I read the description. I didn't watch the show and didn't know how excentric he is. He had to drink a certain typoe of bottled water but he ran out and refused to drink anything else. I guess they don't carry that brand in Mexico.

How ironic, the culprit was trying to outright murder Monk, but he would've accomplished just that if only he had kept Monk in Mexico just a little longer.

Unlikely. He'd have passed out and they'd have rushed him to the hospital and put him on an IV drip to rehydrate himself.

@@kwaitefuni9152 1: Monk has a specific brand of water that he always drinks, and he wasn't allowed to bring it with him. 2: Its Mexico, one of the common things people say about it is "Don't drink the water" (whether or not this is warranted, I don't know)

@@MrTerminator3010 actually, that’s not the context. What happened was that they brought their own supplies, food, water, the works. Their luggage was stolen from the car as they were checking into the hotel. Monk being Monk refused to drink any other brand of water than Sierra Springs.

I remember there was the episode where Monk, Natalie and Randy were at a cabin in the woods and Natalie managed to get Monk to drink from a stream. She did it by convincing him it was where they got Sierra Springs water from and I believe he was remembering how dangerously dehydrated he was here.
Even when he's thirsty he's the world greatest detective.

@@jhavv2488 Well that's actually the point of checking the bill. For Monk to check it and make sure everything is correct. Thing is that normally Monk would to make sure he wasn't overcharged for something. But he's in such a hurry to get out of there he doesn't care.

I like how Tony Shalhoub couldn't zip up the bag at first, so he just kept the scene flowing. Then in the next cut, the bag is perfectly zipped up lol.

As a Mexican, I remember watching this and thinking that the cops were such stereotypes but laughing anyways. They were some of my favorite side characters on the show!
Even today in my house whenever we want to shift the blame or use an excuse we all just say "it was the drugs" 😂
I think with Monk, the same is the case with the Captain and his assistant in the U.S., and the police in other countries. I think it may be a running joke that the police in other countries are 1 captain and 1 lieutenant, where the lieutenant adores the captain. At least that's what I noticed for U.S., Mexico, and France so far.

i couldn't stop laughing after Madero tried to charge at Monk when he corrects Alameda by saying he responsible for 3 homicides not 2.
Testifying against him, causing his wife to commit suicide, driving him out of America, proving him guilty of two murders....and adding that he also killed one more person.
Can you blame him! LOL
One of the best episodes because I love when we don't know the murderer until the end and the murderer is above suspicion. There are not many épisodes like this (Monk in vacation, Monk and the Cobra,Monk in the nude beach, Monk joins a cult..)
To me, is the "how", "Mr. Monk goes back to School" as an example or "Mr. Monk is on the Air". But the worst of the "who"s (to me) is "Mr. Monk and the Captain's Girlfriend

the three homicides (in chronological order) and the reasons he committed them are:
1: The wild lion (more likely a cougar though I wouldn't rule out the possibility of direct butchering). whether the doctor lured the kid into the wilderness to be attacked, or it was just an accident, is a mystery. decided to say it was a lion attack to lure Monk to Mexico.
2: Boy who drowned in mid-air (actually died from the fall, due to sabotaged cord). poured water into his lungs to add an additional puzzle piece in order to lure Monk to Mexico.
3: Suitcase thief. Ran him over thinking it was Adrian Monk.

How does Monk have any free time? His schedule has to be full testifying for all these cases he solves!
Most probably plead out rather than go to trial. Especially with the knowledge that if it does go to trial Monk will be testifying, so they're going to be found guilty, and thus get a high sentence.
This is definitely one of THE clips to share with people if you want them to get interested in Monk. It perfectly encapsulates everything about the series.

Without a doubt my favorite episode.
This is my favorite What Happened in the series, purely for how it uses the usual “impossible murder” formula to fool us. Also this episode was just freaking hilarious.
This was the very first episode of Monk I ever saw, so I always have a special place in my heart for this episode since it got me hooked and didn't let me go.
Interesting to note: Both the Captain and the killer played El Guapo's henchmen in Three Amigos.
I didn't start watching until the 2nd or 3rd season. First was Mr. Monk and the Marathon Man on a re-run. Watched them all after that and own them all. Good times.

I am honestly surprised that a woman of Sharona's age doesn't know what those beads mean. Surely, she could put 2+2 together and equate them to Mardi Gras? I have never been there, nor done that, but even I know what they represent. Especially with the way she dresses. I suppose it would have killed the comedic value if she knew, though.
