I was a music educator and jazz musician for over 40 years and my philosophy has always been that there is no such thing as "good" or "bad" music. It is entirely up to the ear of the beholder. People decide what they like or do not like based on their life experiences and societal influences. Think about when you were in high school. Most of your friends probably made music choices based on the popular music of the day and what the others in your circle decided was "good". No composers set out to make "bad" music. If it is not well received, it only means some people liked it and some people did not. The music of superstars who have multiple hit records and perform in front of thousands of people is not inherently "good". It just means that a whole lot of people prefer what they hear and how it makes them feel. Lisa, your reaction was very good. Haters are always going to hate just because your opinions don't match theirs. That's their problem. You are right, Angelina's roots are in jazz. Her family played all kinds of music as she was growing up and their was a lot of jazz influence. Like most children, she soaked it up like a sponge. The difference is, Angelina was born with a talent that only comes along maybe once in a generation or longer. Her natural talent combined with the musical influences growing up are what make her the prodigy she is. She is truly a force of nature. In all of my years of teaching, I had maybe two or three students who were obvious child prodigies. But they were nowhere near what Angelina has. Luckily, she has a family that is very protective of her and is allowing her to have as normal a childhood as possible. No managers, not record contracts and no hangers-on. Her day will come and she undoubtedly will be a superstar. Now that you have listened to her singing "I Have Nothing", go back to the other things you listened to before and I will bet you hear them with different ears. Then listen to the other 130+ videos she has on TH-cam. You may grow to love her as millions of people already do. I always say, this is Angelina's world. We just live in it!
I somehow missed this the other day when you posted it. I remember your first reaction to Angelina way back when you did it. You still have a LOT more to discover with Angelina. You asked for more information on her so here is a little bio so you can learn a little about her background and her kind and caring personality.... *Angelina Jordan* - Angelina Jordan was born Jan 10 2006 in Oslo, Norway. She is currently 14 - She began singing at the age of one and a half - At 2 or 3 she discovered Jazz through her grandmother and started studying all the greats from Jazz history with youtube videos. - *Why Angelina always sings barefoot* - When Angelina was 6 years old, she was traveling with her grandmother and met a poor girl with no shoes trying to make money on the streets. They talked for a while and discussed their dreams. It was cold and the girl had scars on her feet. Seeing this, Angelina took off her shoes and gave them to the girl. The girl thanked her and told Angelina she would pray for her every day. That day Angelina made a vow to always sing barefoot until all the children of the world could have shoes. To this day, whenever Angelina is performing in public, she sings barefoot as a way to remember that little girl and to remind us that there are less fortunate people in the world that could use our help. Angelina holds so true to this promise that she has sung outdoors in Norway, in december... barefoot. She has sung at a dinner with ex-pres Obama... barefoot. It was her that asked her mother to take her to Norways Got Talent, where she auditioned at 7 years old and went on to win the whole show at just 8 years old. - In an interview after the show, when asked what she was going to do with the prize money, the 8 year old replied, "I would like to give it to orphans that need clothes and shoes" - When Angelina was 9 years old she became the youngest published author in Norway, when she wrote a book about the story of why she doesn't wear shoes when she sings. She donated proceeds from the sales of the book to help children in need. - The reason you may not have heard of her is because her parents are very protective of her childhood. They do not want her to be thrust into stardom before she has a chance to grow up as a normal child, and finish her education. They allow her to do a few select shows (mainly private and charity events) with a couple public shows every year when she is out of school. Her mother said in an interview that they have turned down 90% of the offers that come in. I have heard they have turned down offers from many major record labels and even disney. - Angelina has covered more than 120 songs and over 65 artists in the last 6 years. She always selects and arranges the songs herself... everything ranging from old classic jazz to modern pop. She is able to change her voice to match any song she sings and make it her own. (she can cover Amy Winehouse and Lana del Rey like nobody else) - Angelina has collaborated with some very big names over the last few years... Quincy Jones, Mark Ronson, David Foster, Alan Walker and many more. All of which heard her and were blown away by her talent. - Angelina has written three of her own original songs: "What is Life", "Shield" and "Oslo". You definitely need to get her history. She is such a humble young lady. She even took the shoe off her own feet and gave them to a little homeless girl on the street , I believe she was only 6 at the time. She now always performs barefoot in honor all less fortunate children. I was never into jazz either, but she has changed my mind, but only for her. I just love her voice.

