I appreciate all the hard work everyone in the secret community has put into the San Francisco area. I was born near San Francisco in the 70s but my parents moved to Texas in 79. We have visited family there many times. With all the hints of the Fairmont and the info you talked about the candy and Aces parking and the radio station really seam to put it in that area. At the hotel or Huntington Park nearby. Powell Street at California seems to check all the boxes. The brink planter with wall behind it with square air holes is genius. Cheers and good luck casque hunters.

When I’m not working on the St. Augustine puzzle, this is my other favorite one to work on. Will definitely look into the Fairmont as part of the solution. However, I did find an exact image match from St Augustine to a map. This is the first concrete evidence that I know of for that puzzle. Happy Hunting

    It's a very strong theory.
Are you sure the 3 high posts where made of wood back in the days, because now they seem in metal ?
In your theory, the beginning is very convincing, but after «Near ace is high», the rest of the verse seem unsolved.
What is running north, but first across ?
What is the object of Twain's attention ?
What is the giant pole ?
Also, we are not even 100% sure this is the good verse for San Francisco... Matching the verse and the picture should be priority number one. Like the Japanese hints says we need to decode the combination of numbers from the poems. It seems easy but nobody find a way in 40 years.

@@FrankDilligafJester I think it's at the Palace of Fine Arts. I've never been there, just Google Streetview searched to "see" there. Everything is giant, super-sized. The lake and adjoining building are shaped like lips, sideways. You can see lips in the painting, particularly the rose and its leaves. The pearl is the dome of the palace. Her fingers give clues to the whereabouts of the "giant steps", the right hand is pointing down in between the third and fourth square on her left sleeve, and the left hand is pointing across, in between the 4 and 5 squares on her right sleeve. You can see on Google the giant steps at the exit at the northeast (I believe) part of the dome. If you go 4 stones across from the bottom and down 3 from the top, in between, you find the step where the casque is buried. The window in the painting is a window in a house across the street from the lake with its curtains pulled closed. The new street view doesn't show curtains drawn, and there are several arched windows that could be it. When you see it, you see it.

As soon as you know Fairmont was a major clue spoken by someone who worked on the book, you'd be pretty dumb to be looking anywhere else aside from around there, also sounds from the sky, the Japanese clue pretty much confirmed it was some sort of radio station clue, so it seems obvious when you see the old photo.
Education/Justice again the Japanese clue says you need to tie it into the prev line not far away, meaning the 3 wooden posts are there aswell, so that confirms it.
Shame the casque seems to have gone over the years, I suspect aside from one or two others, the rest have gone the same way. Unless the planter you mention isnt the giant step,

The Giant step Giant pole is up for interpretation. Just like in the podcast we say it's somewhere down Powell Street.
Maybe someone can find a better one maybe the one we thought wasn't what Byron intended.

    • @martinthespartan1982
      @martinthespartan1982 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Definitely don't agree with the assessment that San Fran is a closed case as a result of this information. It is unfortunate that we are putting more weight in outside comments than Byron's puzzle. So, we can't trust a trained communicator to communicate the answer to his own puzzle, but we can trust outside sources to not misinterpret something they observed and accurately remember details from 40 years ago, when we don't fully know what those comments are based on? I am certainly not knocking the research or the abundance of compelling connections and arguments, but to say this is a closed case, and that it qualifies as stupidity to look elsewhere, is very premature. Seems awfully circumstantial to me.
Lots of things are within 15 minutes of the Tonga Room, assuming that number is accurate. If it's in a planter at the Fairmont, that seems like a long time to be away especially given how quickly JJP describes Byron's digging, although its arguable. Would he also not be concerned with being spotted while digging by someone also patronizing the Tonga Room, or possibly an employee, especially given the parking garage entrance is right there? That doesn't seem like great cover. I also wonder about the legal implications of digging on private property and if Byron was willing to test that.
And do we have confirmation that Byron actually did bury it during the date as opposed to having second thoughts? What if he had been caught and arrested or kicked off property?
The logistics of this spot are very suspicious to me. The planter appears to have a fairly shallow projection for fitting a 6in box into, potentially with plants there, and could be potentially dangerous depending on how "giant" of a "step" we are meant to take, which is seemingly unspecified. I also wonder what the giant pole would have been, which should be directly related to our "giant step". Of course, in order to be "giant", it must be unusually large, which rules out most common contenders like average flag poles. Definitely unsure how we would conclusively identify a precise dig spot. I'm sure we have no way of knowing what was in this planter 40 years ago at the time Byron would have dug, but it seems to have been packed with plants since 2008.
And lots of things begin with the letter F. I know some people believe Coit Tower is involved, which is about 8 minutes from the Tonga Room and adjacent to Filbert St.
The issue with outside information like this, even if from close sources, is that it isn't coming direct from Byron, and we don't know what it is based on. Context is important. What if the "Fairmont clue" referred to was simply the fact that Byron left the Fairmont while on a date with Sandy to bury the casque. Otherwise, which individual clue from Byron's puzzle is decisively referencing the Fairmont?
I still have to listen to the podcast to give a fair assessment, but my concern is this: how is the puzzle clearly communicating this answer? How would we arrive at the same answer relying exclusively on Byron's puzzle? I see many compelling connections, but given that there is one answer for each case, there are many extremely compelling interpretations that are objectively wrong, some of which could possibly be the result of red herring solutions. In my own research, I have abandoned countless compelling connections because those interpretations did not lead to a comprehensive solution that makes sense of the majority of provided information in a compelling way. Look at Lake Park and verse 8 Montreal as a prime example. By some measures, those are both very compelling proposals, and yet, at least one of those is wrong. Food for thought.

Cleveland has proven planter boxes are fair game. It just feels like their needs to be a bigger green space where this one has its final resting location. I fully admit I'm biased based on the other three found casques.
