This doctor reminds me of the doctor that walked in the room and told me that I had PCOS....I actually had a brain tumor on my petuitary gland. Doctors need to learn to talk to their patients before assuming.

It's a prolactinoma brain tumor and I was prescribed medication to make it shrink. I had to stop taking the meds because I got pregnant. I have an MRI on Monday to see if it has grown.

She lost me when she said she basically automatically assumes her patients have pcos just by looking at them , no test.. nothing. Also lost me when she says the cure to pcos is birth control. Crazy!!

Yeah this really bugged me. I don't have a lot of the "obvious" symptoms of PCOS. I just got diagnosed today at 26 after having 2 kids and regular periods for MOST of my life after multiple doctors kept telling me nothing was wrong and 1 doctor finally looked into it. You can't just look at a patient and decide "yeah they LOOK like they have *insert illness or disorder here*"

RED FLAG when a doctor says something is the cure of PCOS. It has ZERO cures so far.

This doctor does not know what she is talking about. I've been living with PCOS for nearly 30 years. You cannot look at me and tell that I have it. I've never had acne. Not even in my teens. I do not have male pattern baldness. I've struggled with my weight all my life but I even got that under control once I met a competent doctor who truly understood that PCOS symptoms should not be masked with medications such as birth control and Metformin. I had to eliminate sugar, dairy, grains, and unprocessed food to control the insulin resistance which is associated with PCOS. From there most of my symptoms subsided. There is not a cure but many of the symptoms including obesity can be eliminated through nutrition, not medication. It's sad that so many girls will come to the internet and take her advice because she is wearing a white jacket.

@Chloe Yu Like she said quit dairy and sugar. first and formost! They are the devil for us with PCOS. Take fish and green veggies more. Even avoid fruit if u can as it translates as "sugar" when ur insulin resistence.

@G- clef Meat or seafood and veggies for the most part. I eat a diet that I would call paleo/keto. I dont' eat dairy such as cheese or cream which keto diets often consist of. Instead I get my fats from fish, avocado, olive oil, and nuts such as almonds. There are also so great low carb, zero sugar, dairy free food alternatives that I've discovered over the years that make great substitutes for things such as bread, cereal, milk, ice cream, etc.

I just saw a gynecologist today and he believes that based off of my symptoms, medical history, and follicles from my face that I have PCOS. I did a whole blood panel on my hormones and a pap smear and he'll review it all with me on the 9th of June. He told me that I will most likely get the diagnosis of PCOS and he told me that one of the only treatment options is the birth control pills or depo. I had a lot of issues on the depo shot, so I won't go back to that. what's wrong with taking the pills? Doesn't it help preserve your eggs and regulate your cycle?

    • @Angelahhh
      @Angelahhh 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Tori's Stories no honey it does not. Quite the opposite actually. For some it may. Otherwise it’s just a temporary bandaid that doesn’t fix the root cause. And once you come off of it negative things happen and pregnancy becomes harder to achieve. It messes with hormones. Try a more holistic approach first before you settle for conventional medicine. High insulin and testosterone causes pcos. That’s the root cause. Fix that first. Low GI foods, low carb, sugar free, keto or paleo, intermittent fasting. Taking natural alternative supplements such as berberine, inositol, vitex, and maca are proven to help even reverse pcos in woman, regulate cycles, and successful pregnancies. If you want more information to believe these facts then check out Dr Berg and Dr Jason Fung (who wrote great books called THE PCOS PLAN and LIFE IN THE FASTING LANE)

Angela I just think that we need to look at journal critique articles that are based on consistent and factual science and I’m going to do my own research because I have a feeling that a lot of people are very much misinformed on treatment options, birth control pills, other medicine, and even holistic options. I won’t ever take one dr’s word for something and believe that looking at things that are based on fact is very important, especially when it comes to my fertility. I don’t believe that birth control pills cause infertility And have never found any studies that back this up, but if you know of any, please share!

But after two years I finally found a doctor that heard me instead of analyzing me. Not all doctors are great ..

I think it's nice to even be validated with regards to PCOS. My doctor diagnosed me and said to lose weight and it will go away, and so did the endocrinologist I saw, but I've had inconsistent periods since a very young age, and when I was very fit they were still inconsistent. Losing weight doesn't always get rid of the problem, it may help w symptoms sometimes as long as while you're losing weight you're also implementing PCOS healing remedies, but otherwise it does not get rid of it. I can say that from personal experience.

