There’s only a train station, and some rail left there. I wouldn’t be surprised if people traveled to see the train, especially on the bottom rest of Mexico to see this historic moment. These people don’t have a sense of how big and gigantic these machines are and are unaware of the dangers getting too close. I hope so. Latin America will be THE region for freight rail growth this century, but the amount of land management for safety and asset protection is a huge obstacle. Transportation and industry would be a huge boost for living standards.

You know what would be nice? If you also included the footage of the 99 year old former NdeM engineer who not only got to see 2816 passing by but also ended up getting to meet the entire crew and get a close up look at the engine. I can only imagine the memories and happiness that this probably stirred up for him. Yep that's right good things happening in Mexico and with 2816 in Mexico!
Same incident happen at Henderson, Colorado in 2018 when a woman (Kelly Yarish) photographing got too close to the track and got struck killed by steam locomotive 844. This could happen anywhere when people get too excited and ignore safety measures...
Repply to the video creator its not only mexico but hey if something is wrong it SHOULD BE MEXICO right? Lol Not even offended because itspartially true. But let me guees if this was not a steam engine it would have a collision in the states
The creator of this video definitely emphasized the bad and left out the good. I saw so many great videos from Mexico about the train passing by. I saw good and bad. His eagerness to bash Mexico says a lot about him more than it does about Mexico.
@@maricelalaverde2536 Exactly! They only talked about the negative. Bad things happen in the U.S. too. I've seen many awesome positive videos of the CP 2816 traveling in Mexico! I'm glad that CPKC took 2816 down in mexico. What a historic epic event. All those people and YT creators criticizing about the mexico tour obviously have something against mexico.
Yeah. I’ve gone out to see 844 and 4014 a few times (here in the states, of course) and it’s crazy how people, railfans included, behave. People chasing alongside in their vehicles, passing one another in no passing zones, sometimes passing several vehicles in one go. People standing on the tracks. Some drunk guy (or just plain crazy) yelling at people trackside telling us we were all going to hell because we weren’t putting Jesus first. Just a few things I’ve seen . But yeah, let’s just focus on Mexico 🙄
Admittedly, as Mexicans, we’re reckless af, we train hop on freight trains to cross the border and either do get on board or die doing so. Our recklessness gets us into accidents. Seeing an operating steam locomotive isn’t a normal thing and hence, we got all “stirred” up. I get that yall are mad at CPKC for sending the tour into MX, and that’s fair. My only complaint is that local authorities should’ve done more to control crowds, but being the ones easily bribed by the cartels, they didn’t do bs. But all in all, condolences to the crew and the woman’s family.
Me parece absurdo asumir que los actos de otras personas desconocidas son responsabilidad tuya también. Tan simple como considerarte a ti mismo como individuo y no como colectivo.
They are not your brothers, they live in the same country as you, other Canadians are no more my "brothers" than Mexicans are, it shouldn't be any different the other way around.
I'm planning on chasing it through Missouri, but then I saw videos of hundreds of railfans hogging the small 2 lane Missouri roads, passing, driving recklessly, and getting pulled over left and right. People are SO stupid.
As a Mexican railway fan, it makes me angry to know that many people in our country are so stupid, risking their lives to take a damn selfie or trying to beat the train Stuff which is almost Impossible, anyway, those people are worth their lives.
I swear these comments show how most railfan’s don’t have common sense to do proper research and knowledge with stuff like this. I think a lot of people miss the point that the people of Mexico aren’t taught rail safety like they teach us here in the states and Canada. Rail safety isn’t enforced in Mexico, so most people down there don’t actually understand why standing to close is a bad idea. Or why train hoping on a moving train is kinda dangerous. Look at Ferromex train videos and see how many close calls there are with vehicles and people. And look at KCSM before CPKC, it also shared some similar issues with rail safety. I don’t think this will mean CP 2816 is going away or never running again, I think it’s a matter of better planning for Mexico given how different the safety logic is down there. It’s a learning experience for CPKC, so they’ll learn how to handle Mexico rail safety as the years progress. Now I’m not defending the idiots who stood way too close, but at least understand that logic there is different when it comes to safety. It shouldn’t come as a surprise that some issues happened while on its journey to Mexico City.
@TrainsInCartersville Yeah, CPKC In General Was An EXTREMELY BAD Idea As A Whole, As It's Going To Put The North American Railway Industry In An Unstable Postion, If Not DESTROY It. This Is Because If They Start Running Trains From Mexico City To Chicago, Toronto Or Montréal, All Of The Other Railroads Are Going To Complain And Then We'll Be Witnessing The Biggest Railway War In North American Railroading History. The STB, COMPLETELY OVERLOOKED, That Little Detail, When They Said It Was O.K. For Them To Merge And Should've Told Them To Withdrawl Mexico Before Giving The Greenlight. If KCS Didn't In Mexico, That Merger Would've Made COMPLETE Sense, Because Both CP And CN Would've Had Even Competition From Canada To The Gulf Coast.
People act like Mexico has the same societal norms as the US. Just look up any video on Ferromex and its a complete mad house. Granted the steam engine is probably drawing more, but pretty much everyone should have expected what happened to happen.
Im from Mexico and its not normal to see a steam train, so a lot of people were excited and there were also a lot of dumbasses doing their things there
I was expecting the crew to get kidnapped by the cartel by this point in the trip if I'm being completely 100% honest... Still kind of expecting it before they get back...
2:28 My parents are Mexican, I was born and raised in the States, but I occasionally watch Mexican news (TV Azteca, Telemundo, and Univision are Spanish-language MSM, believe it or not, and they have a lot of subsidiaries at the local level at cities and towns throughout Mexico). I watched a lot after someone sent me the uncensored video, and I wanted to hear as much of the story as possible. There was a TON of coverage about the fatality on local and national Mexican news, quite literally a ton. The news anchors and reporters were literally pleading with people to stay away from the tracks for the remainder of 2816's journey through Mexico as well as around trains in general.
General public apparently hasn’t seen steam in Mexico for a few generations as I understand. So it was a super exciting moment. Since CPKS probably won’t be able to be sued I hope they continue what they’re doing and just take a few precautions moving forward. Some of these people have never ever seen steam in the flesh so I can imagine all the excitement!
I live in Mexico. The problem is people have no experience with trains at all as very few run in most places. This is a case of being unaware of the danger. Its also not about common sense as cultural norms are not the sme
yes, the few right of way that exist here is EXTREMELY underutilized and the busiest right of way outside TM & linterocianico only sees 1-2 trains a day
U forgot to mention that 2816 got a little graffitti while in Mexico City XD. Am mexican and sadly I agree with this, organization, autorities and in general all the people are kinda, weird HAHA. Love my country but sometimes it's hard to deal with things like these happening here.
@@DaaYay and yet they forgot the part of the railroad that is most important to 2816(and Canadian Pacific itself)'s history... An area not run by cartels I'd like to add(British Columbia)

