Actually got a chance to hold one of these a few days ago. they're basically small dogs with wings.
fucking lucky
Yeah I want to hold one
Hobbes are they big?
Sky puppies 🦇🐕👍
Yes I’ve heard this about sharks and bears too! 😉
Why the hell is national geographic trying to make these things look like freaky monsters with the weird imagery and ominous music and audio cues? Flying foxes are the cutest bats you'll find anywhere.
F THATS WHAT I WAS WONDERING. They’re such lovely silly little battys 😭
Aerin Lena thank u for sayin that, we truly are the ultimate pests. Overpopulation and killing off animals and taking their homes. All these animals are doing is tryna live, bats don’t even attack people, unless they’re on the floor or being used or cornered.
thanks
The mainstream media is all about showing the most "bizarre" things so they could make money. Flying foxes are not scary, very cute.
Way cuter than microbats. Geez use them for this show. Flying foxes are absolutely adorable.
Stop making them sound menacing with the narration and music. They're adorable.
They aren't menacing in that they don't attack humans. But they are absolutely something out of many people's nightmares. You'll just have to accept that.
@@defenceforse4102 Because people would judge them by their size. Doesn't really excuse what Nat Geo was doing though.
@@defenceforse4102 They aren't nightmare inducing, literally nothing about them is scary lmao
Vampires like dracula ruined the bats image lol
@@defenceforse4102 i personally find them adorable, but You have to admit their size si at least overwhleming
Don’t listen to these lies on how these things are like monsters, because these creatures in all reality are probably some of the cutest bats that i know of.
'These aren't really wings. They're more like hands. 3-foot wide alien hands with webbed fingers, that is.'
Well. I guess birds don't have wings either. They're more like hands. Feathered alien hands with hidden fingers, that is.
There are quite a few differences in the anatomy of bird wings and those of bats/flying foxes.
@@CrniWuk yea but who decided that bird wings aren't just modified fingeres
Birds have 2 fingers hahah. Only difference besides others i might leave out is that Birds have feathers and bats have membranes, bats can move their fingers and birds can’t, and bats use their thumb while birds don’t. Maybe birds 2 fingers are actually a thumb and the others fused I haven’t checked but I don’t think it is :0!
yeah but.... birds hands arent in their wings. Bats' are.
@@andreamikoda9657 The finger is the phalange, birds have three. A dog or cat has four, so it's not that big of a difference from boned creatures.
They are adorable amazing animals, that deserve to live and be protected.
That hissing effect was dumb.
But I love these animals. So cute and sweet.
Way is this made to be so menacing, these bats are the cutest things ever!!! XD
They're adorable. Not weird at all. Wonders of nature!
"Who are you?!"
"I'm Foxman!"
Filip Önell "My firefoxes are dead"
Every video about bats someone just has to
Is that a Joke, then you are the Joker
This animal is one of the cutest I have ever seen.
what a difference between this natgeo "Try to make everything seem extreme and dangerous-approach" and real actual documentaries
Amen.
Yeah indeed. "These are not wings, they are HANDS...*insert dramatic music here*"
Fakedocs.
these are beautiful animals. there is nothing weird or scary about them.
Ebola..
Agreed!
+Medina Sod true that:
1st- they are herbivore
2nd- they look like dogs
3rd- giant puppy eyes.
Wow. When did National Geographic, once so respected, feel the need to add such inane commentary and musical score? What's next, a laugh track? Looks like BBC documentaries are the only ones left you can each without cringing in embarrassment.
ya National Geographic got its head out of its ass. u should too
I agree. National Geographic seemed like it was trying to sell bats as scary and alien-like monsters, instead of spreading information about bats. These types of bats can't even hurt a fly.
It was pretty funny, though -- hearing them tying to make the process of these bats drinking water a terrifying ordeal! Hahahaha.
Laurence Huseby exactly what I was thinking, people have enough false knowledge about them, without videos like this.
AYe.. besides that one about the shaolin monks. lol
This is why I stick to watching Animal Planet
they're really cool bats, not weird at all. all bats are fascinating.
Vampire bats?
