  • The bus is back baby!!! We are SO thrilled to be moving back into our home. We wouldn't be here right now without all the love and support we received over the past two months from YOU. Thank you all for your kind messages, donations, and understanding as we worked through our toughest challenge yet.
    We don't touch on it in this video, but for anyone wondering, we did end up doing a full engine replacement. Unfortunately, fixing our previous engine was not going to get us the same peace of mind as swapping it out entirely. If you're curious about the diagnosis, feel free leave us a comment or message us on Instagram and we're happy to go into more detail! For now, we're just focusing on getting back on the road :)
    As always, love you!! 💖

      We had to replace the entire engine 😭 Our mechanic gave us 3 different options to choose from and the full replacement (even though it hurt the most) was the one that was going to bring us the most peace of mind.

    Your bus is very nice! What im wondering is, where do you all work? How do you make money to take care of the bus?

      Thank you!! We both work remotely for a biopharm company. We used to work in a lab as scientists and were able to transfer to remote work ☺️ so we have normal full time jobs, we just do them from the road!

    Woot! You're back! I have a suggestion in the event you have a future breakdown. There is another channel called Knapp Time with Randy and Shelly. Randy has a method for finding great mechanics and has done it several times on his channel. Also, they answer you when you comment or ask them questions! Anyway, I would suggest having a chat with Randy so you are ready in the future, would be nice to see your travels go along with the most ease and fun as possible :) th-cam.com/users/KnappTime

    So can you say what the end result of what he bus repair took and the expenses? Like was it just a valve train repair? complete engine? Since it was a recall did the manufacture pick up all or any of the bill? Which engine do you have? Any kind of warranty on the recent work done?

    • @AdventureTrudge
      @AdventureTrudge  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We did a complete engine replacement. Our mechanic gave us three options: the lowest tier was to just replace the broken dogbone piece, the second tier was to replace the dogbone and do some other preventative maintenance, and the third was the engine replacement. The engine replacement came with a 2 year warranty so the cost to benefit/peace of mind was worth it to us to go with the full replacement. It was $30,000 and the manufacturer did not pick up an of the bill. Our engine is the Maxxforce DT which is known to not be great but we have several friends with the exact same bus/engine who never had issues and we really did just get unlucky. The bus was listed as having a DT466 which would’ve been great, unfortunately after 2009 the manufacturer replaced the 466 with the Maxxforce and our bus is a 2010. After the engine replacement we continued having issues with oil in our coolant reservoir which turned out to be an oil cooler issue which was thankfully covered under the engine replacement warranty but we haven’t had any issues since then. Hopefully this help, let me know if you have any other questions!!

      @NomadicHooker ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AdventureTrudge Thanks for the detailed answer. Damn, so sorry you got stuck with that bill. No, Maxxforce is no good. Let's hope the recall and engine replacement has some updates that'll help keep some of the problems away and I'd expect you also have a good warranty now. I too "Settled" for a Cat C7, at least it's the 2005 and not the 2007 or later C7, instead of the Cummins or DT466,DT466E I actually wanted but it has the transmission I wanted. So long as I keep the oil clean so it doesn't trash the HEUI pump and then injectors, it should be OK and with only 130,000 miles, I should have many more miles left before any expensive failure. I'll be watching, J and N sent me to your channel.
