    Nicely done. I went a more expensive route with 2x12s and the building went up fast. I used tubes of quick grab adhesive then screws. After facing recent hurricane and storms now ice and snow, it is my home standinding. I let neighbors that lost their homes move in and share the shelter. Timeing was perfect to help three families in need. My structure is larger than the video cabin but process the same. Thank you.

      @@TheOffGridExperience no issues at all. Made jig so logs had consistant tongue and groove configuration. I did have help lifting as I am in my mid 70s. Built mountain cabin as a safe have from Florida hurricanes never thinking I would open doors to those in need. Stay safe

    Seriously, these videos are therapeutic. Just discovered you a few weeks ago and have watched every one. I'd love to do this if I had the property and could do it without the fear of it being "illegal". Living a simpler way, even if it was just a camp for a few times a month, seems like something a lot of us could benefit from in today's crazy world. Glad to see you added an impact driver too. I think what drew me in was the 2x8 construction… I did some math and it is highly affordable for materials and provides a very beefy building!!! I think in Michigan the wood costs alone was near $2000 for the 2x8 and $400 for 6x6 and 2 boxes of screws were about $200 (10,000)

      Try 4x8's... To make one Wall "About" 8ft High it wood take (Lowe's Pricing)
      18 6x6's at $60 Each = $960 X 6 Walls= $5,760
      18 4x6's at $32 Each = $576 x 6 Walls= $3456
      32 4x4's at $22 Each = $704 x 6 Walls= $4224
      I say 6 Walls because of a 16x32 Shed/House Size I would like to build and it wood take 6 walls worth of wood. Or 5 Walls worth I only go 16x24.

      @@epictroost as a banker, can i ask what you how long is the dollar even going to be a thing? My banker family has disinherited me and is giving me "money now" so they don't have to "worry about not having anything to give me when they pass".... which is a lie, because we live in different states and they're FILTHY rich, which they don't know I know. All I wish is to know why they're making the moves they are. What's going on that they know, that I don't?

      The outsider is a poor soul. Wasted time energy for his fancy no reality cabin. Because of his additude- his father sufferd alot. The outsider startet with a perfect foundament and then- if became clear that he never will live in this cabin. He wastet more then 18 month with side-video shows.
      A men with a goal huntes or runs to the end to finish a build like Dick Proenecke in Alaksa- I thing without log preperation 2 months and his cabin was winterready!
      I like the person "outsider" but he has a delusion a deception.
      IF HE WOULD like to live in his log home- he would build it with a mudroom and not a cancer producing plastic- epoxy. He is a content prioducer of enternainment not for live. Me as a facility manager with carpenter backround stop watching videos from souls that have no goal. Time waster. But not my. :-)
      PS: I live in the second biggest city in Germany in Hamburg. Here you are not allowed to live in a loghome or cabin in your own forrest. The green öko terror GOV toke all rights away. But I love watching souls how build a nice stabil traditionell cabin or log home. NORTHEM with "the birth of a wooden house" is a master. No chemical fake insolation! Best insolation through wood air and clay or bricks.

      @@JEJAK5396 typical us- great talk. There are 2 kinds of buildings- right way or wrong way. The right will be perfect in all wether situations- and then the TH-cam builders that build for the show. And many americans love show not reality. My grandfather had build one 1930 in Dortmund Germany. A hunting house on a soldid stone foundament 130 centimter away from the ground. With logs. Has 4 rooms. Its still there.

    Some people might question the R-value of the cabin, being there’s no insulation. I see a cabin that is healthier to live in. No off gassing of insulation, paint, stains, or any chemicals. I have some allergies to vehicle exhaust and chemicals. This is as natural as can be without living in a cave. I’m building another cabin next year. This method is what I’m seriously considering. I’m 64 years old, will retire in another year or so. I’m feeling my age, but I’m up to building something like this. I can get help as needed from my 2 grown boys. Good job sir.

      @The Off Grid Experience I was raised on bacon scrapple and fresh sausage... my father loved scrapple!! Me it had to be very thin and crispy. And once in a while. I think it is a pa thing tho mostly.. another thing I noticed since u used 2×10's and 12' s is since they were already dried u avoided leaving gaps for settling as opposed to logs where there is some shrinkage in the first year or 2. Does cauterizing the outside of the boards repel moisture and water that well? That u don't need say a water proofing stain ? Also a root cellar or dry room under could be useful longterm for storage. Just a thought

      I agree- this is NOT the California I was born and raised in… way too many evil forces have come into play. I have lived here 61 out of my 64+ yrs, and I can say for a certainty that this state has changed…

    Amazing, would love to do something like this one day. Have you thought about installing a mirco hydro system on that creek?

    Question about the cabin construction. Was this particular engineered log idea your concept or was there an inspiration/influence for it? Looking for other examples of this method. Really enjoy what I have seen so far. Thanks

      Thanks. Not my idea but I think I’m the first to video it. I think a guy up in Michigan has built some structures using this method. Take care!

    You should make an Amish style wash machine. Its a rocker box style that sloshes the clothes back and forth.

    are you going to install small windows on each gable end? it'll provide natural light and also since heat rises it'll smokin hot up their so a little cross ventilation would be nice

    • @TheOffGridExperience
      @TheOffGridExperience  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There will be a window on the back gable that has the loft. It will definitely help with air flow when it gets too warm.

    Your dedication to work, your style and your method of videoing reminds me of another artist I watch! You both are truly impressive. The only difference is Martijn's build is in Italy on a mountainside and his rebuild is of stone. I can't remember his last name (it's difficult to spell). Maybe some of your other viewers can help out on his last name, in case you want to check him out! Am enjoying watching your progress very much!

    Your channel reminds me alot of the beginning of self reliance channel. Shaun started out building a small cabin like yours using fence posts. He of course was forced to sell the property and he has built a new log cabin. He's also built a pretty cool greenhouse beings that he's a Canadian and he has to deal with long dark winters. Keep the content coming

      Adding a small water wheel in the nearby creek hooked up to a semi truck alternator and a battery bank would be a cool upgrade and you don't have to spend money on solar panels that will eventually be thrown into a landfill

    • @TheOffGridExperience
      @TheOffGridExperience  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. 8 boards at a time up and down hills and over creeks. I’m using a mix of standard deck screws and Simpson connectors. Thanks for watching,
