Seriously... it hits hard, because I loved in Houston, Texas from 2006-2008, and sometime in 2007 I experienced 3 weeks of non stop rain there. It began flash flooding and FOR DAYS AND DAYS there was a foot or more of water on every road, the over pass bridges looked like Niagara falls and water was non stop dumping off the side, it was unreal. Me being 19 or 20 at the time, took way too many risks and was still driving every day for work and pleasure. I saw cars and everything loose on the ground, float away.. it was absolutely unreal. It's scary
Ruby Ridge is an example of how easily the government can over reach their authority. The million didn’t bring back Vicki or Sammy. It was an absolute tragedy and another example of how the FBI can operate far beyond their reach.
Being armed in your home is not a crime under the 2nd amendment of the us constitution. " shall not be infringed " means exactly that, and the armed men gave no signs of being a threat. This was murder, outright murder. Period.
My son went to school with Darren. His death hurts my heart, he was a beautiful soul. I can’t imagine the pain his mother and family felt when he was found.
The tax day flood (that’s what we in this area called it) was highly unusual. It flooded areas that normally don’t flood. The raging flood waters destroyed so much. Darren was young, not sure what to do as this wasn’t a normal flood. My heart broke when I heard what happened to him. When I went to pick my son up from school, Darren would be there to give me a hug, amazing smile and kind words. I count my blessings each day that my son is still with me.
@@sjm8650 the currents of the water during that flood were highly unpredictable. That was a very unusual flood for this area, they say it happens once every 100 years there. @@sjm8650 water and floods are so deceptive and precarious. Flash floods are named for how quickly a dry area can become a raging river, in just a few minutes. When I was little there were 3 workers fixing a large drainage pipe near my home, the type of pipe you can walk in. A summer storm started w just a little lightening, while there was still sunshine. Then a cloudburst occurred as the workers were gathering their stuff, and all 3 we're knocked down and dragged buy a wall of water that started from an area of higher elevation where the water collected toward the pipe that they were on the other side of. All 3 died. It taught me to never wait to see how bad things might get during a regular rain, let alone a cloudburst.

The baby in Vicki's arms was Elishiba. I knew her in high school and she was really awesome despite what she had gone through. I don't blame that family for their hatred one bit.
I’m surprised they even let her go to school, with school being tied to the government. They should’ve just left these people alone. They just couldn’t handle that this family wasn’t dependent upon the government; scared of losing a couple dollars.
All the government did was prove them right. And the sniper that murdered Vicki went to murder more people in Waco. 100% instigated by the feds. Criminals.

Mr. Ballen, I would love to see an episode dedicated entirely to Randy Weaver and the Ruby Ridge incident. There’s so much story to tell! The more in-depth you dive, the more you realize just how badly the FBI and the Marshal service botched the entire situation. Excellent job summing it up, though, as always.

My great uncle lived for a time in Fairbanks after he went to Alaska to work on the pipeline in the 80's. A gentleman approached him to see if he would go with him to provide security because he wanted to write a book about Portlock. My great uncle said sure thinking he would be on the lookout for bears. They hired a boat to take them in but dropped anchor a good distance away , untethered a small raft and said he wasnt going any farther in. My great uncle said the man seemed really nervous and barely went into the remains of the town. While they were there he heard loud screams and large rocks being thrown at them. He said the creepiest part was how everything went quiet in the forest. The man took a few photos and said " f" this shit c'mon I'm done. They loaded up and left. Many of the native Alaskans tribes wont talk about the town or the creatures that many believe are bigfoot or Yeti or a cross of the two.

