I found this area the most creepy, sinister, and abstract(?) final dungeon in the mainline Final Fantasy games. All those dimensions Exdeath (and like Enuo before him) consumed and assimilated together by the Void, that bizarre village of people frozen in time, and the dark music as well. You can probably overthink it a bit further given that not only is Exdeath here somewhere waiting for you, but other ancient evils and powerful entities such as Omega and Shinryu also dwell here. Later installments in the series heavily imply the those two beings are from other realities, specifically from the universe of the first Final Fantasy game called "World A" and that the Interdimensional Rift actually links all of the other FF realities. Which also implies that Gilgamesh from FFV is the very same individual we encounter in the other games. Heck, in the Japanese version of FFVIII, Gilgamesh nearly speaks Bartz name, wondering if the FFV protagonist was the one that had summoned/freed him from the "dimensional interval". I recall seeing/reading somewhere that the case is possibly the same for the character Gogo in Final Fantasy VI being the very same individual from FFV would used the *Banish* spell to escape to the Void. . .
back in my first blind playthrough in 2007, this dungeon gimmick is so odd, i thought it was a just some dungeon that you need to traverse to restore the world from void to advance the story. (restoring the lost towns) it wasn't till i reached the final part of the dungeon like few weeks later i realize.. this is actually the final dungeon of the game dang.
Panic, fear, anxiety, dread, hopelessness, all wrapped up into one to make this song as beautiful and sinister as possible.

It's confirmed that Gilgamesh we see in all the later games is the very same one from this game.
This is something I never really thought about until reading this and this changes everything I thought I knew about Final Fantasy.
The optional fight against Gilgamesh in 12 TZA us a good example....he wields replicas of Clouds, Squalls and Tidus' weapons.
Amazing take, makes me appreciate FFV even more. I was waiting for Gilgamesh in FF7Rebirth to mention Bartz!!
Not many realize the implications of the existence of this area for the whole series