The best explanation I have ever heard about PCOS. I am 57 years old and have three children, one through infertility treatment. It wasn't until I was 30 years old that a reproductive endocrinologist diagnosed me with it. I have fought my weight all my life. I had gastric bypass surgery in 2004 bc I was told it would control the insulin resistance issue. It did for a while until I hit menopause. Now it is back again. I searched on TH-cam any new findings and this interview was eye opening. My recent sugar test was 137 and my NP put me on Metformin. I am following a low carb diet and exercising. It is so frustrating.

I was diagnosed with PCOS when my first cyst ruptured at age 14. Pain so bad they thought it was my appendix at first. Over the next 35 years I averaged 5-8 periods a year. Managed to get pregnant using clomid at age 38. Periods remained irregular after my daughter was born. Fast forward 11 years, and my kid gets her first period. Exactly 28 days later she got her next period. I got mine on the same day. She is almost 17 now, and I just turned 56. Still not menopausal, and for the past 5 and a half years, I have gotten my period regularly every month. Women are supposed to be regular in their youth and become irregular as they approach menopause. I did the opposite, and haven't had a cyst since my daughter started menstruating. I believe I've accidentally discovered a cure for PCOS: living with a woman (or girl, in my case) who cycles regularly and doesn't have PCOS. Someone needs to research this cure.

    Shaily Race Horse on Course
    Period Square PCOS
Shaily is a young lady I met in June 2019. Very shy girl. Same age as my daughter Drishti. Drishti is quite an extrovert with friends from all sphere. Shaily a total opposite. She is among the 2300 women I am working with. The setting was Star Bucks, Select City walk and not comfortable with hustle-bustle. When I asked her she agreed and suggested we could go to Becos, Metropolitan Mall, Saket and being afternoon there would be peace and quiet. The interview started.
In 2012 at the age of 20 Shaily experienced extreme pain below her stomach. It was kind of time for her periods but they hand not come. Studying in JMC Chanakyapuri. As youngsters instead of going to the doctor, along with Roopa she went for a coffee to Taj Mahal Hotel. Walking a slippery slope. Bearing it for a few days and it passed and her periods also came. In 2014 waiting for a job interview at Infosys the episode repeated. The corporate lady HR manager took no chances. A stitch in time saves nine. She was promptly taken to a Gynaecologist Dr Anu Sinha. She noted the case history, realised that for last one year Shaily had erratic periods, 3 in 2013. But ignored it. Next days after Ultrasounds, Blood tests it became clear that she has PCOS. Over these 5 years, she put on weight and had a major hirsutism issue. She could sense hormone imbalance causing her depression and irritation.
In Dec 2019, Drishti took me to Select city for Christmas and Birthday shopping. My birthday is on the 25th of December. Between the Zara and Lee Cooper, we suddenly bump in Shaily. I introduce both of them and soon realise they are both 2011 school pass-out. Drishti suggests we have her favourite Star Bucks coffee. Shaily was in full bloom, no sign of shyness. Later at home, Drishti described Shaily to Seema, my wife, as a shining star whose hair was flowing like the river. Shaily has thick black long hair till her hips. Period Square had worked for her.

As someone with PCOS I think the doctor did a great job of explaining what PCOS is which is great because most doctors can't and don't explain it when diagnosing. Unfortunately the way she explained "treatment" left out many important details. Birth control is NOT a treatment for PCOS and is more like putting a bandaid over a bullet wound. Infertility, excessive facial hair, and weight gain are only some of the symptoms of PCOS. Women with PCOS are also at a higher risk for anxiety and depression. Birth control masks PCOS symptoms and does not aid in improving the overall health of women with PCOS. She also failed to mention that using birth control, spironolactone, and metformin for "treatment" means taking these medications for the REST of your life. Metformin is also a very tough medication to take and many women are miserable while getting used to it. I'm all for using medicine for treatment if needed but I think doctors should educate women and them them know that nutrition is the first line of treatment for PCOS. By eliminating sugar and eating a low carb diet (like the Ketogenic Diet) women can actually heal their bodies naturally. Changing your diet can seem intimidating and a lot of work but with proper education and a plan, you can do it. As of right now there isn't a cure for PCOS so this is something women have to manage daily. I have a website, www.HelloPCOS.com if anyone wants to learn more. I also face a facebook group "Hello PCOS Cysters" if anyone needs to build a support system.