People, I live in Louisiana, where we get hurricanes every year. Don't ever, EVER go back into your vehicle if you're in a flood. If the water has risen high enough where you have to leave it then you're sentencing yourself to death if you get back in it.
I’m from around that same area there is no hope in that situation. He was trying to get a view to see if there was another way out(vehicle hopping maybe) he knew in the water was a death sentence, maybe the water would just push the truck around and he could get out once it subsided. BTW we get Hurricanes every year too
In 2021 I got caught in a really intense band of thunderstorms in inland Connecticut. Water began rising all around me, intense rain was obscuring my vision and it seemed to only intensify the further I drove. I was trying to go as far as I could in hopes to get clear of the acute summer storms, but it just kept getting worse. In a bout of anxiety I turned around and made it to a gas station that was kind of on a hill, and was able to wait out the storm. It was scary because it showed me how things can deteriorate for you despite your best course of action.
I like to imagine that the natives near Port Lock had this meeting, discussing how to get the Port Lock residents to get off their land and reclaim what was there’s, and one guy in the back raises his hand to say “We should just say it’s Bigfoot.” And that’s how it all started.
But they saw it with their own eyes. They saw bigfoot with their own eyes. And then they left. And they found people mutilated. No ones going to leave their home on hearsay.
Mr. Ballen is the greatest storyteller that I have ever encountered. Listening to him tell a story is just as good if not better than watching a movie of the subject. He is so elaborate and descriptive and he just really knows how to set a scene.
It was Paul Harvey that talked Randy Weaver onto giving up the stand off. With the promise of hiring him the best attorney. The attorneys name was Gerry Spence.

They definitely acted brashly and way out of line, but those marshals are who should pay. They lied to the fbi and inflated the ‘threat’ the weaver family posed (They did pose a threat but definitely not one to the proportions that those marshals portrayed it as.) the fbi had no idea that the weavers weren’t as big of a threat as they said (Though why wouldn’t they ask for the details in their surveillances? How the family acted? What their routine was?)
Well, the Weaver guy runs into the woods after his dogs, and suddenly comes into contact with a whole bunch of armed men hiding on your property. If the Weaver guy shot first, if you were in his shoes, wouldn’t that seem like an ambush of some sort? And with a split second to react.
Story 1: Man, that breaks my heart. He died thinking of his baby girl. Story 2: Funny how everytime the FBI gets involved in something, innocent people die because of "miscommunication". Story 3: Yeah, that was me.
@@val-wr4je It’s called “negativity bias” not confirmation bias. But still, the amount of innocent people that have died due to the negligence of the people who are supposed to protect us is unforgivable. Nvm about the negativity bias I thought you were talking about the fact that people tend to remember the bad things rather than the good things. I guess they are both applicable in this situation lol.
Randy didn't just miss his court date. The court date was changed without informing him, so he had no way to make it. Once the date was passed and he found out there was a warrent out for his arrest he decided (correctly) that the government did not intended to fight fair, so he decided to cease cooperating.
That family and the way they were treated is a prime example for why the letter agencies need to be pulled apart, examined under a microscope, and then be completey restructured from the top down. There is Zero Accountability for any of them.
One time, I remember when I went to Myrtle Beach with my dad and brother where my grandparents owned a trailer inside of a campground along the beach. When we got there, we saw people we knew who were staying in the trailer next to us, using our grandparents' lot to park their truck while they tried to fix it. However, it was far worse than the family thought. They had driven straight through flood waters, and it was so deep, the water had gotten into the pistons and put the engine into hydraulic lock and it completely blew and wouldn't turn over, the engine had been completely destroyed, the only way to fix it would've been to completely rebuild the entire engine. Moral of the story, do NOT drive through flood waters. You have no idea how deep it is sometimes and it could cost you your vehicle or in worst case scenario, possibly your life. Pull over, wait it out, find a way around, just do not chance driving through flood waters
People often underestimate flood waters. Darren evidently had cell service and could have called 911, but he didn't because, I assume, he thought he was not in imminent danger. I'm not blaming Darren for what happened to him, there's a good chance the authorities would not have been able to get to him in time even if he had called. But my point is that it's easy to underestimate the power & danger of flood waters.

