This is one of my favourite chapters of the homeworld series, having to cross a highly dangerous area in order to complete a journey, and having to fight a powerful enemy driven by religious dogma, only to learn that you are fighting your own people at the end. It is very intense yet tragic, this reminds me a lot of the writings of JRR Tolkien, particularly the quest of Erebor (the hobbit) and the kinslaying of the elves (the silmarillion)
The Garden of Kadesh is one the hardest episodes to play. The story line to the existence of the race of people who controls the Garden of Kadesh ranks up there to the lores of lost tribes of the Isralites
@@MATTIUS I honestly think that there should be two games using the HMRM engine set in the existing timeline. Game one would be something that could be a stand alone or a series of "extra missions." You lead a carrier task force. Carrier is a Kushan design. Deliberatly state that the Carrier itself is ending its tour of service soon. This establishes that its been some time following the reclamation and shortly after the beast war. It would have missions where you explore the great wastelands and the anchent wrecks that oddly resemble your ships, the furthest you travel would be to kadesh where only a sole needleship only partly operational lay. Some of the kadesh rejoin the kithiid, the rest.... Remain. During this campaign you can get clued into why the new ship designs are so different from their HW 1 counterparts... Say they are designed to be resistant to beast infection or something. Start introducing the new ships slowly during the campaign so say start with assault frigates and phase over to flack frigates. Have one old style and new style destroyer jump in during a tight spot in a mission and fight ypur enemy with the old style one dying early or something to explain why the new DD is better (seriously, because the New one having no ion cannons kinda is stupid. Same guns between the two but trading two ion cannons for a torpedo tube? Come ooonnnnn. Give us a reason for the apparent down grade!) With the final cinematic of the carrier being stood down at the original mothership (makes sense as we are told that up until its shell and guts are used for the pride or higarra that its exactly what its purpose has become, a massive shipyard.) And next to the mother ship on either side, two shipyards with one of them sending out workers to examine a derelict that you returned and the other has a partly constructed battle cruiser, the first of its kind.
@@MATTIUS the 2nd? The dust wars. I would *love* to see the traditionally good guys do an act that is actually shameful (the orbital bombardment of the tidan homeworld) get shamed then fight the *fully armed* bentusi and Bentus... And Sajuuks Wrath jumping to the angel moons grab well would be the end of the final mission, your desperate yet futile battle against the bentusi. The cinematic once you hit the J button for the last time would show the Bentusi in shame at what they did to a race that should have been their peers for acting how they once acted. The tiidan slowly claiming higaran territory with now overwhelming force... And then... The exile...
@@MATTIUS make the captain of Sajuuks Wrath a S'jet just because. But yeah, that would be excellent. Maybe between those two games we could get some clarification on the ship types found in the deserts of karak
I love the attention to detail that went into the writing here. They managed to communicate several things without directly stating them (spoonfeeding the players): 1. Up until Captain Elson is encountered, virtually all the intel the Kushan had came from the decryption and analysis of _one_ Taiidan frigate's computers. This is true to reality, where computers store vast amounts of sensitive data that a professional intel person can dig into and extrapolate from 2. The Kushan were fighting a guerilla war, and knew it. They continually popped up out of nowhere, and ruthlessly hunted down any escaping ships to deny the Taiidan any intel on them 3. That while the Taiidan Empire was vast and had the resources to easily defeat the exiles, they couldn't be everywhere at once and the Kushan were going to exploit that to full effect. The rebellion nearly failed but it served it's purpose unintentionally, distracting this massive empire and sucking resources away, allowing the Kushan to penetrate every barrier in their way until Hiigara. They were like a scalpel, jumping to locations where'd they'd have local superiority then moving on before the hammer came down
I wish we could have seen more of the Kadesh, learning more of them after playing these missions I feel sympathy for them. They have come to become one of my favorite factions in Homeworld.
A fascinating connection in Deserts of Kharak exists with the Gaalsien. If you look at their Kiith crest in the ending cutscene it is more prominent than the others. The implication is that they were probably in charge before and for a time after landfall. They preserved the knowledge of the exodus the only way they could; as a religion. And then they became fanatics over the centuries Assuming they were the premier Kiith during the breakaway in the nebula, it's a safe bet that the Kadeshi were also Gaalsien. Given their propensity towards religious extremism, it's even more likely. They even use the same tactics. So we indirectly do get to learn more of them in the prequel, sad as the ending is
God I still remember the feeling when that realisation that it was basically a gigantic blue on blue mission. So tragically structured but also offered some amazing set pieces for you to overcome. The writing of Homeworld still holds up to this day
Man, the Research Division are the MVPs of Homeworld. All the other divisions are also invaluable, but the Research Division pumps out new tech based on things they encountered hours to even minutes ago.
A quick and painless way to pass this level - have a fleet of capital ships or build one. Send a probe close to the middle of the map and start collecting resources. Soon the Kadesh mothership will appear and start closing in. Send all capital ships to intercept and bombard it. As the cutscene plays, you will see a barrage on it in the background while their ambassador flexes and threatens to kill you. By the time the cutscene ends, the mothership has been disintegrated. It's pretty hilarious 😅
To anyone thinking this guy's exaggerating the Kadeshi threat: In Homeworld 1 1.0.0 they were insanely strong. If you hit the Nebula without a decked out fleet your cheeks would be needled.
I was still pretty young when the game came out, and hadn't really grasped the meta of RTS games of the time yet. I tried this mission so many times and couldn't do it. I actually gave up for years after the next mission, which is even more insane. Games back then could be so unforgiving and I actually miss that, without doing everything right you'd get curb stomped by kadeshi. What's weird is that the defender was absurdly strong against them in the original, but in the remaster they're useless and drone frigates are gold. Those frigs were AWFUL in the original IIRC
I'm really enjoying these Homeworld videos. I'm glad you have other games to keep your channel alive while ED remains in a bit of a standstill. I've figured out a good way to integrate any future No Man's Sky fanfiction into the same loreverse that GOTE takes place in. I've also finally got a rough idea for the ending of GOTE, but that won't be written for a while yet.
Glad your enjoying these. NMS is rather complex lorewise. The simulation of each instance of reality do allow you to add l things non cannon as there has been many simulations over and over again. You'll be pleased to know the video I am working on currently is ED
The alleged name of the artefact on Raxxla, the Omphalos Rift, is taken from Ancient Greek culture. In Ancient Greek, "omphalos" means "navel", or the center of a thing, and the Ancient Greeks believed that the sanctuary of Delphi was the center of the world. Intriguingly, when the Knowledge Base that contained the first mention of the Omphalos Rift was added to Elite Dangerous with update 3.3, the system Pleiades Sector IR-W d1-55, which was the headquarters of the anti-Thargoid organization Aegis, was also renamed Delphi.
