  • Not long ago I traded in my 2018 Road Glide for the Pan America. Several of my family and friends thought I was crazy for doing it or are expecting me to regret the trade soon. Ha! Not happening. I love everything about this motorcycle and ADV riding. I think I found my forever bike. LOL
Thanks for watching and I wanted to give a shout out to ‪@Broncoride‬ and ‪@retiredbiker‬ for some awesome instructional videos. The links to their videos that I used are below.

Thanks for the video. I have a 22 RGS and will not part with my performance bagger, but ADV sounds fun, so I pulled the trigger, traded in a Lowrider and am proud owner of a 2024 PA CVO. Now I get best of both worlds and can’t wait to explore off roads too. Stay safe!

I'm considering a PA when I get home in Oct. In doing my research I ran across an Australian's channel that may be helpful regarding modifications. He is an experienced dirt rider. The channel is Old Man Speed. All my previous dirt bikes have been 250cc or less displacement. My 08 FXDF has 158,000 miles on it. I think it is time to use it more for local rides. Another rider that has done some mods worth consideration is Florida Jim. He has a channel as well. His focus is longer rides such as the Iron Butt Challenge and the Hoka Hey. I enjoyed your review of your mods to the PA. Enough so I subscribed. Keep up the good work.

Thank you, sir, for sharing your experience with us. Like you, I've been waiting for the Pan America to mature. I bought my '94 UltraClassic new and have reached well over 100K miles on all kinds of roads. I'm finally ready to "trade up" for fuel injection. There are holes in my Kevlar drive belt from the ill effects of miles on gravel roads. So, I'll begrudgingly "trade over" for a drive chain. I'm waiting for a new Orange PA Special, maybe in '24 (?). Your video is inspiring and encouraging.

I brought a 2022 Pan Am Special, the mineral green paint version, with the army star, in March 2023, and I'm very happy too. Only had a few problems, software not up to date and creating a problem with the ommeter, easy fixed wtih an update, and a starting problem which they fixed with changing the starter clutch with an updated version.

Life long rider here and former m/c instructor. I’ve owned sport touring, cruising and adv bikes. Regardless my preference for motorcycles and riding has always drawn me back to adventure riding. My current rides are a 91 BMW R100GS (the granddaddy of adv motorcycles) and a 2009 DR650. I’m intrigued by the Harley PAS! It looks like a sweet ride, even if you never take it off road. The nice part is you can, if a gravel or dirt road beckons. Just remember it’s a heavy bike, and things can quickly get out of hand off road.
Congrats on your choice! Take your time, keep smiling and enjoy the ride. It will be interesting to see vids on your experiences with it.
    Ride safe!

i looked at the PA and I LOVE IT... the only thing is, its a bit expensive for a 20 something year old, also heard to many bad things about them reliability wise... so I got a Norden 901 instead and loving it.

There's no doubt it is an expensive motorcycle. I have the 2023 PAS and the only issues I have found are with the rider! LOL I think Harley fixed most of earlier year issues with the 2023. Time will tell but so far it is an amazing motorcycle. Congrats on the Norden.. that is a very capable machine too!

You took the words out of my mouth (almost). I’ve had an 07 Street Glide and 18 Road Glide and the past two years I just haven’t been inspired to ride. I think I put less than 1k miles on it last year and was thinking of getting rid of it. Well, the Harley demo truck pulled up and I test rode the Pan America and I absolutely loved it and never stopped thinking about it. No other bike has piqued my interest in losing the traditional Harley touring feel and sound. After all my research, I just couldn’t pull the trigger on the PanAm due to the amount of electrical gremlins and unresolved software updates that aren’t just quite there yet. Local Harley dealer got in a like new 23 R1250GS and at a price I couldn’t turn down. I’m absolutely in love with everything about the BMW and I’ve put a 1k miles on it this month. All your choices in accessories are spot on! Enjoy your ride!

Enjoyed your story and welcome to the world of ADV! Funny you mention the Blue ridge Pkwy I was up there last fall and took one of those dirt roads that parallel the Pkwy. Found some awesome views and was the only vehicle on that route for miles. Your best investment right now would be to take training. You can watch yt videos all day and try to practice on your own, but it'll never match the experience of in person training. Also, ditch those street biased tires if you're going to go off-road much. Even loose gravel or mud on forest service roads and those tires will let you down.

    • @KoryS_Uncaged
      @KoryS_Uncaged  ปีที่แล้ว

Funny you mention training.. I’ve been looking for something like that in this area of the country but still haven’t found anything available that I can attend. Sounds like a great excuse for a cross country ride!! Tires are certainly a possibility. I think a 50/50 set up will be what I end up with at some point. Thanks for your feedback!

Let’s hope HD continues and offers a smaller/lighter version that is more beginner friendly to help build a larger overall customer base. The 1250 is a beast and most people I see riding them are middle aged bagger converts who are already used to heavy bikes and who are trying to get excited about riding again. It’s such a versatile and capable bike.

Hey Man; Great video, the main thing about riding the H-D Pan America in the dark on the dirt and in the dark is the fact that the Headlight assembly is mounted in a solid, to the fairing. So it does not turn with the front wheel. Which means riding on the pavement would be safer in the dark.
I've been riding bikes since 1961, I have 62 years of riding experience, mostly on the dirt-bikes side of life.
The last bike I bought brand new was back in 1994, the bike was a 1993 KLX 650 Dual-Sport. It was the last year for the KLX 650 street legal Dual-Sport.
The next year they mount the headlight in a small fairing,(KLR- 650) and those bike have the same problem as your H-D PA.
You can sit-down on any bike that the Headlight turns with the wheel (direction) and you'll be able to see more of where your riding in the dark. Solid mounts fairing only shines the light direction your leaning the bike.
The one thing you might try is putting extra lights on the engine guard,(up high, or down low, or both) and aim them a little off to the side Left-Right, that way they'll cover more area in the dark.
O'yeah I still ride today, but not so much Off-Road, with my 1993 H-D FLHS.
As it is easier on the Back and Kidneys..LOL

Thanks for sharing your story. I have a similar story. I traded my Street Glide Special, with many trips/miles as well, for a Freewheeler in the hopes of being excited again about riding. The trike was fun, in a different way, but I was at a HD dealer one day and was convinced to take the Pan America for a test ride. I had a big grin the entire test ride and ended up trading for the PA. The thing is so quick, easy to handle and just a blast each time I take it out. I have the same V&H muffler and love the sound. If you're looking for a great set of foot pegs, Lone Rider makes a pair that are customizable and can rotate forward for easier rear braking. They are pricey but I think a good investment for myself as it looks like I'll be keeping the PA for some time. The last thing I want to do is add a license plate relocator kit by Yoshimura for a cleaner look on the back end. They call it a Fender Eliminator Kit.

That sport mode did me in on my test ride. It's such a nimble bike and much lighter than the ol' road glide by about 300lbs. Makes a huge difference but I'm finding I might be a little over confident! LOL I appreciate the lead for foot pegs!

I have a 2016 SG and I went Saturday to test ride a 2023 pan America and I definitely agree with the bar risers. I’ve had my eye on a triumph tiger 1200 for years now and when I herd Harley came out with an adventure bike I finally tried it out. It’s definitely fun but not for me. Even though it looks big standing next to it, it felt so small when I was on it. Or at least too narrow. I still want to try a triumph tigger but for now I’m sticking with the street glide.
