Really interesting half-hour watch. Interviews which add extra background to decision making is a lot more entertaining than just the generic shots of what is in the cabinets that everyone else does.
Many thanks for a great video. As someone not able to attend the show I found it a very enjoyable watch, and how good was Andy from Rapido, what a great example of sensible co-operation between Rapido and Hornby. Did someone once say the hobby was dying? I wonder which planet they were on? Your positivity is heartwarming, so thanks again.
It was a great week-end and it was a pleasure to be on the buttons out here, helping with Jenny and Zoe's livestream...albeit I was well late on the Sunday. You did some great interviews yourself there, sir. Talking with John, much more than "The Guru Of Sound" at Ellis Clarke and Steve at Accurascale, the lads from the Llangollyn Railway with 'Douglas', Tom at Buggleskelly, Andy at Rapido trains, with the "Design Your Own Wagon" and Aw, Craig, when Lyndon received his Award...what words are there. He's still a huge figure, for all he's been through and I'm glad Eloise has been brought up with the family trade and carrying on the Oxford Diecast Brand. Great to see Jenny and Zoe enjoying themselves too. I'm getting round other folks video's too but thank you for a great video and positive words for a Festival Of Trains that folks thought was lost. Here's to next year. Cheers!
Yes, i enjoyed the show. Why leave half the hall empty? Could have spread out what they had. The Isles were a bit overcrowded, and i attended the Sunday show which was quieter. I have several models on order and was nice to see them in the flesh before delivery. Some good layouts, and had a chat with people from various manufactures. In all a good day. Will be there next year. Might stay over and do both days
It was brilliant to chat with you, it was a fantastic show and for my first ever visit to the NEC, I was impressed overall. I'm sure there were bits I missed, I certainly didn't stop at every trader or layout on my way round. Just remember, if you ever consider building a module, the invite is there :)
Great work young Craig !!!! Some have said it wasn’t a patch on ‘Warley’ !!!! I think it was a lot better than the old BRM Peterborough show (held around the same time) for content and enthusiasm. I missed the Oxford presentation so I was glad to see poor Taff getting due recognition. Last year on the day of his unfortunate episode, he had presented the inventor of Hornby live steam Richard Hallam with a similar award for services rendered. Onwards and upwards eh old bean!!!
Nice summary! Interesting to hear from other well known figures in your interviews too. Good to see you and say hi on Saturday at the Sawyers stand. I had a great day, had to bail about 2 as my back had had enough!
Very well done! Nice interviews, good discussion, and some laughs and banter. I think it is smart to start small, even if it's a classic venue at a classic time. I am sure a few major marketers held back to see how it would go. As an Outsider, The only negatives I heard were of the parking and entrance price totals. TO me, you are paying for an experience, so deciding if something is worth it or not comes only after the fact. If word of mouth continues to be positive on these channels, I am sure it will be even better next year. I always root for these things, even if I can not attend them.
Hope the fence you got from www scenic looks good I did yes hi but you where busy and that fine very interesting take on the show really well worth the 12,000 mile trip
Cool! It was a good show, I saw you and Jenny but you where busy talking and I did not want to interrupt! Will def be back at this one next year despite the 5 hour drive from and back to Cornwall 😊
I enjoyed the show and enjoyed seeing you, Jenny, Zoe and others there as well. I honestly thought the idea of riding a minature train indoors was strange lol, but I guess it can be done I suppose.
Looks as though you had a great time Craig! Steve from Accurascale is right when asked about duplication- it's also great that we'll have a choice of Austerities/J94s catering for all price brackets. And as for the Quad Art; just stunning..
Hi, great video of the people who make the hobby what it is, when it comes to duplication why doesn’t another manufacturer produce the JJA auto ballaster wagons? Bachmann have been producing them on and off for 14 years, the prices are eye watering now in my opinion even though the model hasn’t changed other than the livery in all those years, there is no competition so the price is heavily inflated because Bachmann are greedy! Their Windhoff MPV set is around 12 years old and again the mouldings haven’t changed but the cabs on the power/dummy cars have been updated to the present livery, the price tag on the packs have tripled, when there’s no competition the manufacturers especially Bachmann overprice their items all the time, when the retailers have sales the prices can be very sensible and realistic hence they sell very well. Maybe Ellis Clarke will produce a maintenance crane with some functionality unlike the EFE Rail model that he’s been released recently, thanks for sharing.