Darren's story is heartbreaking, such a tragic scenario :'(
I know, BUT HE'S FINALLY HOME ❣️
Seriously... it hits hard, because I loved in Houston, Texas from 2006-2008, and sometime in 2007 I experienced 3 weeks of non stop rain there. It began flash flooding and FOR DAYS AND DAYS there was a foot or more of water on every road, the over pass bridges looked like Niagara falls and water was non stop dumping off the side, it was unreal. Me being 19 or 20 at the time, took way too many risks and was still driving every day for work and pleasure. I saw cars and everything loose on the ground, float away.. it was absolutely unreal. It's scary
That photo scared me 😢

My son went to school with Darren. His death hurts my heart, he was a beautiful soul. I can’t imagine the pain his mother and family felt when he was found.
The tax day flood (that’s what we in this area called it) was highly unusual. It flooded areas that normally don’t flood. The raging flood waters destroyed so much. Darren was young, not sure what to do as this wasn’t a normal flood. My heart broke when I heard what happened to him. When I went to pick my son up from school, Darren would be there to give me a hug, amazing smile and kind words. I count my blessings each day that my son is still with me.
So sorry for your loss.
@@sjm8650 the currents of the water during that flood were highly unpredictable. That was a very unusual flood for this area, they say it happens once every 100 years there. When he got out of the truck, he was still surrounded by water. Fast flowing water. He had two options, be drug into the current, or the way he ultimately died.
The world is such a small place I live in the dfw area but spend a lot of time in Navasota and nobody ever knows what it is even as born and raised texans to think it’s here on this channel odd

Imagine being the last guy in Portlock, just waiting for like a month to leave.
I'm pretty sure he was there for a few years after everyone left, Ballen said all the people left in 1949 and the post man was allowed to leave in the early 50s. Hes got some balls, I would of been so damn terrified.
@Cozy Dorian wat
you would need a gun arsenal like that weaver guy had
No job is worth that mess
Well I have friends on reservations and any gun don't do shit with one guy you would need three DELTA teams and M4A1s. To take shit like that down.
Ruby ridge deserved more of an in depth episode, many lessons can be learned.
I actually posted a comment saying the same, definitely should have been a long single show. It was I who “miscalculated”

I still find it hard to believe that an FBI HRT sniper missed his intended target only to hit another person between the eyes. Those guys sort of have a reputation of not missing. If an HRT sniper shoots someone in the head I have a tendency to think his stats remain 100%.
I was thinking the same….
you expect them to come right out and say the truth? why would they, not like the courts or media will hold them accountable.
I think it was revealed that the sniper intentionally shot her because he “mistook” her baby for a weapon. don’t quote me on that tho
It was on purpose

That's how we all came here.
People, I live in Louisiana, where we get hurricanes every year. Don't ever, EVER go back into your vehicle if you're in a flood. If the water has risen high enough where you have to leave it then you're sentencing yourself to death if you get back in it.
Man the thought of a river just running wild like hulkamania all over the town doing whatever it wants terrifies me. I am never leaving the mountains.
I’m from around that same area there is no hope in that situation. He was trying to get a view to see if there was another way out(vehicle hopping maybe) he knew in the water was a death sentence, maybe the water would just push the truck around and he could get out once it subsided.
That actually sounds like the most sound theory of what happened lol, just some random serial killer being sold to them as a skin-walker
No natives lived on the island, not then and not now.

The FBI at Ruby Ridge acted criminally.
What their routine was?)
as they often do as well as the ATF and DHS etc...
As they often do
Well, the Weaver guy runs into the woods after his dogs, and suddenly comes into contact with a whole bunch of armed men hiding on your property. If the Weaver guy shot first, if you were in his shoes, wouldn’t that seem like an ambush of some sort? And with a split second to react.
@@KyleSurette13 I agree 100%
Story 1: Man, that breaks my heart. He died thinking of his baby girl.
Story 2: Funny how everytime the FBI gets involved in something, innocent people die because of "miscommunication".
Story 3: Yeah, that was me.
Confirmation bias - you only remember the cases where innocent people get killed. The FBI complete many missions where no one innocent gets hurt.
? "Story 3: Yeah, that was me"?

Thank you. & may they rest in peace ♥
