"Yo mate what up welcome to another lawn tip vid" so good to see you out there still going at it with the kids hanging out they are super lucky this is your job they get to spend so much time with you outside not just in front of a screen or only seeing dad when he rolls up at 6pm after work lucky kids 👍👍
Me and my wife's first baby girl is just starting to roll/crawl around on her own. The patience and perseverance you had while mowing that green sent chills down my dad-spine. Great vid as always
Bobby is very cautious compared to the rest of my kids, not sure if it’s because he’s the youngest or just a personality trait. Either way, I kept an eye on him constantly
Wow that's coming along nicely...amazing watching the difference each week is making at the moment, can't wait to see it fill in completely...is gonna be one green green and nice n even/flat...awesome work Ben!!!!
A leaf blower is good for removing dew/surface water on the grass ready for mowing etc. I use a backpack blower to get my lawns cut when the weather isnt playing ball.
Awesome to see it filling in so quickly. I sowed a bent green at home in November and it took about 3 months for it to completely fill in and get it now down to 6mm. Great work
Coming along good. The bentgrass will be fine in your winters. It does just fine here in Saskatchewan Canada. We get temps avg -20c down into -35c , and snow cover from November to April. As long as it drains well, and you run a good fungicide program ..your winters will be a breeze.
I have lived in North Carolina all my life and grew up playing on bent grass greens . They did great but struggled through the hot days in summer . About 10 years ago the discovery of a hybrid Bermuda which had all the advantages of Bermuda but without the extreme grain you had prior . Slowly many of the courses around here have change over to this new strain of Bermuda . The only problem now is the speeds of these greens can get so fast that things can get a little out of hand .
Yeah lots of experience with bent luckily from when I was on the golf course. Fungicide is a must due to fusarium. It does slow down in winter though. Frosts hit it hard and we only used to cut twice a week in winter.
@@LawnTips How often did you have to cut the bent in summer. In QLD (north brisbane) and thinking of over-sowing my hybrid bermuda tennis court with bent this winter.
Hi Ben. I'm in Cape Town and I'm redoing my golfgreen on my farm. What type of Bermuda did you use for your green at your old house? I had Bent, but it struggles in the summer as we get a lot of wind and almost no rain from Okt to Feb/March. Keep up the good work. Love your channel.
Mate please try some tackifier for those washouts. I use soillynx by Clearflow in Canada but since it’s not a pesticide at all (completely non toxic actually) you should be able to find something similar. It works wonders for keeping soil and seed in place during germination.
Been waiting so long (couple days) to hear "Yo Mate! Welcome to another lawn tips vid." Would love to see ASMR style mowing videos on both the greens and the rough.
What's the theory around regular top dressing (dusting) make it fill in? Does dusting it over the top of bare patches promote growth by making it try and push through the sand again? But how does it make it grow sideways thicken up? I still have some bare patches in my lawn after scarify and top dress with sand. I have over seeded those areas are you saying it's better to continually dust those areas?
@@shaunray6660 I actually have KBG and RYE. There are only a few bare spots still and it is closing in on its itself but maybe I do another dusting and bit more seed.
It’s great to see the little scamps following you around. Defs need a few smaller versions of tools for them to help with. (In b4 child labour comments)
When spraying in 2 directions do you double the product amount or just double the water? Say the product was 100ml per 100sqm and 4L water to cover your area would you put 200ml per 100sqm in with 8L or just the 100ml with 8L?
@@shaunray6660 yeah...nah....you're only blowing the droplets, you're not blowing into the subsurface....the angle of the blower needs to be pretty level, to maximize the clearing ability.
In 3 more weeks or 4 I forget old the seed is but once it reaches 6 to 8 weeks old you can use a growth regulator to help creep the grass even more for the edges especially or whenever time after that.

You should put a rain gage by the green, 100 ft or so away this will let you know how much is going in especially during summer since 1 to 1.5 inches is recommended per week of water for bentgrass greens. I aim for .5 to 1 inch to keel greens faster and only water once per week so you get a better soaking so roots grow deeper not shorter...this is for mature greens not seeded and growing in for anyone reading
Remember you should alter your cutting path by 45 degrees each day or time you mow. This helps best with less compaction and makes the bentgrass or any turf creep together better and help from any grain issues from forming like you see with Bermuda greens. These newer super bents have had issues with grain patterns forming in greens from time to time but most likely this is poor maintenance, from mowing the same way, not verticutting and so on
Mate, guarantee by the time hes finished itll look superb..better than most courses. Rack off with your grain pattern shit, noone cares, this aint augusta with million dollar budgets..although hes goina have it looking pretty damn close for sure

Why do you not mow with the dew on the green? It doesn't hurt the mower or turf, every golf course does it that way, we even water greens if there is nondew from it being windy
Hey mate, I think you need to start your own channel. Lots of comments. I’m a qualified greenkeeper and am super aware of everything you mention. Plus, not mowing when Dewey cause it picks up too much sand on the rear roller cause the green isn’t filled in
My question to you is..why when under no strict schedules and time contraints, having to avoid players etc, why not wait till its dry? Save making a mess of the mower, mess of ya boots, and have a far more enjoyable mow 🤔 And if your looking to get scientific, whos to say its not more beneficial to let the full grass blade dry out, get a bit of morning sun, warm the ground a little and then cut..
I don’t think I need to tell you but be careful with your kids around that dam, I noticed your boy close to it while you’re up the other end. I know I should mind my business but there is nothing more tragic.
Should always mention for the noobs or less informed that you should always rotate your fungicides, using 3 to 4 different kinds so the turf doesn't build up a immunity to any one fungicide class / group.
Your wife went to a wedding without you? Unless you chose not to go which I hope but If I had a girl I wouldn’t let her go to a wedding by herself knowing what I’ve walked in on during them. lol