Great reaction, Angelina is the most versatile vocal artist I've seen in my entire life & I'm in my 70's. If you don't like jazz, try her country, blues, R & B, gospel, ballads, rock &, most recently, electronic dance music. She always does her own arrangements to make it her own & she emotes the lyrics better than anyone. I usually have an uncontrolled physiological response to her voice with goosebumps & she often makes me cry. I don't know why this happens & there is no other vocal artist that does that to me on a regular basis. Her voice is addicting & I have to listen to it every day. I gave you a thumbs up & subscribed in the hope you will do more of her performances. If you like Adele, you have to hear her cover of A Million Years Ago. It is unbelievably beautiful.

She's is a highly trained jazz singer. She'll never lose those skills and those instincts, no matter what kind of song she is singing. In she can sing virtually anything - always with respect but always with her voice, which is exceptional She's literally addictive. She's not more famous because she's a kid and she wants to stay that way and always maintain control over her output. And she certainly already is a celebrity, just not the Hollywood kind.

You are correct. There are "many" singers who can sing "all kinds" of music but Angelina is the only one who has mastered so many musical genres. Not liking Jazz is perfectly OK. Most of Angelina's early works are Jazz. However she did perform Nancy Sinatra's "Bang Bang" (Cher made the song famous in the US) in the semi-final of Norway's Got Talent that you might like. I believe she was 8 for that performance. My personal favorite is Lana Del Rey's "Born To Die".

Her core is jazz, but she dabbles in a lot of different genres. Note that she's wearing something Whitney might have worn. Angelina, as you have discovered, has a devoted fan base. But she has chosen (or was born to) go a jazz route. Not a bad thing but jazz has never had a "universal" popular following. There was shock about what happened to her on AGT. AGT is not a show just for singers. She competed against a variety of acts and her performance, though a pop song, was decidedly jazzy. Not everybody loves that genre. Still that performance reached far more people than she ever had before and she has the intelligence to make the best of that.
She is a powerhouse, and she's obviously nowhere near her prime yet. One does not have to care for a certain musical style to acknowledge a gift such as hers.

She loves jazz but she have sung many diffrent music genre but her jazz influence will always shine through her voice but she can adapt her voice to any kind of music genre. Angelina start listening to jazz when she was very little and loved it that’s why she sing much jazz but she also can sing other genres and she has coverd songs from adele , lana del ray ,Elvis presley, amy winehouse and done more modern like queen, John legend ,Michael Jackson and other more modern artists. She also have 5 original songs where she has wroted 3 original songs herself . She was in AGT Champions season 2 but she didn’t WIN but got to the finals. She first appeared on the show Norway got talent back in 2014 singing jazz at the age of 7 years old and she won Norway got talent at the age of 8 years old singing «Summertime « by George gershwin. She has been singing From the age of 1 1/2 years old. And i have been following her for 7 years now and she has about 125 coversongs behind and 5 original songs where she wrote three of the originals herself. She is know 14 years old and she is just getting better and better and she will become a legend singer in the future.

At her audition she did two Billy Holiday numbers, the second won was acapella. & at that age was STUNNING. She was born a jazz singer & I don,t think that influence will ever leave her. There are many different types of jazz, some types I am not a fan of at all like disconnected jazz is not for me. However, the more bluesy side of jazz I love, like: Feeling Good; Fly Me To The Moon; What A Difference A Day Makes; Somethings Got A Hold On Me. Most of the jazz Angelina sings soothes my soul. You might find you like jazz more than you thought if you give a few of these songs a try. Also, she has many other styles of singing. Not sure if you have heard the song Faded before it is a pop song by Alan Walker, a different singer sings the studio version, but he had a homecoming to Norway and did a concert and he had Angelina sing two of his songs (not jazz at all). Also, she did the vocals in an EDM dance song for some artist that asked her to do them called "Above the Water", she has original songs called "Shield" very Bond type of song, "What is Life" is a soft sweet jazz style about herself, and "Oslo" about her home town rather mystical. Of course, she has many covers to Adelle, Lana Del Ray, Elvis, and many more. But I will bet that someday you will even like her jazz, try a few of the softer ones. Try "What Is Life"

