I currently use the first gen. Echo dot coupled to my audio sound system for max range, but am interested in the Homepod minis for pairing in another room. Your comparison demo is the best so far of what I’ve seen on other tech channels. Many thanks for focusing exclusively on sound rather than Siri integration as most others have.
*I like the old style Echo Dot because it's small also **Newest.Technology**, gives out decent sound and doesn't take up a lot of shelf space if you want to put it on beam in the workshop or shed.*
In England , we have to pay £99 for a nice mini Homepod , which includes a small charger, and the cable. That £99 includes the government's 20% Value Added Tax. So at the current exchange rate, the cost is about the same on either side of the Atlantic. .
The original HomePod is the way to go as far as sound quality. When I heard that they were going to discontinue selling the original, I went and bought another to pair as stereo and all I have to say is that the sound with both paired is AMAZING!!!
I own 2 HomePod minis and for their size they sound REALLY good. And what I love about the homepods is how it fits in with the furniture in my room as the standard HomePod just stands out too much
@Bswag Swag Where do you find one sold new? And does anyone know if they have mentioned whether they will continue support it with software for a while?
I think buying two mini’s make more sense irregardless of the price. With two you actually get stereo separation and / or option to fill the room better.

Unfortunately all I can do is turn on/off Bose. It doesn't support volume or changing channels, but I believe that is due to the particular speaker I have.... Worth getting if you already have other devices to use it with... I don't sit around and ask Alexa questions much so that doesn't really matter to me....
I’m only going to add one Mini--its On order, due first week in Dec. Love my stereo original Homepods and use a cheapie Echo Dot in BR now primarily for radio, occasionally for music at. night but music is pretty poor on Dot-anxious to replace it.

Even through my ipad pro I can listen to multiple frequencies, while the minis paired together maybe sounded louder, the best sound quality still came from the big HomePod
This really is the best tech channel on TH-cam. Always good analysis and balanced opinion. The stuff they did on the new M1 Macs was excellent and helped me choose the right model for me.
It seems to me that these are almost two different products entirely. The OG HomePod is more of an audio product with some smart capabilities, whereas the Mini is smart home speaker with decent audio
@@soberanisfam1323 I don’t get this claim. I have an Echo speaker and a HomePod and I find Siri and Alexa to be pretty much on par with one another. What is so much better about Alexa compared to Siri? I can’t seem to find anything she’s that much better at.

And I thought the original HomePod sounded amazing! That Mini sounds amazing, especially for its size. Of course the regular HomePod sounds the best, but the Minis are still incredible.
One Homepod is good for its size. Two stereo paired Homepods once they tune to each other and the room is much more impressive. Minis are ok for their size but homepods have much more detailed sound.
I prefer the Mini’s sound, especially in pairs. It may not have the overall slam of the HomePod but the Mini’s seem more “balanced”. No one frequency range dominated over another like I heard in the HomePod. As long as you’re not trying the blast the Mini’s, I think they’re better for a more even and subtle sound while still giving you body and substance.
I just got my HomePod Mini and had the same conclusions as you. The Mini surprised me at how good it sounds. But I’d still pick a single Original HomePod over 2 Mini’s if I had to choose.
I think mini is faster then old one and he has vid comparing the 3 he rates alexa then google the siri for smart home assistant. Audio goes to homepod.
Good comparison. Loving the constant stream of Apple Goodness coming from here, keep up the good work guys! Mini’s, especially is stereo sound pretty good for their size. But the HomePod OG is a league of it’s own, it just sounds so much fuller and dynamic. Here in India, they (HomePod OG) just officially launched 4 months ago and retail at around $220 (After Discount Offers). Needless to say I got one. The moment I heard the sound coming out of One HomePod, I became a believer, like WOW! And the next day I ordered another one to create a pair, and I’m speechless. The sound is so crisp, filling and dynamic. The base has that ooomph factor and yet the highs are never sacrificed. You get to notice instruments in songs you’ve been listening for years. In India, The Minis have been priced around $140. Considering only a $80 price difference between Mini’s and OG, I suggest all Indian users to go for the HomePod.
Thanks for the honesty, here in the states it (Homepod OG) still retails @ $500 (average). I can't bring myself to get the mini because I feel like regardless of what anyone says i'll be sacrificing sounds quality (mainly lows/bass) but the homepod (og) is too damn expensive! lol So i think i'll keep my current setup echo plus & echo subwoofer which sound amazing but I love everything apple.
I have a pair of Mini’s as well in my bedroom. They are really good for their size, with very crisp vocals. But, a pair of mini’s is good for either chill/casual listening in a bed room, pod-casts, or on a work table as a substitute for laptop speakers. Not even close to a dedicated setup with a subwoofer. Your decision is correct and wait for Apple to launch the next BIG Home-Pod. BTW, if you have a lot of cash to burn, the Sony HT-A9 is simply phenomenal! Take care man!

