my favorite is the one that MSI doesn't make: the Unify (or Unify-X). No idea why it exists for every other Intel chipset but not the Z790. The Carbon is a great board but I'm over RGB already (have the Z690 Carbon: it's an excellent board).

I have the Asus Z790 Hero with a 13900K. Probably overkill but I use my PC for many hours every day, not worth saving 200 Eur on something so important to me.
i think mine is the z790 pro a wifi d4 by msi, its equipped nicely with usb ports, got good vrms and cooling capabilities for a rather "low" price if you compare it to other mainboards in the midrange to higher end range
Bear in mind that if you put a gen 5 ssd in the gen 5 m.2 slot the graphics card will reduce to 8x speed. This is a limitation of the CPU as they only got 16 gen 5 lanes. Also on that board with 5 m.2 slots only 4 can be populated, either the slot for gen 5 or gen 4 coming off the CPU. Both can't be populated. Another difference between z790 and b760 is the total number of pci-e lanes coming off the chipset. Z790 supports up to 20 whilst the b760 only 10(I think this correct) gen 4 lanes plus 8 gen 3 lanes for z790 and 4 for b760. A b760 board is not CPU overclockable, you are limited only to overclocking your memory. I believe you can fit a gen 5 ssd in a gen 4 m.2 slot, they are backwards compatible. It will just run at gen 4 speeds(then again who will notice the speed difference between 7000mb and 14,000mb read speeds?).
Streaming and video editing can be handled by specialised encode/decode media engine on most modern GPUs. So, CPU is not a big deal for those tasks. And for gaming 13600KF is more than good enough, imho. It looks like you are well set🙂👍

I put my 12900k in an ASUS prime z690 m How bad of a match is this? I overclock the 12900k but don’t know much about what makes a good VRM design or power stages as you mention these in the video. What should I be looking out for to know whether I should look for a different board? Temps are fine with the overclock, and I use a 360mm rad.
I think it should be fine if you use it for gaming. But if you throw a lot of CPU intensive tasks at it for prolonged periods of time then you may want to look into your system temperatures more. Don't look at CPU temperature. Check motherboard temperature instead. Software such as HWMONITOR by CPUID can provide that information as long as your motherboard has temperature sensors on VRM.
Oh, and I wouldn't say that you need another motherboard. Even if you find that VRM motherboard temperatures are too high then just go back to stock settings on your 12900K. 70-90C temperature is perfectly good. 90-100C is a maybe. Over 100C is not a good number.

Out of these two I'd definitely go with Z790M Aorus Elite AX. Gaming AC power delivery system looks way too weak to feed the 13900K. It is a very power-hungry CPU.

@@theivadim I noticed a huge difference when i switched from a MSI b760 gaming plus wifi to an MSI z790 carbon wifi with a i7 14700KF, higher scores in benchmark like 3k+ on r23 and better gaming experience too.. in b06 my clock speed kept fluctuating with the b760 but rock solid on the z790.

Yeah, it's good👍 This motherboard comes with two Gen 4 M.2 SSD slots so you can add more storage in the future. As for the RAM, I think it is fast enough. It'll definitely handle well any affordable DDR5-5600 or 6000 RAM I assume you've installed there. Don't forget to enter BIOS to double check that XMP profile has been enabled for the RAM to work at full advertised speed. That is the easiest thing to forget even when you are experienced PC builder.🙂

I don't think there are any B760 like that. You'll have to consider going for Z790 to get more white options. Z790 Taichi Carrara, NZXT N7, ROG Maximus APEX. Just to name a few.

@@theivadim the only reason im asking this? is because after owning an i7 9700k for 3 years using a b365 motherboard, i finally bought a z370 motherboard and tried to overclocked it, it didn't even took me an hour to kill my CPU after overclocking it to 5.0ghz at 1.34v..it just died. now im stuck with my old i5 9400 and the z370 board that killed my 9700k. instant regret.
I'm building this same setup for a friend at the moment as a Content creation build with ddr5, he isn't very tech savvy and will not be overclocking anything other than his memory. imo its not worth the price jump from B760 to Z760 for OC alone
