!!! Many hugs and prayers to you. Because it is absolutely hard to get there. To get past him 😍❤❤❤❤❤
When you talk about teaching your body that decluttering is safe, it makes me wonder if you have tried EMDR therapy for recovering from trauma. If not, maybe consider looking into it. I had a truly life changing EMDR session that made a night and day difference in how I felt about a past abusive relationship. Immediately after the session I suddenly started crying before I even got to my car in the parking lot. It was like the dam had broken and an entire wave of all the tears I never let myself cry came crashing out of me. I ugly sobbed in my car right there in the parking lot. Then I suddenly felt indescribably better. I felt weepy off and on for no real reason over the next few days. Then after I had released all the sad feelings. it was like a weight had been lifted off me and my whole body felt safer. My entire nervous system relaxed. EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. Some people do it watching a screen or tapping their fingers on themselves. The therapist I worked with had hand buzzer things that I held in each hand. I've done the tapping type too, and it works too, but the buzzer things for me were like instant magic. I know it sounds crazy, but it's legitimate therapy treatment, with several research studies supporting it.
It’s heartbreaking that you and so many other young women fall prey to guys like this. We need to help girls from a young age to develop the tools to spot people like this, and the self-esteem to refuse their attentions. That being said, I totally get wanting to have a boyfriend because it made you cool and gave you status with your bullies (I did the same, I’m a little older than you) - I hope the world has changed enough that young women don’t feel the need to do this nowadays, but I’m not sure it really has.
Your basement videos are so motivating and are giving me the encouragement and the vision to know it’s possible to get my basement under control, one step at a time.. Thank you for sharing your journey & progress!
Good for you for dealing with the root causes of your issue! 👏👏👏 I thought I was the only one who hid the mess by tossing it into storage tubs when guests were expected! I called it ‘turbo tidying’, and am now working through some of those tubs from 5, even 10 years ago, and using the flylady system to keep it from happening anymore! Because I thought I’d take the stuff back out ‘later, next week at the latest’, I can’t just chuck it all in the recycling bin because it’s a completely random mix of vitally important items mixed in with five year old junk mail. Like you, I said I’d deal with it ‘later’ - IT’S LATER! (Hmm, sounds like a horror movie title…)😁🐈🌈🦄❤️🧡💛💚💙💜
FlyLady calls it the “Stash and Dash”. My basement holds multiple bags and bins of countertop and dining room table messes that were quickly swiped away. It’s time for me to go through them, too!
Hello Miss Heart!! A wonderful idea when you're ready to set up your craft section is to display your favourite nostalgic childhood toys (Barbies etc) on a display unit. I display my favourites on a bookshelf and glass cabinet in my sewing room - and it's such a fun, comforting and inspiring display. I'm 40yo and I'm honouring the items I have by displaying them. I think you would have a FANTASTIC display!
I feel like it's all coming together- your Christmas Cave; your childhood section; your candles box etc... You are doing so amazing! Love how you break down the thoughts behind the stuff, wow!! 💖💖💖
I love how real you are! You pick a small space that you want to clear and you do it!! It is just wonderful to see the real time progress you are depicting❤️💜🤗
August 2024. I have a bag for the food pantry "free table". Small toys, stickers, and school supplies for the kids who come to the pantry are fun. Tina, Al's wife
If you get to a point where you feel it's safe to let go of some Barbie items and wish to sell them, make sure you look online at listings! I think some of those sets have really increased in value!
I realized that my ADHD comes with time blindness and memory problems so I was also holding on to some things because I feared losing all of the memories. I thought I share this since memory problems are really common in people with ADHD ❤
You are so spot on with your message. This is also another reason why I hoard as well! I struggle with time blindness and memory myself! Thank you for sharing with us ❤️🙏🏻❤️
After over 30 years I am starting my hoarders journey. It feels good doing this with you! Or so it feels like it. I saved similar stuff and parting with it is like parting a piece of my childhood and of my young adult period. I take it slow, only part what I want to part. If I am not ready then save it for another day. I am proud of your progress. Just want to say your videos give me strength and understanding. I do this alone as my stuff is my stuff and gives me tremendous anxiety if someone else goes through it. ❤️ In time therapy will be a must to hold on to my journey and not get a relapse.
