    After watching a few 'How Eyeglasses are Made' videos on TH-cam today, I can definitely say that this one was the most informative of the bunch.

    Very informative, I'm a software developer and Its facinating to see where all my money went on all 23 pairs of my various glasses I've owned. I sincerely have an all new profound respect for those involved in the process of manufacturing them.

    It's amazing how this video isn't even all that old and this is all done by machines now. You should watch the how its made version in the side bar, pretty interesting.

    For ppl who have to wait a long time u are probably buying from a big chain store...imagine 200 stores and one big lab to service them all... Go with a local store with built in lab if u need it quick

  • @cigzplz
    @cigzplz 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    from there they double check the scrip and send it off. the first half takes awhile but thats done before and they have already in stock the basic bases that people use. from there you just service and finish it which is why lensecrafters and eyemart get get it done so fast

    This video makes it seems much more crazy than it is, all that lab work is really done by one person in a back room within the office. Find a good optician with an in house lab for the best service.

    probably because your optician you go to has a lab upstairs, that you have a fairly common prescription (i.e. not one that's really really strong) and that you've never ordered a set of frames that require especially big or small lenses :D - you're lucky - I have messed up eyes and I wear big glasses - they always take forever to come in :P

    remarkable. im curious though if in the next 20-30 years will glasses become more about fashion and less about the biological benefits due to the ever-advancing lasereye technology, and various other corrective treatments.
    i have spoken to a car mechanic and he says that every year it gets harder and harder to fix cars as their technology gets more complex and specialised. he really believes that in the next 2 decades his profession won't be necessary. do optometrists feel the same?

    I buy mine at the pharmacy ,they cost $20 and work just fine ,i have my eyes checked every 10 years but don't bother with their expensive lenses i ask for the correction # and i'm off the the pharmacy.

      SMH ... you may think your eyes are fine using crap from a pharmacy but the chances are you are doing long term damage to your eyes slowly but surely...

  • @cigzplz

    whew ok, iv'e been making glasses for 5 years now and i have to say, they really complicate things. the entire first minute and a half is all wholesale done. made in mass amounts and shipped off to other places. "labs" are what lensecrafters and eyemart have. from there everything is even more simple. you just ground it down to what the computer told you to and send it to what they call "finish" side. there they check your glasses basic scrip, shape it down to the frame from the edger.

  • @FrankaDith
    @FrankaDith 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    A lot of that is bull shit they are all corrective glasses, they just pick the one you need of the line ,you can buy the same thing at you drug store,one,s you know what level to correct realy all you gotta do is try some on till they fix your problem.

      Sad but in fact true. This video was shot in Australia over 10 years ago just before they move this plant to China. Their lenses are in fact now Chinese made.
