Black Hat is correct, spider kingdom is fucked for males. The female is almost always 2-10x bigger and some will even try to eat the male before he can mate, so it really is a matter of stealth for some species. That's why males will always try to flee if the female seems pissed off.

They dont have either really, the male transfers sperm to his palps (they look like small legs at the front), he then inserts the end into the female while he's cuddling her. :) I slowed down the video where you can see him pull it back out of her. Hey Kate Boe Bate, I'd love to say it's play but from a honest point of view I'm not sure it it's simply moving something (the ball) or sorta playing. She does move it round & even though I chose a bell cat toy so I can hear when she does, she tends to do it at night when I'm asleep. Might need to set up a night vision cam. Lol

Hiya SiShui that's a great question. Tarantulas only lay 'normal' web like a carpet or trip lines however they will make suspended sheets of web for molting on or to make a sperm web. Now, the sperm web will either have a male on it or you'll only see the reminance where he gathered it up to collect the sperm so it will look like white stringy Web stuck across part of the tank. I believe there is an album on my tropical discovery workshops page showing a goliath bird eater doing just that. :)

Hiya, yeah it's tough especially when you kick the bucket after a cpl of sexual meetings. :D As for the bald abdomen, he had a full covering of hair, made a sperms web & marched around his rub all evening & lost the hairs then. He didn't flick them & was a very calm boy but yeah, they went in the space of about 8hrs. 😮