They're really beautiful creatures. I like how they glide across the sky.
As soon as i heard the ominous music i burst out laughing but then they had to add that hissing effect with slow motion and i just lost it. In reality flying foxes are super adorable and cute and when they're babies they need to be wrapped around a stuffed toy with a blanket and a pacifier in their mouth LOL
But flying foxes are like little puppers!
I’m going to shamelessly everyone about megabattie’s and batzilla’s channel.
These animals are not weird, they’re adorable af and I love them
I love megabattie! 🦇❤
Megabattie 🦇 and Batzilla 🦇 will teach you more and better as National Geographic will ever do. Love the channel from Megabattie too. And of course I ❤ Walter, Teddy, Poppy and the rest of the gang too!
@@jenniferlila8359 Ugh Walter is such a diva, I love him!!
@@oranlichtman2021 Rip Walter 🙏😔
Its amazing that there are mammals that can fly and even more astounding that some of them are this large !!
Flying Foxes are pretty chill. We had 100s of them near a house of mine. Never caused us or any one problems :)
"World's Weirdest"
I think what you mean is "World's Goodest Bois"
They are so cute!
I've never found bats scary before, and I'm putting it on the way this video was presented and edited. I imagined what it would've been like as a BBC Documentary and I wasn't scared anymore. Why can't you just show them for what they are instead of going along with myths and people's preconceived false notions about them? Y'know, bats drinking water shouldn't be portrayed as something creepy or scary. They're living creatures, they need to stay hydrated somehow! Even plants drink water. They don't hiss either. These bats chirp and squeak.Honestly, I'm glad I'm Welsh and not American because at least our media doesn't pull stupid stunts like this in animal documentaries.
Exactly! These stereotypes are nonsense honestly
Am I the only one who thinks flying foxes are adorable?
So beautiful to watch them all flying while the sun is setting. Top of my bucket list is to go to Aussie and see these amazing creatures in person.
dont get killed? maybe u are dead its been 2 years since u commented here
It really is a experience seeing them every arvo such wonderful creatures
Then what do you call those elongated hands with the membrane attached that stretches to the legs? You call them WINGS!
they are so adorable, they remind me of my puppy :)
Moar like world's cutest!
Flying foxes are air doggies. Super cute. ❤️
Remember: Always, and I do mean ALWAYS, keep your bat locked and loaded!
Those things are cool.
0:28 did not do these guys any justice.
beautiful. I felt bad for the one that the croc got :/
So cool! Only mammal that can swim and REALLY FLY!
Other mammals can swim
@@Gam1ngM3nace Aye, but not fly. Bats are fascinating
they are not really swimmers didn't u see the one that got eaten by the crocodile?
@@deadpianist7494 Try beating a cocodrile in the water. Not as easy as it looks
everyone lying in the comments calling these things cute, if you saw one walking towards you hissing i’d bet you’d freak out
Flying Foxes are smarter than the people in charge at Disney!
little red mega bat.
BATS Rule!
Flying foxes are actually cute compared to other kinds of bats.
WTF Nat Geo demonizing these awesome flying FOXES?!! These animals are very important to Australia’s ecosystems. They are not aggressive to humans and other animals. Without these awesome BATS Australia wouldn’t be as prosperous. So stfu GNAT GEO!!!!!
Amazing creatures.
Gee let’s make really sweet bats look scary and ominous so people can continue to be fearful.
I feel like most of these videos start with "In Australia"
Batman bat 🦇 vs Killer Croc 🐊 and the winner is 🐊 👑
Am i the only one who thinks bats are really cute?
thanks for posting and your support.
however, why would NatGeoWild use the words "freaks of the sky" ?
If only Australians could appreciate bats the way the world does.
I love Flying Foxes! It would be really cool to see one in person.
Flying foxes are one of my favorite bats!
Listen to them the children of the night.......muhuhahaha....what sweet music they make
Music???...Those animals?
@@MrFrostien Okay, I have to give it to you there. When they're upset or being territorial they have a type of screech not unlike the screeching of crows. But they can be the cutest little darlings, too. Even some of the old educational bats have their charms.
