Snorkeling in the winter can be tricky with the high surf. I was at Kua a few days this February, and one of the days only a few people were standing in the water at the shoreline as the surf was nearly reaching the lifeguard shack.
You should always take conditions into consideration. You’re right that the winter months are more apt to get bigger swells and should warrant caution.
Definitely depends on what you want to use it for. Out of the water, I like the newer versions (I have a 7), but I still use my 5 for in water because of how it switches between functions.

I avoid Kua Bay in the winter.
@@KenCozine totally understand staying out of the water. Sit up away from the beach, enjoy the waves and keep an eye out for whales.
Thank you for the review
Hope it helps!
No good in the winter...come back in July😊
Is that because of the beach being pulled out or the actual snorkeling was subpar?
kua bay was boming yesterday
Missing it. It looks like little pepper flakes from up high
Love ALL your videos and I’m now a subscriber. What do you film with?
Thanks so much! I mostly use a GoPro and a Mavic mini. Nothing too fancy, but it works nice.
Your videos and narration are fabulous. What model GoPro? I’m looking to buy a new one.

How is it at kua bay during high surf advisory?
Always err to the side of caution