Thanks - I just picked up a Homepod pair as a Christmas present to myself! and am blown away by the sound quality. I was thinking of getting a Mini pair too for my bedroom - you just convinced me.
Hi tony i have them both. Although I love how the Mbp speakers sound, the mini does sound good enough to have it too. It has more range, especially bass compared to the mbp. It also fills a room better and it’s perfect for listening to podcasts or any voice focused audio. It’s also very light, so you can take it anywhere.
The HomePod sounds much better to be honest. I coudnt use it last week because of the WiFi, and only could use the MBP I almost went crazy because the sound is not as good.
For HomePod mini. I recommend putting it in a corner of the room, it sounds deeper and floods the room with a much larger amount of the music or sound.
The thing I'm most curious about is the 'room filling' sound. When you walk away and move around a space, does the bigger homepod feel like sound is bouncing off the walls, and the mini's significantly more directional?
I have 4 HomePod Minis and 7 HomePods and with the HomePods Mini focus not being quite as much on sound quality as the HomePod the sound from one HomePod is for sure more full and overall higher quality/fidelity than a pair of HomePod Minis. I feel the audio quality correlates directly to the price...with the HomePod Mini being about a third as good as the HomePod. My preference of course, but I’ve asked two other people what they thought and they felt about the same after hearing them.
I bought the regular HomePod while living in an apartment and had to return it because the bass was way high and there’s no way I wasn’t going to bother my neighbors, even with it turned pretty low. The bass is not adjustable, and it is intense. I’ve had the mini’s for a week and in my opinion the sound is flawless, perfect amount of bass, and they get super loud. I have them in different rooms and during the day I can keep them at a low(ish) volume and when I walk around the house it just feels seamless. I know you can do that with the big one too, but the rumbling bass is too much. Especially if you live somewhere where you share walls or a floor/ceiling with others.
I’ve got a pair of both and when you hear the original Homepods in stereo 😳 money well spent. The minis don’t sound bad at all and for a quieter environment the minis would be the way to go
First test, the HomePod sounded fuller - you could tell the difference. For the second track with the two minis, for a lot of the song they were very close. But when the bass went up, the HomePod definitely beat the minis.
But what I am looking for is two pods with second versions vs 6 mini ponds basically I am comparing at same price point. My though if I want to use 6 mini pods vs 2 pods in pair. For a home theater how 2 pods with Apple TV how is the experience. Request to do a video
Interesting comparison but viewing on a MacBook Pro 13" couldn't really hear the difference that much so have to rely on your thoughts. To be honest, unless your a hifi enthusiast, save the money as the HomePod mini will be fine and if you are that Hifi enthusiast, Im not sure you would be buying the HomePod. or HomePod mini As good as they are, there are better options out there for pure sound quality. It's more of a compromise between sound, size and functionality with internet features?
The sound is better on the big one, but the smart speaker features are different? I was about to buy the homepod when apple announced the mini with new features including new chip... Can you please make a video comparing the smart speaker features?...
Ngl the original HomePod is the best sounding Bluetooth, smart speaker I’ve heard. The mini’s do a great job they just lack some separation for better detail in each frequency band
Listening to my mini right now. I was tricked into buying it over the summer when I ordered an iPad Pro and didn't realize Apple had tacked on a Mini by default! I threw it in the closet in disgust. But now I'm listening to it and it does sound pretty good considering it's so small and it's only one speaker. So fingers crossed I will be blown away by the stereo pair of the new full sized HomePods arriving Friday!
Max, your videos are the best! You are one of the very few HONEST people reviewing tech. I am for sure getting a pair of the minis for my little sis for Christmas.
I have two HomePod stereo pairs: two Minis in the bedroom on either side of the bed and two big ones attached to the AppleTV 4k. No contest in this context. For bedroom use the Mini pair is quite OK.
Bought two minis... To add to the Two full size HomePods. They are far cheaper, and yes, for a smaller room, but excellent to extend the full size HomePod mini to a bedroom, or kitchen...in smaller rooms. Make sure you download all the latest software updates, so they all play nice together.... or you will be briefly disappointed. There are a few software issues that i expect will be addressed, so that they all work a little better....together, all four of them. AirPlay everywhere,.... Wonderful ! 💕
Would adding two HomePod minis to my bedroom be a nice setup with me already having one standard HomePod? I’d like a bit of stereo separation and love the size and look of these and the integration with airplay.
The mini’s sound great, but you just can’t touch the clarity and deep punch of the HomePod. If you could afford a single HomePod, do it. I absolutely love my HomePod, but I’m interested in a Mini for the office.
I have a stereo pair of regular homepods in my bedroom. If it's affordable, I highly recommend that for anyone because it sounds incredible. With the minis, I'm glad to hear they sound great, as I haven't heard them yet.
Ikr, having a pair of homepods(or one in the bathrooms) in every room just makes things so much easier, like no more going to the kitchen if you forgot to turn off the lights lol
I hope they update the regular HomePod within a year or two. Even better sound with all the new and advanced features of the Minis + a U1 chip, etc etc. It’s gonna be awesome. Also I don’t know if it can already but can it sync up with the Minis as well to play better stereo sound or it just just limited to a pair of minis nearby? I would kill for a 1+2 setup of a HomePod and Minis playing music in the living room.
That's a hard question, it completely depends on your needs! If you need an Apple Pencil for your work or creativity, go for that. If not, then it's more a question of which you will enjoy most: great speakers for music, or a stylus?
thank you for the video. I picked up my first HomePod few months ago on sale at best buy for $199. I guess I keep my eye for another HomePod sale this coming up Holiday season.

