It's amazing how fun and different the fights in Dragonball are. There are all sorts of fun and clever moments, from the Volleyball technique to wearing sunglasses.

Yeah it's kinda weird that he never really had a silly or stupid moment. Goku stupid, Vegeta so full of himself, Krillen is so many I can't count, Yamcha is clowned on for being somewhat weak.
I think he was intended to be a straight man but he had no one to bounce off of so he ended up just kind of humourless. If Launch stayed around she probably could have been the right kind of insane to make his character funny in reactions.
Gotenks did a callback of that technique against buu after he went out of the hyperbolic lion tamer in ssj 3

I dont think closing your eyes work against the solar flare, as the solar flare stays on for a while. Also, Tenshinhan attacked while the light was still beaming

This is a great fight. One of my favorite fights in Dragon Ball
Tbh, Goku was slightly stronger than Tien at this point. If it wasn’t for chiaotzu, Goku probably would’ve beat Tien straight up. Tien tri-beam would’ve been his saving grace

Goku is still reliant on sight to fight. It'll make more sense later, which is why Goku doesn't match the level of power you expect.

Great episode! As much as I enjoy DBZ, there’s just something about how they did more pure martial arts fights in OG DB that just can’t be beaten

1:10 in the Japanese version he "I'm ready!" in a funny high pitch voice during this part instead of using his normal voice, as if talking weird is an important part of the move. And instead of remaining silent when he starts bouncing Goku he again speaks in that voice "One!" "Two!", "Aaaaahhh!" While Tein yells and tells Goku to get ready in his normal voice, in the Japanese original Tenshinhan keeps up with the goofy voice as he screams and yells "Attack!"
I guess FUNimation thought the joke was too silly, so they just kept his voice normal?

It’s still weird that even though Tien was the first one to use it in the anime and manga, Krillin is the only one who uses the Solar Flare.
Goku and Cell also use it. Tien uses it again in the ToP.

I like that afterimage exchange in this fight and i think people say this proves Goku is faster then Light by dodging the solar flare but i kinda disagree with that i might be wrong
He literally moved fast enough to move to Roshi, take his sunglasses, go back to the spot he was standing at, put on the sunglasses, and all of this before the flash light traveled from Tien to Goku
@@ero-senninsama1734 i know but people was debating about this and saying he wasn't faster light till that filler episode later when he was training with popo and there's others say is based on this tien fight

I don't know why Dragon ball gets hate for pacing, what's the rush? How can people just want to live from plot point to plot point? A lovely story will be over before you even know it, it's great to have breathing space between plot points, it's great to have a show let you stop and cherish the audio and visuals instead of just running from one set piece to another. People are just addicted to quick hits of plot points instead of just letting the world breathe and live in front of them.
It's the pacing during the plot points. If you read the manga and then watch the anime, it can feel so slow. The anime, especially before DBZ, will take a short fight and stretch it into a full episode. Like Goku vs Mummy.

I think Chao Tsu interfered. Tien is supposed to be an honorable fighter, but he sees cheating as acceptable to kill the person who killed Mercenary Tao. Also, he should’ve dodged Tien’s punch; his belly was wide open.