On one hand I don't have many of the more common symptoms and am a size 4, but internally I am on the more extreme end with two periods a year if I'm not on birth control. Diet and exercise does make such a great difference though and these recommendations are very helpful.

Ugh. This video will mislead so many women into thinking the only way to treat PCOS is through medications. 😩PCOS can be treated with lifestyle and diet changes, and medicine is not the answer - only masks the symptoms, and actually can make it worse. I was diagnosed with PCOS a few years ago after I had become 70 pounds overweight, had high cholesterol, high cortisol, hair growth, and was pre-diabetic, insulin resistant, etc... so I decided to make a change. I cut out fried foods, sodas, most breaded products, added sugars, etc, and I worked on dealing with my stress, and now 4 years later and after having a baby, I have lost close to 70 pounds and have reversed the pre-diabetes, high cholesterol, and cortisol. No drugs, no BC. Sorry doc... 🤔

My PCOS manifested in a lack of menstrual cycle, weight gain, digestion issues, and acne. I had constant food cravings as my blood sugar would spike and drop every time I ate. I also had a pretty substantial ovarian cyst. I went to ENDOCRINOLOGIST and he prescribed me METFORMIN. After 2 weeks I lost weight and my digestion had improved, after three months I had my first menstrual cycle, and after 6 months my acne had cleared up immensely. Birth control was something I never wanted to go on as it is known to also cause weight gain in some patients, and I felt that was already a problem I was facing. Metformin has changed my life. It helps with insulin resistance and allowed me to eat normally without the fear of gaining weight. All I can say is that it worked for me, and I would suggest asking your endocrinologist about it.

I believe in the good diet and exercise, but I also began to think that some women need a little more than that.

As auntie. Alternative options over here. if you’re new to your journey don’t make choices out of fear when you first get diagnosed, I know it’s terrifying. But as a Cyster with hypothyroid troubles for almost 20 yrs. I didn’t take any of the meds my dr offered me. He never insisted as he knows the drugs this dr and mine offered, “mask” the symptoms. I chose to heal my bod through diet exercise and holistic alternatives and experienced all my symptoms lift. I lost 75 lbs, skin cleared and my menstrual cycle has been like clock work for years now. Don’t let fear take grip, stay positive, love yourself and have faith. I do take Berberine in place of metphormine as well as Mayo & D-Chiro inositol +folate & vitamin D. MOVE your bod daily and eat lots of green leafy veggies, your body is magic and is a healing machine.

I was diagnosed a month ago and I am trying to educate myself as much as I can. Since i’m 20 i want to start making changes asap, started exercising, consuming less sugar and i am going to make an appointment with a nutritionist too
My dermatologist is trying to help with my acne, he suggested accutane but i’m scared to take it so for now i’m using cleanser, creams and spot treatments
My gynecologist recommended birth control pills because my period was VERY irregular and she is trying to balance my hormones, luckily my glucose levels are good. I’ve been taking them for a month but reading the comments I’m not sure if I should... she told me to do 6 months of pills and them stop for a while to see if exercising and a healthy diet helped 😥

What about the causes of PCOS? Was diagnosed with PCOS as a young teenager in the 70s (in France) when it was still called Stein Levanthal disease and thought then that while this was due to a hormonal imbalance the ovaries were the main responsible for the condition. Then, when I developed diabetes later on in my 50s I thought PCOS was due to insulin ce resistance. So what is the latest scientific understanding of the causes of PCOS? By the way no one knew or talked about Stein Levanthal in the 70s or 80s or later about PCOS - except me when talking about my obesity, pilosity/‘hirsutism or infertility. Long story short, stopped having periods naturally at 14, had a son with Clomid at 30 and then a daughter with no other treatment when 39. Now I know of half a dozen young women diagnosed with PCOS in the next generation, some of them in my family and it’s good to be able to talk about it. For the first time ever in my mid 60s a new medication (on top of my regular diabetes treatment) is helping me with the curse of the ‘craving for carbohydrates’. With progress so far in less than 3 months I can hope, for the first time ever, to come back very slowly to a healthy weight, having to loose 5 stones within a little more than one year. Ozempic is this new treatment.

One which I had to have surgery to remove last year. Sadly birth control, spironolactone, and metformin are just bandaids and I wish there was a more simplified and natural approach to dealing with it.

