Mega Man's Game Boy series is getting a lot of love from fans lately. First we got a full colorization of Mega Man V ( • Mega Man V (Game Boy C... ), and now a similar treatment has been applied to the original.
The game is essentially a quick-and-dirty remix of the first two NES Mega Man games that cuts down the runtime, ramps up the difficulty, and introduces a new bad guy known as Enker.
Though it wasn't created by Capcom itself, Dr. Wily's Revenge was an excellent first attempt at bringing the blue bomber to Nintendo's handheld system, and this update is a solid improvement. The new look suits the game well, and the faster GBC CPU smooths out the bouts of slowdown the game suffered from on the original Game Boy. Definitely worth a download if you're a fan of the game.
Fingers crossed someone gives MM 2-4 the same love!

Oh man, these color hacks of GB Mega Man games are so great. I played most of these on an original GB but these are just so awesome to look at. I even remember losing my original MM Wily's Revenge cart, then something like 9 months later found it outside in the grass smashed into the ground while I was mowing the lawn. Took it inside, cleaned it up and it still worked even after being out in the elements through winter!
That's nuts. Those old cartridges were virtually indestructible.
When we were kids, I got mad at my brother and washed this cartridge under soap and water. Thought I would ruin it. To this day, still works
you can probably kill someone with old gameboy cartridges in some way

First we got a colorized version of Mega Man V, and then the original gets the same treatment just a month later! A guy might start to feel spoiled if this trend continues.
I feel in the future it is numbers II, III and IV getting the GBC treatment, but wow, so colorized.😃✨✨✨

Well, considering the amount of work needed to not only colorize but also fix the audio issue(s) of Megaman World II, I wish nothing but luck to the rom hacking team(s) taking the project on.

The first three GB Mega Man games were my jam during my preteens. We didn't have a lot of money for new console games around that time, but we could always count on getting Game Boy stuff. I played the heck out of these on the Super Game Boy and had so much fun designing stage specific palettes. This colourization would have blown my mind back in the day.
Part of me prefers the "World" series on the GB to the NES ones, though that could just be the nostalgia goggles. They're great titles though.
Except MMII
II's still great, or at least good. Lesser, but its still fun for what it is.
@@BB-te8tc I reason I don't like it or don't play it that much is because the world series as we know it took levels from the nes games and add to them like in elec man extended air man part or adding bombs in shadow man's stage but MMII didn't do that but instead just copied the levels and made them smaller to fit in the gameboy so this is I don't prefer to play it when their preexisting games that had those levels better
@@HuskgamerI good point. They do at least rearrange the stage elements to make new stages with familiar elements (and introduce some water sections for seemingly no reason other than to use Rush Marine), but they don't really do all that much with them and they feel haphazardly added in.
If MM2 were a straight conversion I'd argue there's absolutely no reason to play it, but at least the stages are somewhat original. That said, it's the weakest in the Rockman World series by no small measure.

This game is still today a great game! If you want soul crushing difficulty yet fun. The MM series is your game!
just tried this today.. and yes.. DIDNT PASS 1 SCREEN EVEN.. started with the cutman, maybe its bc of that

I played this game so much as a kid. As a massive Mega Man fan I thought it was an excellent, polished and fun game. One of my favourite GB games back then. I remember that the teleporter boss rush part that starts at around 21:00 was actually pretty challenging.
Yeah, the entire game is pretty difficult. I thought it was harder than any of the NES games.
@@NintendoComplete I agree that it’s a difficult game for sure. I remember that at that teleport section, if you pick the wrong teleporter/use the wrong weapon on a boss/run out of a weapon you might as well restart the game. It’s been at least 25 years since I played it, but that boss rush stands out in my mind as super hard if you don’t do it exactly right.
had it on GB and could make it to Wily 1 but never beat it...only beat it on the 3DS w/ save states
@@thecunninlynguist It was a very hard game. Save states definitely would have helped back then! I think I beat it once or twice on “lucky” runs. I played this game and Final Fantasy Legend II & III so much; I’d even put on my “NUBY Gamelight” and play at night. The Game Boy was so awesome.

Elec Man enemy AI: not great, not terrible
I wasted never really big on the first few Megaman GB titles, but this colorization effort looks just as great as the previous one of Megaman V. Might give this a second chance someday.

These remasters are great, but I wish there was the option to keep the inverted HUD from the Gameboy original with white backing. It looks so strange this way.

i had this for GB! Looks fantastic w/ the colors. Too bad Capcom didn't give us the colorized GBA collection they were planning on. I still have the Dr. Wily code memorized....if they do MM2, maybe they'll also fix the music

I hope the creator of this does the other games too. we were suppose to have this on GBA but capcom pulled it for unknown reasons. I read it was finished, maybe a dump will appear online for us to play. I am doubtful though. Look how long the Castlevania resurrection alpha/beta took to be released.
These hacks of classic gameboy games reminds me of how they would colorized classic films from back then like King Kong, Casablanca, & It's a Wonderful Life.

A long time ago. The legend games came out. Giving us the 6 nes games on 1 disc. Had it on Game Cube and PS2. They were supposed to release 1 for the Gameboy games. I payed for the preorder. Sadly that day never came. Gamestop gave me my money back. I forget what i got with it. But was wishing i got these games instead.

The first mega man game i ever played,and after that became an obsesion! But why mega man world? Anyway in general the same game,i always started with fire man though considering him the easiest of the first bunch and stages! Nice trick with elecman as well! 😉

Very nice! Well played! I love this color version of the game! Honestly, this game still feels like one of the more difficult classic Mega Man titles. It feels like some of the enemies are more damage sponges and you seem to take more damage from obstacles/enemies. Also, it seems that there are places that you just can't avoid taking damage due to the smaller screen real estate. It's still a solid game, though!

Maybe the rest of the series will be colorized by the time my Analogue Pockets arrive. I'm really hoping to see World 4 colorized.
To me the only mistake this game made was the lack of a new password between wily stage 1 and 2. It's only frustrating, not challenging because if you want to turn off your fucking game boy and go to sleep after hours beating the first wily stage you have to do both again
I'm going to sound greedy: I hope one day I would see what would have been if the other 4 robot masters had gotten their own stages. (Flash, Quick, Heat, and Bubble.)