Someone able to make a joke and not feel offended by the music XD Thank you. I actually didn't mind the score. It was more something to tell a story and the music inspired awe more than fear. But hey that's just me.
I love the horror music in the background. Flying foxes are so cute though! They act just like little puppies and love to play. I just can't possibly see them as scary lol
They're not wings but hands, but the long fingers stretch out the thin membrane to control speed and altitude... so they're wings.
flying foxes? I only see bats here.
They're bats, but another name for them is the flying fox.
Their face shape is pretty much self-explanatory as for why they're called flying fox
thanks.
fyi their real name is Megabat. maybe they should be called Blossom Bats.
Guys it's world's weirdest, not scariest. The alien music was cause the bats are very odd, not scary or dangerous
Sky puppies 🦇🐕👍
The poor dears are always crashing, falling, getting hit by cars, getting electrified, attacked by predators, the mamas drop babies, etc just all kinds of terrible things happen to them.
Many end up with head, spine, wing, or internal injuries that can not be treated and either die or are euthanized.
Human encroachment hasn't been kind to the poor flying-foxes.
So basically this whole time that Jeepers Creepers bat thing was real 😳
At 1:20 the bat like swim faster! and the crocodile like food!
more like nature's cutest!
Kyubi meets Dracula.
they look really cute actually :3
Look at the beauty
Bats are so cool. Especially this kind.
_Beautiful_ creatures
I love how everyone in the comments has come together to defend the sweet and humble fruit bat hahahaha
no, fruit bats can see pretty well. you're thinking about the bats that try to catch insects out of the air.
How does this classify as weird? There are thousands of species of bat on the planet. And bats aren't even the only mammals that use membranes to get around. In a world with flying fish, carnivorous plants, and platypuses, I don't think a bat wing is that weird.
I don't know if you really have no idea or being sarcastic but a flying fox is just a name for a type of bat..
Nanananananana... FLYING FOX MAN
"WHERE ARE THE DRUGS?!?!"
I love bats and they are needed..read up on them
1:17 killer croc finally got the bat.
here in the Philippines flying foxes grow as big as humans
flying foxes are like puppies with wings
seen those large bats when I was stationed in Subic Naval Station. They migrate in huge numbers after rainy season.
0:27 best shot
Really love flying foxes but the narrator made them out to be creepy and weird instead of amazing and beautiful.
A croc eating a bat... Well that's something I never thought I would see!
they do look pretty cute ^^
Oh so lovely.
How Nat Geo portrays flying foxes
Flying fox: Kali ma...kali ma...
They are the cutest behave youself Net Geo
Cute little guys
An alligator eating a bat ;
random chinese chef : hmmm! interesting
They're actually kinda cute...
each bat has to be locked and loaded... LOL
In the defense of the show: if you saw one of these things flying at you you would probably freak out.
Fun Fact: Bats don't have wings at all, they are just loose folds of skin.
You know it’s videos like this that make ppl hate them, scared of them. By making them look evil. The sound effects and lighting. They are harmless mammals
Yes, they're part of the bat family. But they're also called flying foxes, due to their fox-like faces.
They are bats. They're just nicknamed "the flying fox bat" because they look like foxes (size, color, snout, etc.). The video calls them "flying foxes" to get more views.
It's a flying fox! :D
It is Batman!
If ever you are on survival, this bats are food you know :D
they’re adorable wdym national geographic!!!??? they’re so precious 😍😍😍
Nat Geo why u tryna make them look scary they’re so sweet and silly! That hiss you added for effect? That scene was just a bat bein spooked and tryna look bigger. I asked a rescuer a long while ago and she said they don’t hiss at all!
i'm straight as long as spiders don't fucking start flying
Atlast bats are a variant of a fox.I KNEW IT
The reds are only one type of flying fox. There are black, brown, gray headed and tube nosed. If you want to learn more I recommend Megebattie, Batzilla, Baby Bats and Buddies who are just three of the rescue/rehab TH-camrs who also educate their viewers on the importance of this species
I would shit myself if I seen all those bloody bats flying around, you wouldn't catch me chilling there.
never count a croc out