I was a music educator and jazz musician for over 40 years and my philosophy has always been that there is no such thing as "good" or "bad" music. It is entirely up to the ear of the beholder. People decide what they like or do not like based on their life experiences and societal influences. Think about when you were in high school. Most of your friends probably made music choices based on the popular music of the day and what the others in your circle decided was "good". No composers set out to make "bad" music. If it is not well received, it only means some people liked it and some people did not. The music of superstars who have multiple hit records and perform in front of thousands of people is not inherently "good". It just means that a whole lot of people prefer what they hear and how it makes them feel. Lisa, your reaction was very good. Haters are always going to hate just because your opinions don't match theirs. That's their problem. You are right, Angelina's roots are in jazz. Her family played all kinds of music as she was growing up and their was a lot of jazz influence. Like most children, she soaked it up like a sponge. The difference is, Angelina was born with a talent that only comes along maybe once in a generation or longer. Her natural talent combined with the musical influences growing up are what make her the prodigy she is. She is truly a force of nature. In all of my years of teaching, I had maybe two or three students who were obvious child prodigies. But they were nowhere near what Angelina has. Luckily, she has a family that is very protective of her and is allowing her to have as normal a childhood as possible. No managers, not record contracts and no hangers-on. Her day will come and she undoubtedly will be a superstar. Now that you have listened to her singing "I Have Nothing", go back to the other things you listened to before and I will bet you hear them with different ears. - At 2 or 3 she discovered Jazz through her grandmother and started studying all the greats from Jazz history with youtube videos.
- *Why Angelina always sings barefoot* - When Angelina was 6 years old, she was traveling with her grandmother and met a poor girl with no shoes trying to make money on the streets. They talked for a while and discussed their dreams. It was cold and the girl had scars on her feet. Seeing this, Angelina took off her shoes and gave them to the girl. The girl thanked her and told Angelina she would pray for her every day. That day Angelina made a vow to always sing barefoot until all the children of the world could have shoes. To this day, whenever Angelina is performing in public, she sings barefoot as a way to remember that little girl and to remind us that there are less fortunate people in the world that could use our help.
Angelina holds so true to this promise that she has sung outdoors in Norway, in december... barefoot. She has sung at a dinner with ex-pres Obama... barefoot. She went on AGT (possibly the biggest stage in the world)...bare foot. She made a promise at 6 years old, and has stuck strong to it for years. That takes a special kind of person.
- She has always been the driving force behind her own singing career. It was her that asked her mother to take her to Norways Got Talent, where she auditioned at 7 years old and went on to win the whole show at just 8 years old.
- In an interview after the show, when asked what she was going to do with the prize money, the 8 year old replied, "I would like to give it to orphans that need clothes and shoes"
- When Angelina was 9 years old she became the youngest published author in Norway, when she wrote a book about the story of why she doesn't wear shoes when she sings. She donated proceeds from the sales of the book to help children in need.
- The reason you may not have heard of her is because her parents are very protective of her childhood. They do not want her to be thrust into stardom before she has a chance to grow up as a normal child, and finish her education. They allow her to do a few select shows (mainly private and charity events) with a couple public shows every year when she is out of school. Her mother said in an interview that they have turned down 90% of the offers that come in. I have heard they have turned down offers from many major record labels and even disney.
- Angelina has covered more than 120 songs and over 65 artists in the last 6 years. She always selects and arranges the songs herself... everything ranging from old classic jazz to modern pop. She is able to change her voice to match any song she sings and make it her own. (she can cover Amy Winehouse and Lana del Rey like nobody else)
- Angelina has collaborated with some very big names over the last few years... Quincy Jones, Mark Ronson, David Foster, Alan Walker and many more. All of which heard her and were blown away by her talent.

In summary, Angelina Jordan is destined to be one of the greatest singers to have ever lived. This is just my opinion, but if you listen closely to any of her stuff you will hear the greatness. She sings with a natural style. There is no acting, no showing off, there are no unnecessary runs, or big belty notes just for the purpose of saying "hey look at me sing". She once said "when I sing I go into a magical world in my head", and you can always hear the results of that. When Angelina sings it is pure soul, pure emotion, pure music.

Angelina started singing at the age of 18 month. She was influenced by her grandmother who listened to jazz music. She was allowed to explore different genre of music on TH-cam. At the age of six and while visiting a third world country with her parents, she met a young street vendor girl who was shoeless. After chatting with her for a while and without prompting from her parents she removed her shoes and gave them to the orphaned girl. She vowed ever since to always perform barefoot in public to remind herself and all of us of the needy children around the world. To date she has raised more than 21 million euros for several charities. She auditioned for Norway Got talent at the age of 7 and won by a landslide. (She got 46% of the votes while the other 9 contestants combined got 54% of the votes). She performed at the Nobel Peace prize concert at the age of 8. Her first audition on Norway's Got Talent was a Billie Holiday cover of Gloomy Sunday. She was seven years old and went on to win the season. Jazz is her primary background and her voice is perfect for that venue. Her parents want her to finish school before she really goes 'Big Time' but that' hard to avoid. For now they're just taking it one day at a time.

