B Smithi is so beautiful! That species will always be my favorite! It was the first species I ever saw in a movie when I was a kid and when I think about the word, "tarantula" the B Smithi is the first thing that comes up in my mind. Thanks for sharing!
Hey Kat. thanks again! Further to my comment 1 week ago. You've really helped me take the plunge. My first ever 2 slings arrived this morning! A 1.4cm/ 1/2 inch B. hamorii (£7) & after months of research i found a 1.9cm / 9/10 inch B. smithi (£16). Both advertised as 1cm, so i think i've lucky! Terrified I won't know how to look after them properly, having only had one adult female G porteri 29 years ago! When i went to Uni I couldn't take her, so sold her back to the pet shop. Mind you, she'd become so so so defensive it was impossible to pick her up after 6 months as she used to turn around and bite my pen! THanks again for your great advice and expertise Kat. Justin UK

wow that smithi is beautiful 😍 theres a 100% way to tell which you have even if you dont have two to compare or w/e bcus both colour banded leg sections of a smithi have orange in them, but in a hamorii only the top coloured section actually has orange. if you look at the lower section you can see its a cream colour w/ no orange also I think you will rly like the albiceps theyre so nice to look at and mine is super docile and friendly
my dream t from the beginning was an Arizona Blonde! finally got my Arizona Blonde, Brownie, as my first tarantula almost a year ago now! ^.^ she just molted in my care about 3 weeks ago and 99% sure she's a female😁 she's amazing and I love her so much. excellent choice!!!
Just so you know, the carapace pattern can change between the same species of each so it’s not a great determinator of which species is which; the knees are best to check for species difference

You're right Kat it is so you and that hair just tops off the outfit. Congrats on your new tarantulas I love them. I may have to buy one and send it to you to raise and keep for me since I'm getting a little older I really don't have the energy to chase a spider around the house but let me know what your thoughts are on that. And we could decide together what to get since you'd be taking care of it and I would even buy a house for it.

The smithi has darker orange than the hamorii in my opinion. Also I’ve seen the smithi be called the giant Mexican Red knee and the hamorii the Mexican red knee.
You are almost correct! Brachypelma smithi are called "Mexican giant orange knee tarantulas" and Brachypelma hamorii are called "Mexican red knee tarantulas". Though it is SUPER common for these two species to be incorrectly named/identified.

Last year I got one .5" sling as a freebi and now, it turned out female and she is over 2,5" now! A full grown B. smithi (annitha) is in TOP 3 with its beauty and any kind of T´s
nice! I spent a lot of time at the micro wilderness booth at the reptile expo I recently went to. the guy that I was talking to was super cool, I think his name was Nate but I could be mistaken. they're semi local to me so definitely gonna pick something up from them once this is all over

love the influx of T. verdezi. I think I have 3 now .75 -1.5" They seem overall very peaceful even as slings. Many vendors jumped at the chance for this Mexi import. Hopefully CBB's of all Brachys and Tlitocatls will will soon eliminate the need for any WC's

B Smithi is definetely one of the coolest looking tarantulas and their red colorations look pretty.
