Rat King boss fight is one of the most iconic parts of TLOU2. The HBO show doesnt have that much infected, just so they feel more like a threat when they appear. TLOU game has a ton of them, because its a video game, so you need to have some enemies to fight to spice up the gameplay.

The longer they are tied together the more sticky substances get involved such as blood and urine, this will get them even more stuck together. it's called the rat king because eventually they will die one by one, the ones still alive feeding on the dead corpses until eventually the last rat to die is the rat king because he/she lasted the longest.

My guess is that what happened was that throughout the years, one of the infected gets agitated runs, randomly and bumps ito another, they get stuck for some reason, maybe their "horns", the hard scale like fungal growth gets entangled like two deers, and eventually the contact of their skin fuses. And then this cycle repeats for other other clickers, each one bumping, getting stuck, then fusing, until they were one huge entity. The process is of this fusion is slow and needs random entanglement but with years left alone, it was inevitable to happen. I'm also guessing the one that got lose after you defeat it for the first time must have been the last to fuse as he was the more lose body.
This was cool to see but one thing you kept alluding too is that there’s more then one, when the rat king was formed under specific circumstances that are near impossible to replicate.
When are we gonna get the biology on shamblers? It is possibly confirmed by the creators that the shamblers are another stage of bloaters, or what i would think, is a mutation of the bloaters when they got their spore bombs, but without all the cordyceps growth acting as armor for the bloater
Rat King is an exotic sidearm from Destiny 2. It’s exotic perks make it so that the weapon fires faster, reloads quicker, and has more ammo in the magazine when other people around you are using it. Furthermore, it also turns you invisible when you reload after a kill.
First time I’ve encountered the rat king in the last of us, I almost shit myself.. I’ve should’ve know there were clues before coming across it,, all the bodies in that hospital.. stupid me.. one of the best most scariest most awesome moments in my personal gaming moments.