You’re a sweetheart. Honestly, if in the end you have a couple of bins of memorabilia and some Dalmatian stickers on them to protect the bins I’d consider that a total win ❤️
I totally relate to keeping stuff because it feels safe. I have so much sentimental stuff. But I heard someone say to only keep the sentimental things that bring good memories. Let go of the ones that were sentimental for negative reasons. I had never thought of that before. It felt so good to finally get rid of the things that brought back bad memories. For instance I had a little music box that I got as a little child and the memory was “it was the last thing my grandparents gave me before they died”. The memories were of my grandparents dying when I was only a small child. It brought back all the painful memories and thoughts. I was actually so relieved to let it go and not have to see it anymore and remember the bad memories. I’ve always looked at sentimental things as “sentimental” but it’s nice for me to start looking at them for what memories they hold. ❤️❤️❤️
I found your channel a few weeks ago and since then have watched almost all your videos in chronological order. You are incredible! Go girl! You did amazing today!!! Thank you for your motivation and sharing your knowledge with those of us that are trying to declutter. It is helpful to my journey ♥️
When you first mentioned the 101 dalmatians in this video I didn't hear you be attatched to it... I heard you be hurt by finding it again... because it reminds you of that time. Instead of finding safety in it, it's something that is hurting and in a way mocking you now. Just a thought. I'm very happy to see you breaking down those behaviors and connections because it is very hard to get out of our heads and face those traumas. May God bless you!
Thank you for another brilliant video 💪🥰. I didn’t hoard but I did shop when my ex was abusive and I got in so much debt. I’m working hard to stop shopping especially as I’m a single mum to 3 young children. I want better for them xx

Omg have you been in my house because that’s what I do when people are calling so I’ve bags and boxes of stuff that are in the office/library/shoe room/junk room 🤦♀️🤫 and yes I’m still avoiding going through that stuff. Oh my dearest friend, know I am holding your hand as you look at it!!! Take the baby steps that feel good to you! Even one piece of mail is a huge victory and a step closer to healing!!!

Eventually I had to pick them all out and recycle them. Might be worth to use this analogy for something like this. It's not like other sentimental toys. Amazing declutter! Love the New Kids stuff! My room was covered with photos and posters of them too. And I love that Miss Pepper gets her own tree - she is such a good supervisor and precious girl and she deserves it!
Awesome work Ms Heart! I know that you are getting more of your old stuff from your parents, but it's great that you can gather all your sentimental items in one place. Lots of love and thank you for sharing your story!
Yay Pepper...you are a wonderful support. Thanks for explaining the why behind all that you do Ms ❤️. So proud of your abilities to celebrate each step.... doesn't Pepper adore you! Love from NZ
I love you so much! Seeing your progress on a weekly basis has seriously helped with my own hoarding healing journey. It's like having a friend go through the same motions and emotions as me. Thank you!
I really applaud you for sharing your journey with all of us. I find decluttering very hadlrd on my own so most times, my sisters declutter my house for me because I easily get overwhelmed.
Wanted to let you know I came across a old lock box recently kinda like the one u showed. My friend happened to be over and looked at brand name of box and any code on the box and looked up that you can get replacement keys for ur safe box so got a key from ebay for under 5 dollars . Just wanted to share incase u may not of known that was a option.
I have always absolutely loved your videos. And seeing how much you have decluttered over the years! But I have to say Miss Pepper has made your videos even better! Pepper really won the jackpot when she got to go live with you! You are doing amazing!🥰
@@ahoardersheart 🥰 if I ever go north I'll have to see if you want to meet up. I'm sure that will be years from now because we are broke from renovations right now lol
What a great video! I love how you explain your thoughts. I’m happy for you in getting out of that relationship. How did you get out? For how long was that relationship? Now you have a supportive husband who I assume treats you well. I hope he can help you forget the past. Are you in therapy? Also, getting involve in church helps to heal and helping others get through their trauma. Keep it up!
