My opinion on this as a Cambodian/Khmer person. Although this is technically legal and Cambodia made everyone aware of such action being taken, before SEA Games even started, it still feels wrong for me. This decision to use imports/naturalized players was not made by the people of Cambodia neither the previous national players. I would just like to say that I bare no hatred to anyone, the imported players are basically just doing a job and hustling for money. However, I agree with the general statements of this being bad sportsmanship, because it defeats the purpose of SEA games (SOUTH EAST-ASIAN). I have had the opportunity to 'train' with some of the Cambodian national players around a year ago. They trained hard. It makes me sad that a lot of them are not getting playing time because of having imported players. I feel bad because they didn't get an opportunity to showcase their talents. I know many Cambodians will be angered by my opinion. Even my mother was mad at me after I seemed pretty underwhelmed by our gold medal in 3x3 a few days ago, I didn't elaborate much on it but in reality I was sort of disappointed in how we won. (Again no hate to the imported players). Even if we lose badly, I would rather we show local homegrown talent. A true representation of our country. On a final note, to all Filipinos (and everyone else angered), please do not hate on my country too much. I understand that you are angered, for many reasons, but the people of Cambodia from what I have seen are just as shocked to see these imported players. It was mostly likely a decision made the basketball/sports federation here in Cambodia. Please do not judge and hate a country for what a few people have done. I love the Philippines, I've had the opportunity to also train with and under Filipino's, and they have improved my game significantly. If Cambodia are joined in Fiba Tournament and Asian Games you're National Team are totally banned in this kind of competition even in Fifa.. Fiba🏀 and Fifa⚽ rules are allowed to played in 1 naturalized player and half blood player/Heritage blood but this kind of competition are such a big scam..

It's ridiculous. All Cambodian players are imports. No any single Cambodian at all. I think they are not naturalized players. Those foreign players are hired. It's different from Indonesia. Indonesia use naturalized players. They have to become Indonesian citizens first and they got Indonesian ID card and passport approved by the house of representatives of the republic of Indonesia. So it's a long process and not easy to be a naturalized player in Indonesia.

Me personally, I think naturalized/imported players should be disallowed from SEA games, for all countries. There is a reason why it is called South East Asian games. With a minimum standard to be 'half blooded' by the team you represent.
(Also I am ware Philippines used naturalized players too, but not the extent of Cambodia, going forward all should be disallowed from SEA Games in my opinion.)

It's ridiculous. All Cambodian players are imports. No any single Cambodian at all. I think they are not naturalized players. Those foreign players are hired. It's different from Indonesia. Indonesia use naturalized players. They have to become Indonesian citizens first and they got Indonesian ID card and passport approved by the house of representatives of the republic of Indonesia. So it's a long process and not easy to be a naturalized player in Indonesia.