I am 23 and was diagnosed with PCOS at the age of 20. My symptoms are only that it's a little bit harder for me to lose weight than my friends, my period is VERY light and that my sweat stinks horribly, I have a really strong body odor. I went to the dermatologist and none of the skin treatments she gave me worked AT ALL, then I went to an endocrinologist who tested my hormones and told me that everything looked fine and controlled thanks to my birth control and finally I went to the gynecologist who changed me from Nuvaring to Dretinelle, because the Nuvaring is not anti-androgenic and he was trying to control my androgen levels with another bc method. I have been on Dretinelle now for 2 months and I haven't noticed any side effects, I have my periods regularly but the body odor is still there. This is a NIGHTMARE and really messes with your self-esteem. Any one experienced something similar?

I agree with the below comment. My doctor put me on birth control for PCOS and I ended up with 7-8 cysts on both my ovaries month after month and a fibroid. Since being off birth control I haven’t had any cysts. Also I had VERY thick hair and since taking the spirolactone, my hair is falling out in clumps and thinning SO bad and plus it only helped with my acne for the first few months and then it was back to normal. I truly believe cutting out sugar and dairy helps a ton with the acne and since eating healthy and working out regularly, my period is finally back monthly after not having it for over a year! And FYI metformin has such horrible side effects!! Stomach upset, diarrhea etc. since being off of that I’m finally having regular bowel movements. Is that TMI?? 😂

And also when i was 16 my hair start falling out. I went to the gynecologist en did a echo (a outside echo, not a inside one) and the gynecologist couldnt see anything incorrect. When i search my symptons up all i see is ‘pcos’ but my doctor said that thats not possible because i still get my periode often. And also because the gynecologist couldnt find anything. Does anybody think that i have still PCOS? Because my doctor doesnt take me serious she didnt help me at all. What could i do next? What should i ask my doctor for? I hope someone anwsers, im really sad about al these symptons..

Thank you so much for organizing this video.
Although I am not a fan of being on medication. I now have a great naturopath that’s helped me a lot. I’m also on a keto program which is the best thing I’ve done. Down 6.5 kilos and another 7 to go. Any other natural alternatives you suggest with out any medications? Appreciate the video. Thank you 🙏🏽

I have pcos but I also live a healthy lifestyle. I don t have insulin resistance or weight problems so I'm not a typical candidate.I went on birth control and it caused me to have severe panic attacks and anxiety......they were so debilitating that I there was a period when I was unable to leave my home because I was so afraid and anxious. It was hell on earth. 4 years later and I am still not the same as I was before birth control. To this day I cannot walk into a doctor s office without having an anxiety attack. So I avoid them most of the time but sometimes I will push myself to go because I. Know it is important but the anxiety is so bad that it will take me days to recover. The whole experience has left me with major hang ups... I struggle with anxiety daily and I trace it all back to that pill.I currently take 200mg of progesterone for 14 days a month to regulate my cycle and it has worked much better for me. I feel like doctors like to prescribe birth control like it s candy or something these days. It seems to be a knee jerk reaction in response to irregular cycles. I guess it s probably just what they are trained to do....idk. Do they understand how much it can hurt women? I think there needs to be more of a discussion in our society on the risks and side effects of birth control pills... It s often seen as this great and empowering thing when in many cases it is anything but. I understand that not all birth control pills are created equal but I just cannot bring myself to experiment with different pills. This still was a good video and dr. Alabadi seems like a nice lady who really knows her stuff, but I just wanted to share my experience and to highlight the link between birth control and anxiety and panic attacks and how it might not be the best option for some women. I have done some of my own research and have found stories similar to my own.

I've had it for 6 years and it only got worse and the best thing to do ladies is to stay away from carbs and GMO foods. That means all those fast food, sugary drinks and frozen tv food and oh a lot of dairy it will cause havoc in the body.

I appreciate the info in this video, explaining how pcos works in your body does help my understanding. I do want to point out though that you make it sound very black and white, but every body is unique and has its own challenges. I have pcos and have tried the birth control, but increased my migraines including aura which can be dangerous. I tried metformin before anything else and it did not bring back my periods. I am still struggling to find answers, thus coming across this video, just wanted to point out that what works for one may not be the answer for all. 💗

I was diagnosed with PCOS and my dermatologist said I need to avoid sugat & dairy. I am taking spironolactone to aviod unwanted hair growth & it clears up my acnes too but the problem I’d noticed is everytime I eat lots sweets, candy, chocolates or anything that is sweet and drink latte everyday my ances are poping up again & again. So avoid sugar & dairy.
