    Website to tailor your resume to Product Management:
    (The free version is more than enough to tailor your resume)
    ✂️ www.jobscan.co
    --------------
    Tips to have a great Product Management Resume:
    1 - Format
    * When it comes to the Format recruiters are looking at resumes to find who can be a potential good fit for the Product Management role based on the candidate's past experience, they are not looking for a graphic designer.
    * A simple white and black resume with no extra format is as powerful as any other design. Your accomplishments should be the thing that shines! not your design.
    2. Length of your resume
    * Unless you have more than 10 years of experience, don't use more than 1 page. Recruiters will spend about 6 seconds looking at your resume and now you are asking them to split that time into more than one page? Also, make sure that the font style and size you use is readable, don't try to save some space by making your font size 5.
    3 - Sections
    * The first thing to add at the top is Information about you.
    * I don't recommend adding a photo to your resume.
    2. Education
    * Make sure you list your degrees starting with the most recent one. Add some of the extracurricular activities you did.
    3. Work Experience
    * Every line starts with a verb in past tense, describes what you did (not your job description) and measures the impact you had. Measuring impact can be, for example, about increasing revenue, saving costs, improve performance, reduce time in a process or increase customer satisfaction, among others.
    4. Additional Information
    * While the main content should be focused on Education and Work experience, you can add skills ("Excel" is not a skill anymore… don't add it), volunteering that you may have done, interests (to show that you are more than just your job), languages, online degrees and certifications or projects that you have worked on.

      Hi Diego,
      The best part which helped me is how to keep a PM resume short and succinct. Appreciate your effort & valuable time for making this prolific video. Can I please request you for a resume review of mine being a current PM, along with a draft template(if possible based on your valuable & precious time). Many thanks for helping out!

      Diego, After seeing your content on LinkedIn and youtube, I understand that my skills are very much transferable to a PM role. The entire 2021 I was exploring my long term career options. I still couldn't fix my mind on a particular designation/goal. I kept learning tools and skills, but did not know what designation I need to go after. Sales, B.D, Project Management, Data Scientist etc etc... Though all my life I have been jack of multiple trades, I believe in becoming master at 1 or 2 atleast. And after viewing your content, I think I am going to aim to become for PM - To become one of the best Product Managers. I am going to learn everything that you have already taught and start applying for PM jobs in 2022. Thank-you so much for this.. I hope to meet you some day

    All of your videos have been so insightful and helpful. I'm so happy that I came across your work. So thankful! The "6 seconds exercise" really put things into perspective. I'm planning to send over my resume to ask for some feedback - looking forward to it!

  • @fabiolaroche7475
    @fabiolaroche7475 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Diego, thank you so much for going in depth and explaining the resume process step by step. The advice I found most helpful was to not list my job description in the bullets (I was doing this on every resume), but instead measure and quantify my impact. I will use the advice from this video to re-do my resume. I was also surprised to learn that a summary was not needed. I’ve come across a lot of hiring managers/resume writers who say the objective is a key part of the resume and to tailor it to the job description.

    I think using Resume Worded, although not always perfect, is extremely helpful to help optimize your resume, LinkedIn account, etc. I'd be curious to hear your recommendations on doing more of a hybrid resume (functional and chronological) if you're transitioning from a completely different field (i.e. patientcare in healthcare). Thank you so much for you insight specific to PM resumes!

    • @PMDiegoGranados
      @PMDiegoGranados  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm glad that it helped! For publications and research you don't necessarily need the impact. Impact (numbers) typically apply more to work or school extracurricular activities. For research resumes, I've seen more along the lines of just listing publications (which should be ok). Let me know if this helps!

    I wonder if there's a difference in acceptable formats in the UK and the US

    Absolutely awesome content Diego. I found it very useful. Just a quick question: Is it okay if I include only the master’s degree in the Education section and exclude the bachelors Since it’s not related to either my current master’s degree or the job I’ll be applying for in near future?
    (Since I‘be had 4 different job roles it’s becoming very hard to include all the info while maintaining the white space on a 1 page resume)

      Thank you for your question, Himanshu! I understand the concern of the space and wanting to not add the bachelors since it may not seem relevant; however, your bachelors can show the recruiter and hiring manager of different skills you bring to the table. What you can do, however, is just add a line (smaller font) that just highlights school, bachelors and year of graduation - don't need to add more details about it. I personally have never seen a resume without that information.

      @@PMDiegoGranadosSure. I guess it’d be better to add that info than make the recruiter think ‘oh wait something is missing’ or that something doesn’t look right!!!

    That's great Diego! Thank you.
    Aslo I have a question, should I mention our previous related roles like software engineer, designer or business analyst in my resume when I want to apply as a PM? or I just mention my pm roles experience and eliminate the other positions?

      As @Diego said: "If they resonate with the job posting, absolutely! E.g., if you were applying to a technical pm role."

    Thank you so much for making this video. This is very helpful to me as an aspiring PM. Wanted more clarification on the part what are the items I should highlight (by making Bold or different color) to attract recruiter attention. Every bullet points will have 3 parts - Starting with Verb in Past Tense, Context and Measurement of success. Is it required to highlight all the three or highlight not required at all?

      I’m glad you liked it! I would highlight the impact, the number :)

    Do you recommend listing your education first if you have been out of college and working for the past 4 years?

    • @PMDiegoGranados
      @PMDiegoGranados  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi! It won’t make much difference, at least not big enough to be the determining factor on whether your resume will be reviewed.
      I recommend adding it at the top, but if you want to add it below it won’t hurt your application ☺️.

    What about resume templates from websites that imprint their watermark as a footer?

    • @PMDiegoGranados
      @PMDiegoGranados  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Try to stay away from those with watermark, if doesn't really add much and may not look as professional

    What do you think about a 2 page resume if you have 20 years of experience?

    I found interesting that you advice to not have a "summary" section. Just deleted mine.
