If I told you that I think she sounded even better live, outdoors here in Norway, would you think I'm crazy?? You wouldn't be the first😁 But I actually DO think so. That performance was her first time live on a stage since her performances on America's Got Talent in 2020, when she was 13 years old. as we all know, the pandemic put an effective halt to most everything. I believe she landed from LA that same morning, so I guess she MUST have had some level of jet lag. Another thing is the weather and the temperatures. The performance is from June 23 last year, and it wasn't particularly hot, and the wind was heavy. I guess she was used to much warmer weather in LA. Norway, the land of the vikings, isn't known for being a very warm country at all. She was wearing the same dress as in this studio recording, albeit we see it in color on her live, so to say that she was overly dressed for the occasion would be an exaggeration 🤣 Also take into consideration that the performance we get to see is her second in a row, as the producers weren't happy with the first take, due to the heavy wind conditions. So they pulled her closer to the main stage and gave her roughly two minutes before she had to do it all over again. One of the most demanding songs to sing ever written, and she sounds like THAT, on her second take in a row....Her breath control and stamina is on a whole different level than most, and she wasn't even 16,5 years old. I believe it will blow your mind again. She also did another performance on the beginning of the show (it is Norway's most popular summer music show, broadcast on national television. The show is called Allsang på grensen, which translates to Singalong at the border. The location of the venue is situated very close to the Swedish border) and I will link her performance of that one (Bohemian Rhapsody) in a reply to this comment. Truth be told, Whitney was not a jazz singer and therefore she couldn't be expected to bring forth the intricate, complicated vocals that Angelina is able to do as a true jazz singer, and especially one with as much power as Angelina is able to bring to the fore. To be this improvisational, a singer would need to have mastered all the facets of musicality that Angelina has perfected in her delivery and that is no small feat by anyone's standards. She has taken all the elements learned from Holiday and is able to weave them in a multi octave form that Billie was not able to do since she was a one octave singer who's forte was emotion laden penetration of the listener with the essence of gentleness that no other singer was able to match in the jazz genre. Angelina is a whole different animal, having no restrictions in whatever she wants to convey in a song. It's like having personal access to the whole of the universe, not just one segment of it.