It’s the review exactly what I was looking for. Thank you so much. I was leaning to buy 2 minis but after watching it I’d go for homepod 2nd
The comparison video I've been waiting for since Apple announced the HomePod Mini!
I have two HomePod stereo pairs: two Minis in the bedroom on either side of the bed and two big ones attached to the AppleTV 4k. No contest in this context. For bedroom use the Mini pair is quite OK.
Got mine Monday. It’s amazing 😭 love it
I can’t find any regular HomePods. 😕
I got my HomePod from Best Buy for $200 on sale. My best purchase for 2020. It sounds amazing.
Wonderful ! 💕
🔊They are both very good 🔊 speakers 🔊
Would adding two HomePod minis to my bedroom be a nice setup with me already having one standard HomePod? I’d like a bit of stereo separation and love the size and look of these and the integration with airplay.
The homepod mini is such a great deal!
Do the 3 of them connect together?
Can you connect to Spotify yet with the original HomePod? Plus you can’t connect to Bluetooth:(
Can we connect tow speakers to one device to get better sound output
im planing on getting this as a speaker for my computer ipad etc... can i switch bluetooth devices on it?
This is literally the BEST COMPARISON!!!!!!
@Max Tech Silly question, but can you pair a HomePod with the HomePod Mini(s)?
The mini’s sound great, but you just can’t touch the clarity and deep punch of the HomePod. If you could afford a single HomePod, do it. I absolutely love my HomePod, but I’m interested in a Mini for the office.
I love seeing his channel grow everyday
Compared to the Bose Soundlink Mini 2, what would sound better: Mini Soundlink 2 or HomePod Mini?
I have a stereo pair of regular homepods in my bedroom. If it's affordable, I highly recommend that for anyone because it sounds incredible. With the minis, I'm glad to hear they sound great, as I haven't heard them yet.
Ikr, having a pair of homepods(or one in the bathrooms) in every room just makes things so much easier, like no more going to the kitchen if you forgot to turn off the lights lol
Thay need to bring spatial audio when you have 4 homepod minis in a square
I hope they update the regular HomePod within a year or two. Even better sound with all the new and advanced features of the Minis + a U1 chip, etc etc. It’s gonna be awesome. Also I don’t know if it can already but can it sync up with the Minis as well to play better stereo sound or it just just limited to a pair of minis nearby? I would kill for a 1+2 setup of a HomePod and Minis playing music in the living room.
A very brief and short with clear tech elaborative explanation
Can you use the 3 at the same time? How is the sound in this case?
Finally i was found out great comparison video .. Thanks Dude
Plzz recommend me should i buy Apple Pencil 1 or homepod mini??.
That's a hard question, it completely depends on your needs! If you need an Apple Pencil for your work or creativity, go for that. If not, then it's more a question of which you will enjoy most: great speakers for music, or a stylus?
Could you test the HomePod Mini against the IKEA Symfonisk? Since they working the same ‚EcoSystem‘. That would be a great comparison
thank you for the video. I picked up my first HomePod few months ago on sale at best buy for $199. I guess I keep my eye for another HomePod sale this coming up Holiday season.
Waiting on the review HomePod mini vs Amazon echo stuck which to buy
Your videos are always more inclusive than other youtubers :)
GREAT review and now I have a plan for two Mini's.
BTW.....Cool projector schematic posters in the background!!
Glad I scooped two HomePods before they got discontinued the sound is great
Awesome video you explained thing so good can’t wait for the next one