You definitely need to get her history. She is such a humble young lady. She even took the shoe off her own feet and gave them to a little homeless girl on the street , I believe she was only 6 at the time. Great reaction, Angelina is the most versatile vocal artist I've seen in my entire life & I'm in my 70's. If you don't like jazz, try her country, blues, R & B, gospel, ballads, rock &, most recently, electronic dance music. She always does her own arrangements to make it her own & she emotes the lyrics better than anyone. I usually have an uncontrolled physiological response to her voice with goosebumps & she often makes me cry. I don't know why this happens & there is no other vocal artist that does that to me on a regular basis. Her voice is addicting & I have to listen to it every day. I have heard a great many outstanding child singers, but Angelina stands heads about them all. Angelina’s is a genius level talent. Her vocal versatility is unequaled. She's is a highly trained jazz singer. She'll never lose those skills and those instincts, no matter what kind of song she is singing. In she can sing virtually anything - always with respect but always with her voice, which is exceptional She's literally addictive. She's not more famous because she's a kid and she wants to stay that way and always maintain control over her output. And she certainly already is a celebrity, just not the Hollywood kind.

You are correct. There are "many" singers who can sing "all kinds" of music but Angelina is the only one who has mastered so many musical genres. In her short career of just over six years she has sung Blues, Country, Disco, Jazz, Pop, R&B and Soul, Rock and EDM, and covered songs by over 80 famous singers. What is more, every song she has performed has her unique stamp on it, for - while respecting the original she arranges it to take ownership.

Not liking Jazz is perfectly OK. Most of Angelina's early works are Jazz. However she did perform Nancy Sinatra's "Bang Bang" (Cher made the song famous in the US) in the semi-final of Norway's Got Talent that you might like. I believe she was 8 for that performance. My personal favorite is Lana Del Rey's "Born To Die".

Her core is jazz, but she dabbles in a lot of different genres. Note that she's wearing something Whitney might have worn. Maybe it's just my imagination, but I think she chooses outfits and vocal styles to suit whatever song she sings. Not always, but when she can. Angelina, as you have discovered, has a devoted fan base. But she has chosen (or was born to) go a jazz route. Not a bad thing but jazz has never had a "universal" popular following. There was shock about what happened to her on AGT. AGT is not a show just for singers. She competed against a variety of acts and her performance, though a pop song, was decidedly jazzy. Not everybody loves that genre. Still that performance reached far more people than she ever had before and she has the intelligence to make the best of that.

She loves jazz but she have sung many diffrent music genre but her jazz influence will always shine through her voice but she can adapt her voice to any kind of music genre. Angelina start listening to jazz when she was very little and loved it that’s why she sing much jazz but she also can sing other genres and she has coverd songs from adele , lana del ray ,Elvis presley, amy winehouse and done more modern like queen, John legend ,Michael Jackson and other more modern artists. She also have 5 original songs where she has wroted 3 original songs herself . She was in AGT Champions season 2 but she didn’t WIN but got to the finals. She first appeared on the show Norway got talent back in 2014 singing jazz at the age of 7 years old and she won Norway got talent at the age of 8 years old singing «Summertime « by George gershwin. She has been singing From the age of 1 1/2 years old. And i have been following her for 7 years now and she has about 125 coversongs behind and 5 original songs where she wrote three of the originals herself. Hi you are not alone in overestimating her age. She is only 13, She entered Norway,s got talent age 7 & she was 8 when she won. At her audition she did two Billy Holiday numbers, the second won was acapella. & at that age was STUNNING. She was born a jazz singer & I don,t think that influence will ever leave her. There are many different types of jazz, some types I am not a fan of at all like disconnected jazz is not for me. However, the more bluesy side of jazz I love, like: Feeling Good; Fly Me To The Moon; What A Difference A Day Makes; Somethings Got A Hold On Me. Most of the jazz Angelina sings soothes my soul. You might find you like jazz more than you thought if you give a few of these songs a try. Also, she has many other styles of singing. Not sure if you have heard the song Faded before it is a pop song by Alan Walker, a different singer sings the studio version, but he had a homecoming to Norway and did a concert and he had Angelina sing two of his songs (not jazz at all). Also, she did the vocals in an EDM dance song for some artist that asked her to do them called "Above the Water", she has original songs called "Shield" very Bond type of song, "What is Life" is a soft sweet jazz style about herself, and "Oslo" about her home town rather mystical. Of course, she has many covers to Adelle, Lana Del Ray, Elvis, and many more. But I will bet that someday you will even like her jazz, try a few of the softer ones. Try "What Is Life"