Great video Craig, saw you Saturday on Jenny’s stand, couldn’t get near, she was certainly a centre of attention 😉 I was a little disappointed on the size of the show, but hopefully it will grow as time goes on 👍🏻
I think we're spoiled to the bone with all the new releases to come and it's great that people are honored for their part in the hobby, it's them that make it possible the we're spoiled with a very big variety. The Hornby Rapido agreement, we only can applaud the manufacturing companies come to their senses, and we as customers don't have to look at a violent competition that brings us nowhere. Some people are saying now," it's still competition and it will bring less profit for one or the other". So I got a suggestion for Hornby & Rapido, I hope they read this, bring out a twin pack with one model of each producer in a Rapido Hornby box, that will be so unique and I predict a sale that they hardly keep up with. Should my idea be used, I hope they will be thankful for my idea, I will get a free sample for this brilliant idea…😜🤣
Wot! no shades Craig? 😉 Good to catch your review as I could not make this "new" show. good bunch of interviews and good sense from Steve and Andy that will give us better model choices and secure the future of the hobby. Were Cav and Alex there, so you could get their take on the D word? Did I hear Steve right - 3 runs of Austerity are planned already? Looking forward to your special review when he "lends" you one!
I enjoyed the show, for the first run from new organisers they did well. I think things like more seating will be addressed in future. As for the future, live demonstrations would be good, or interviews with people in the hobby, as the cinema area was popular. On a personal level, as a TT 120 modeller more TT layouts would be wonderful.

Good to hear from the manufacturers so thanks for catching up with some of them 👍👍 Top video pal looking forward to the next 👍👍 Ps like I said of Facebook I knew you’d give in and get a 40 😂😂😂😂
This was only my second show since coming back to the hobby a year and a half ago (Bognor was the other) but I thoroughly enjoyed myself. It was great to see this show rise like a phoenix from the ashes of what has gone. Great to meet you Craig (and Zoe) and chat and I look forward to more shows in the coming year. Just as an aside, I was so impressed with everything that I actually purchased nothing, can you believe that! I will try harder next time.
@@CarolFlavinlocoladies was a shame, would have been lovely I have a chat and a catch up Carol, hopefully you can make it to settle model rail festival next year :) ❤️❤️
Looks like it was a great show and hopefully will be bigger and better next year. Hopefully Bachmznn and Dapol will be there as you say, and I'll certainly be picking up a Dapol Western and maybe a Mogul or something like that. Their Factory Seconds stand is well worth a look too. Unfortunately I got dragged into work at the ungodly hour of before 10 am and so was unable to go. Still, it stopped me spending money I don't have...
Nice roundup mate and some cracking little interviews. Living over in Europe i can normally only make 1 show a season, and have gone with model rail Scotland this year, but I think it could be this one next season 🎉
My only criticism is that the floor layout could have done with a bit more thought. There were layouts stuffed away in awkward places between busy trade stands (that fantastic American layout out to the left of the entrance for example) or just left out in no-mans land (Trinity Dock). Some of the aisles suffered this too, busy trade stands on both sides at relatively narrow bottlenecks, then reams of space at other places which were quiet all day long. Warley had decades of experience in organising this show, and had it set out very well. Hopefully Warners will develop from their own experiences, and I think going forward the show can only improve.
All well and good going to the big shows, unfortunately they're too far away from Scotland (yes I go to Glasgow every year). I go to most of the small shows round and about and get better bargains and at least I get to chat to more people.
Just watched this and very interesting one thing I noticed when you Interviewed the man from Accurascale was it me or was he really big head about the all the product they and the are better that everyone else that what it seem like to me and other product manufacturer interview were informative. When it comes to Accurascale let just say I will not be buying any of there products I have reason for it which I will bore you to death with.
Sorry I do not agree with unnecessary duplication of models even if the two companies agree. There are plenty of models in the various ranges which would benefit from an upgrade. We still do not have an RTR model of the standard 3mt tender loco. A decent D49 would be nice, some of the North British locos I would buy especially tank engines, J and N class. I have a J52 ordered, I will not be buying a second Hornby one. The price of coaches gone through the roof with lots of competition, I now just wait for the sales before I buy. Dance Hall Brake van half price, its in the post, full price no chance. My ex LSWR three coach country set, half price, I am waiting to run it on my layout but it is my sticky hands. Maybe everyone does have lots of money but I do not but I will buy my pennies on quality and reliable engines but I can only afford so many and variety is the spice of life, not duplication.
Two opinions on "duplication" are in this video - perhaps you missed them, or just don't agree - either way, it's not always feasible to make a loco, even though it might be what you want - I would love a Furness 20, Sharp Stewart 0-4-0 tender, but it's very unlikely to happen!
I like these videos where they interview key figures at the show rather than just an endless series of layouts without commentary.
Great video Craig !! Very insightful interviews.