Getting rid of a piece of broken exercise equipment! Yay! One step at a time, this decluttering will make the house be easier to manage. Wish I would have done decluttering daily through the years. Live and learn I guess. Also, you are making tremendous progress decluttering! It took awhile to get your house in that condition, and it will take time to get rid of a lot of it. Never give up!🌻
I don't know if it would help with the really sentimental things, but if it does you might want to consider donating stickers to a teacher. That way you know that you may be helping another child who is feeling lonely and hurt to feel valued when they see those stickers on their papers. You will be helping someone else who is potentially in a situation you have escaped.
Has Pepper had a Christmas with you yet? "Kitty's First Christmas" (and second and third and....) can be 'fun' in that kitties love to TOPPLE Christmas trees and scatter all the ornaments around the house! Also! Beware of the string lights! I had a kitten nearly strangle itself getting caught up in the lights! Fortunately I was right there to save it (I had to take a scissors to the lights though!) And then there was the year that hubby had to literally tie the Christmas tree to a sturdy table with ROPE! (not string! ROPE!) because we had a kitty who toppled the tree every 15 minutes (and broke many ornaments in the process!) Dollar Tree cheap, unbreakable ornaments to the rescue lol!
I was thinking that, too. I lived with some people who had a cat for Christmas one year, and after they put up a mini tree, she went after it at night. We all got woken by it tipping over (small apartment). Also, the next morning the ornaments were everywhere, even at the opposite end of the apartment. After that they got her some toys.
Melanie, yes it is a very nice tossy tossy pile! Your dress is very pretty also! I am glad that you are working through your trauma! I look back to my trauma days and realize that maybe that is why I also had hoarding issues! Buy new, second hand, for the children and always for later use. My fantasy selves! After being out of the situation, you do tend to see what you didn't see before! A long process! As I get older, I would like to step it up! I am tired of dealing with it all! It stirs up emos. all the time!
Yes!!! But recently, I felt the urge to keep about 5 boxes bc I wanted to post on Mercari!! I purposefully put them in the area that I was going to Declutter to see if that urge still existed a week later. I totally tossed it out that video, that urge was fully gone!! Lol

Also, getting involve in church helps to heal and helping others get through their trauma. Keep it up!
I think you are amazing 👏
Getting rid of a piece of broken exercise equipment! Yay! One step at a time, this decluttering will make the house be easier to manage. Wish I would have done decluttering daily through the years. Live and learn I guess.
Also, you are making tremendous progress decluttering! It took awhile to get your house in that condition, and it will take time to get rid of a lot of it. Never give up!🌻
🙀😻🙀I can’t wait to see Pepper’s Xmas tree!!!!!!
Good progress, girl!!
Omg I used to have boyband posters over all my walls as well. Backstreet boys and horses 😂
Fortunately I was right there to save it (I had to take a scissors to the lights though!)
And then there was the year that hubby had to literally tie the Christmas tree to a sturdy table with ROPE!
Your childhood toys and items are so cool! Even outside of their sentimental value - there is actually a decent amount of monetary value too!
Great video as always
See, I'm the opposite, I don't want to keep things that bring up those thoughts of bad times.. I happy times now.
I just love Pepper. She is so round and so sweet and adorable.
Let us know when you have the yard sale. I can’t wait to see the space freed from those boxes.
More space for Pepper…love it! 💜
Pepper is a cute emotional support cat ❤
Nice job! Are you keeping new boxes out of the basement? So glad you are feeling better!
Yes!!! But recently, I felt the urge to keep about 5 boxes bc I wanted to post on Mercari!! I purposefully put them in the area that I was going to Declutter to see if that urge still existed a week later. I totally tossed it out that video, that urge was fully gone!! Lol