around 50+ years with no steam locos..., actually ... ... and passenger trains ceased operations in 1997.. so yeah :( .. it´s kind of a "novelty" for a huge amount of people.
Well... I wouldn't say it was a bad idea, those incidents happened because a lot of Mexican people aren't familiar and don't know about railway regulations. I live in Mexico but since I like railroads I'm aware of the dangers it can have being close to the railroad tracks. People need to venture and get stermly advice about railroad regulations.
I personally met the train master of 2816 while at Franklin Park. He told me he was going to switch with somebody else at Texas before the trip into Mexico. He told me a couple other neat things (such as 2816’s lubrication system is completely new), but man, I’m sure he was glad to get off at Texas. I feel bad for the crew. When I was there for to see 2816, people where generally respectful. The train master said they were all glad the weather was nice (it had rained the day before, and it was expected to continue). Now they’re going home with some of the worst experiences a person could have. The trip still isn’t done yet either. I hope the crew can find the help they need.
When they first announced 2816 was headed to Mexico, I had a feeling it wasn’t going to go well. That was also part of my motivation to see it going south, because of a joke I made with a few friends: If 2816 goes to Mexico, it won’t come back the same. It’s really sad to think that a harmless joke about Mexican railroads became a reality…
You know we could do public information bulletins to help teach people how dangerous it can be rather than gate keeping railing trips. These things aren’t as common in this scale in Mexico and it’s really a shame, this should be a learning opportunity more than anything.
Honestly, I would feel disgusted if they have to put a goofy ahh Ferromex SD70 in front of the Empress for protection terms. Btw I get a feeling that 2816 is gonna highball out of Mexico like the world has never seen before after staying in Mexico City. 😂
There’s a video on Instagram of it on its way back, they put the 7013 and the F units in front of it and they’re absolutely booking it back in the video
People climbing onto railcars for a bit higher up view, and then the train supposedly being tagged there, and everything listed in this video, it’s been horrible there. It’s so unfortunate that all that has happened.
It is unfortunate what happened in my country, people are very reckless and do not know the risks. Just as they also don't know how to respect rules. Mexico is not prepared for an event of this size, although it's hard for me to admit it
to some extent you're right but i it was the fault of cpkc for not coordinating whit local authorities. And i do really hope after CPKC 2816 Mexico tour dosen't make railfans and foamers racist against mexicans
Being uninformed is unbecoming. Please avoid ascribing prejudicial epithets. Public events like sport and athletic gatherings (rodeo, bull fights, cock fights, futbol, etc.) may not mesh with your slate of cultural norms. That's ok. But to launch an "R" bomb is no less a violation of "touching the third rail" than failing to correctly say, "Si, se puede"".
In the UK our railways are fenced off and I'm always slightly surprised that other countries don't do this. Sure we have trespassing incidents but not things like this! Absolutely horrible that a tragedy occurred.
As an American myself, I can pretty much agree because a lot of people make complete boneheaded morons out of themselves by not putting up fences so that trains can pass without decapitating alive actual people and other living and sentient things and affecting the crews driving the engine and its train being pulled by the engine. And some people, even in this country and Mexico, choose to be oblivious and ignorant because common safety is so old school.
In Mexico, the only true railways we have are cargo lines. All pasanger related rail traffic (subway, light rail, and others) do have proper security measures so cars or people don't enter the rails.

