    I’m on the new curriculum and have only got two weeks left of my first placement left (health visiting). My cohort was told by the lecturers that we must have a minimum of one practice supervisor (some placements offer numerous supervisors for one student) but as long as we are with other health professionals it’s fine. My named supervisor is a Health Visitor but I’ve been with School Nurses, HCAs, Nursery Nurses, Practice Nurses, a Specialist Haemoglobinopathy Nurse. It’s fantastic!

      That's great to hear!! So glad it's working out well. In my head it sounds so much better out there with this new curriculum and standards :D It's nice to know it's actually working and it's better for students

    I think its great for students, as there is more practical hands on experience and i don't find the students will have the feeling of constantly being watched by one person. You are able to learn from more than one which is a better learning experience in my opinion because each midwife or nurse has their own ways on learning and teaching. I'm glad they have changed things now . Thank you for being so informative its been really help full as a student currently .

    I'm all for change, and I'm excited about a lot of the changes...but the new mentorship role I'm really concerned about, I'll be going into stage 3 soon so I will be switching from the old way to the new way when that happens. I like having an assigned mentor, it gives stability and support.
    I just don't like being in the guinea pig phase, it feels like the wards are not up to speed with what is happening and there will be less support in the transition. It's great that everyone will supervise students, and they should, but there are nurses that didn't do the mentorship course because they don't want to teach students and have a very negative attitude, and I know I wasn't the only person to feel this way when I went to an RCN workshop about the new standards earlier this year. I hate being so negative (I have total second year blues), it could be so great if teams would work together to support students, but the reality of that happening I'm not sure. I really hope it works, just unsettling when they change things up part way through your degree that is already difficult.

    Congratulations on your new role. I found your videos so helpful and I am grateful. One thing only : I am not so sure if you have already done any videos on "reflective accounts" and I have seen so many but still unable to understand what in the world unis want. Gibs cycle is easy to understand but it is not enough. Pls heeeelp

      Our uni was happy with Gibbs cycle :) I’m not sure what your uni want though? It could be the way you’re writing it? Maybe not enough reflection etc? 🤔 Might be good to go to your personal development department (if you have one) or the library staff to get some extra help if you’re struggling with it? They really helped me out 😀 but I can do a little vlog on this too! I haven’t done one yet :) x

      @@ClaireCarmichael thank you for your quick response and yes, the problem is my writing style. I am too descriptive and not enough critical or analytical. Unfortunately libraries are less accessible with covid and I am working with covid patients. So, I am trying to make the most of my learning without any support. My uni is supportive but again it is a personal thing. I need books and more in person teaching. Anyway, thanks again

    Can you allocate them to 1 practice supervisor??? I was told we cant allocate them a named Practice supervisor?

    • @ClaireCarmichael
      @ClaireCarmichael  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Vicky Sullivan there is no one named person. There will be one named practice assessor who monitors everything and ‘passes’ or ‘fails’ a student. But everyone is now classed as a practice supervisor (the old mentor). If that makes sense lol the links are in the details below the video to look at which explains it too :)

    What about ODP ,,Do l need to do this course ,,l am not a nurse,,???

    • @ClaireCarmichael
      @ClaireCarmichael  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      This isn’t a course. It’s a registration to be a nurse after doing the nursing degree. If you’ve done a nursing or midwifery degree then yes you’ll need this registration.

      Charlotte Cooke that’s never a good sign! 😱 At our uni, the module leader’s create the assignment briefs etc so they should know it :(

    I cannot recommend strongly enough that students learn about regulatory law. Law is crucial to understanding your practice area.
    Learn about the trial processes because NMC and regulators put nurses on trial.
    Also whistleblowing laws just in case you have uncaring managers who give you unwise instructions aff citing Pts.
    God is watching all of us, including dishonest regulatory lawyers, who are
    corr£££..
