    I have one for a missing lateral incisor and if you never bite nor chew where it is, which is easy to train yourself to do, they can last decades. Mine is 33 years old. With mishaps, I've knocked it out twice but had it recemented each time and it's still on and looking great. I lost one wing 20 years ago and amazingly it's still secure. You can use superfloss or waxed floss and thread it in up top (by the gum and above the wing) work the floss up and over top of the fake tooth and pull the floss out. Because I'm missing a wing, I can go up that one side and floss around the tooth to the remaining wing. When this bridge fails someday, I will replace it with, and only with, another Maryland bridge. Also, I wound up going to the lab all those years ago so they could get the look and fit as 'perfect' as possible, it was worth the trip. I had two Maryland bridges before this one and broke both within a year by biting into hard things. Again DON'T BITE into things and DON'T CHEW where the bridge is, it's more or less there for decoration. They are painless, noninvasive and no other teeth will be destroyed. A Maryland bridge in Canada is around $2500 - 3000, so probably a little less in the USA.

      If you're paying $3000 dollars already, why not just commit and get an implant on the lateral incisor. At least you'll be able to actually eat on that site and no tooth structures will be sacrificed.

    • @MissDashwood1
      @MissDashwood1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      @@adrianl.3851 Indeed! But not everyone is a good candidate for an implant. A person must have sufficient bone, which apparently I don't. Also, in Canada, they can cost well in excess of $3000 if the process has any complications or bone grafting or a sinus lift is needed, etc.. Most of my friends have paid around the $8000 mark.
      BTW, I had my 35 year old Maryland bridge replaced 1.5 years ago with porcelain wings this time (rather than metal which showed through my tooth) and it looks and feels terrific. It was C$2300.

      @@MissDashwood1 Hello, I'm 20 and need a replacement tooth for one of my front teeth and can't have an implant for the same sort of reason. When I was 8 I got knocked into a metal water fountain and my tooth needed a root canal after a number of years, after that long process my orthodontist went ahead and man-handled my tooth on my final appointment with them snapping the ceramic on the inside, now I need a bridge most likely. I was wondering if you've noticed anything wrong with the gum above the fake tooth or any other issues while using the Maryland bridge, I'm just concerned of any complications long term. Also, when the Maryland bridges lifespan has been used up, can you simply just get another one made? Or are there any issues in doing this? Thanks in advance.

    (Not a dentist) Why is it neccessary to do that much work on the back of the ajoining two teeth to get the "splint" to properly adhere? Why is the splint curved and pushed so much into the gap? It looks like it's taking up space where the new tooth should go. When placing the final installation why not use cement between the sides of the new tooth and the ajoining teeth? Wouldn't it add some more strength and it doesn't look like you can clean in between them anyway ? Does this leave room below for flossing and toothpicking the real teeth?

    • @admdental.official

      If done correctly, these bridges last many years (We have patients who have had it for 10 years and more). The big advantage of bridges made of composite (as opposed to ceramics) is that even if they do fail (for example if they de-bond or crack), they can be very easily repaired by your dentist during a single office visit.

      No clear answer. There are a lot of factors to consider when deciding between an implant and a bridge: cost, clinical situation, overall health of the neighboring teeth, etc. A non-invasive bridge like this one shown here is cost-effective (a fraction of what an implant would cost) and is a very reliable and long-term solution if reinforced with Dentapreg fibers.

      You should discuss these questions with your dentist as every clinical case is different. You are right that they are less invasive (no pain). Another advantage of adhesive Maryland Bridges over implants is the cost - they are much more affordable. The longevity depends on many factors but we have patients who have had these for over 10 years. If they chip or debond (deattach), they are very easy to fix in a single visit to your dentist.

    Here what is the benefit of rubber dam how dentist will remove ?????????

    • @admdental.official
      @admdental.official  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The rubber dam has a clear benefit almost to the point of necessity - it ensures dry working area which is a must when working with composites. In order to remove it, the dentist simply cuts it and removes it from the teeth.

    • @zulmar5749
      @zulmar5749 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Same question??

    • @admdental.official
      @admdental.official  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The rubber dam is strongly recommended here as it keeps the working place completely dry (which is necessary when working with composites - to protect them from moisture) and then it is removed simply by cutting it with scissors/ or by tearing it.

    If a patient comes with a deep bite how do you manage with this bridge ,which interfere the bite?

    • @admdental.official
      @admdental.official  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Sivakadadcham Sancheevan If a patient has a very tight bite, the adjunct teeth might have to be prepped more - so that the strip forming the retention wings is inserted in the preparations and the wings are "leveled" with the lingual surface of teeth. Alternatively, you could use ultra thin Dentapreg UFM strip (only 0.1 mm thick), such as in this clinical case: goo.gl/Z4a6t9

    I like the white wings on this adhesive bridge and don't like the metal wing look. If I was to approach my dentist, what is the correct name for this white winged bridge? Thank you

    • @admdental.official
      @admdental.official  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      wintervixen This is called Maryland Bridge. The wing retention is made from composite material (the same shade as your teeth) which is reinforced with Dentapreg strips. If you need help finding a dentist in your area that uses Dentapreg, let us know.

      Please give me the name of a dentist in Santa Marta, Magdalena, Colombia. My front middle tooth broke off, into my hands, Saturday afternoon. The local dentist gave me something that resembles/feels like the Maryland Bridge, but is temporary. I don't want to alter the adjacent teeth, which are beautifully shaped (bonded) and I love the natural color, so thank you for a speedy referral.

    no creo que sea una buena prótesis se la ve mas frágil que un puente tradicional, además al no estar totalmente integrado en los dientes adyacentes debe ser muy molesto para toda aquella gente que sea nerviosa y o aprensiva.

    Three question, if possible. I have to create a maryland bridge after orthodontics for a 12 years old child with superior lateral incisive agenesia, will this work till her major age? I saw you isolated stone model, with what? And, what kind of cement did you use? Thanks a lot.

    • @admdental.official
      @admdental.official  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, Dentapreg reinforced bridge is a great solution for tooth agenesis. Several such cases are featured here: www.dentapreg.com/Dentists/Clinical-Cases/Anterior-Bridge

    • @admdental.official
      @admdental.official  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      We do not have any specific product recommendations. For isolating the model, you can use any standard gypsum model isolation/separation liquid. For the cement, it really depends on your preference: Dentapreg products are compatible with all light curing composites.

      Adhesive bridge in frontal area is typically used as a temporary or semi-permanent solution. However, there are many cases where the bridge fulfills its function for years.

      Take very good care
      around those two teeth
      They crowned Do not think because they are crowns they can't get cavities. The area of caution is the gum line.
      Keep it clean there because food can get down to the roots and below gum line causing
      Infection and decay in and around roots. Ok
      first they'll want to do a root canal through the top of the crown, this a previous healthy tooth.
      I won't go into it further
      Keep your teeth and gums clean and healthy..
      God bless you!

    Why can't this be hooked to a crown?

    • @admdental.official
      @admdental.official  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It can be hooked to a crown. Adhesive (composite) bridges reinforced with glass fibers can be attached to the neighboring teeth in many different ways: inlay, onlay, slot, and crown preparation, just to name a few. This video shows a "wing" style retention, which is the least invasive option. If the neighboring teeth are healthy and intact, choosing a minimally invasive solution like this is better than to cut the teeth down to fit the crown.