My understanding is that 2816 will not be returning to Mexico. After it returns to Canada, it is being retired. Too expensive to keep these old steam locomotives operational, I guess.
They restored it and ran it on the mainline... to Mexico. One of the worst decisions out there. Next time CPKC, bring a safety train there give the people of Mexico some rail safety there for crying out loud.
That's so funny, by the fact that almost every little but important city in México has a steam train in there train museum's. There is a steam train in Queretaro city, one in Leon Guanajuato, one in Merida Yucatan, and one i forgot in wich city is located but remember in the museum they said It was 100% Made there by mexicans and is in perfect conditions, i remember it's number 296
Soy mexicano and the truth is that it was a very bad idea since here in Mexico there is not much railway culture so to speak. Literally, shootings were happening and they found bodies somewhere when the Empress was in CDMX and the railway infrastructure in Mexico is not the best that can be expected except in the south where I live. since there is a project called Tren Maya that took 4 years to build but already has 8 active lines The result of the elections is practically new, they are going to implement 8 new railway lines to the country but that may take another 4 years. Saludos 🖐
we've seen what happens when normal locomotives go to mexico, why the fuck would they think it's a good idea to send an ENTIRE STEAM LOCO WITH F UNITS.
CN hammers in safety pretty hard, if we tried taking a train down the tracks with that many people close by we wouldn't be able to move for hours, it's CN policy to place the train into emergency when there are unauthorized personnel foul of the tracks as it affects the safety of the movement and others around it. CROR rule 14f would be constantly enacted (a short succession of bursts from the whistle to warn animals or people that a train is approaching them) the guys on that CP train have my condolences.
I understand what happened in Mexico, what people did was regrettable. Being Mexican, I understand what happened when I went to the Emperatriz 2816 event, people were placing coins on the roads. The thing about the woman who was hit by the train just to take a selfie was unfortunate and here in Mexico there are no longer steam locomotives, that's why people were excited to see her doing acts that she shouldn't have done, like getting on the locomotive, graffiti in it and taking pictures too close to the train tracks. 😔
Ironically enough I think this is because Mexico is a freer country than Canada but sometimes that translates into them not doing anything in scenarios like these. In Canada sitting on the railroad tracks like that would get you arrested they might have to ignore every other call for more serious crime they could have possibly gotten that day but theyll keep the tracks clear.
"Never let BNSF1458 talk about Mexico again 🗣️🔥" My serious proposal here. Seems to be that the video just wants to mark the fault of security and common sense only happens in Mexico while rail incidents like those described have happened all around the world.

This is not CPKC's fault. This is the consequence of someone who cant use common sense. She knew the risks when she walked towards the tracks and she paid the price. Hopefully 2816 returns to Canada safely and without any issues.

Since discovering the restoration of CP 2816 Empress steam locomotive and train tour of CAN, US, and recently into Mexico. I've been learning that Canadian Pacific has long history in rail, ships, and airplanes. (Related is Union Pacific 4014 Big Boy steam locomotive restoration. Big Boy is about 14 years younger than CP 2816. I've only seen steam engines in old movies so learning about their revival is very special.) Yes, CPKC needs to be purged.

The creator of this video definitely emphasized the bad and left out the good. I saw so many great videos from Mexico about the train passing by. I saw good and bad. His eagerness to bash Mexico says a lot about him more than it does about Mexico.

Mark Twain once said "the more I know about people, the more I love my dog." In instances like this, I can see why he thought that
Admittedly, as Mexicans, we’re reckless af, we train hop on freight trains to cross the border and either do get on board or die doing so.
As a Mexican, I feel embarrassed by the actions of my other brothers, I am very sorry.

CPKC as a whole is a Mistake.
People act like Mexico has the same societal norms as the US. Just look up any video on Ferromex and its a complete mad house. Granted the steam engine is probably drawing more, but pretty much everyone should have expected what happened to happen.

It was a bad idea because that stuff would happen
If some people chose to play some dumb games with 2816 when it was still running around America, then the dumb games would be more than doubled once 2816 hit mexico, in which those mfs usually don't see that kind of thing running around their country anyway, which brings the dumb factor up even more. Not trying to sound like a, you know, boomer that's somebow defending the mexicans,
but that's just how i see it. But i do agree that the blame shouldn't be put on us AMERICAN railfans 💀
Hey, what camera do you use for your zoom out pan shots?
