A few minutes in that was the first thing I wanted to say. The man has never stopped growing, in anything. 20 years ago I could only get the gist of what he was saying.
Rafa was always my favorite tennis player. A news person asked him once, when did you know that you were something special? Rafa replied, I am not something special, I am a person just like you. What an amazing statement. And in a world where tennis players get mad, break their rackets, slap at balls and swear at people - you do not see that Rafa. He is the epitome of what every athlete should aspire to be both personally and professionally.
One of my managers once told me a hard truth: When an adventure is over, what you remember is people, not achievements. It took me a decade to understand this statement.
The love and warmth these two gentlemen have for each other is very palpable to me. And they share a quality of humbleness that I don’t see a lot in their generation of tennis players. These two men are my favorite players because they are not just great tennis players who’ve achieved the pinnacle of their game, but because they don’t see tennis as the end all and be all.
Unbelievable. Such great rivals, but they still seem genuinely comfortable with each other. Although if the interview had gone for 5 more minutes, Roger would have completely pushed Rafa off the bench! 😅. So, good to see you both!

I’m in tears because the world will never again see the likes of two legendary icons such as Roger and Rafa. Obviously Novak Djokovic is every bit as legendary as these two, but he’s still playing, and no two players will be able to replicate what these two guys achieved on and off the court.
