    I'm a longtime Australian subscriber to your channel and passionate M43/Lumix user - and your reviews are always high-quality. I'm posting this first-ever comment on your channel because I've spent extended time in Bratislava (especially a couple of month-long sabbaticals in 1992 and 1997) and this video brings back some very many fond memories I have of your hometown. This is some of the my favourite footage you have taken of Bratislava and it is great to see your city today in this light.

      You're welcome! I use very high bit-rate to get the best IQ possible, but there is still some amount of YT compression, so all these cameras are even better than what you see here on YT.

    • @TheHybridShooter

      It is not visible in the original file so it is caused by original resolution / upload resolution / viewing device resolution mismatch and YT compression.

    @hughan00 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thank you for this great review. I’m thinking of these for orchestral recordings. However there are times when I would need two hours’ continuous shooting. Could I achieve this by recording at 1080? I really need the low light capability, not so much the 4K….

  • @MinerDolan

    Great review as always! How would you say the dynamic range and walking stabilization compares to the DJI Osmo Pocket? Do you think the difference between the quality of the footage between these two is significant/noticeable? Thanks!

    • @TheHybridShooter
      @TheHybridShooter  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Those two shoot completely different type of footage so they are not directly comparable. One R captures more detail and DR due to the larger sensor. Stabilization differences depend on specific situation.

    I have a few questions for you about this camera:
    1) Can I attach a graduated neutral density filter to it?
    2) Can I output the video to an external monitor via HDMI, such as a SmallHD Focus?
    3) Can I power the camera via USB? I would like at least 3 hours of running time.
    4) Can I control exposure wirelessly via my smart phone? I would like to be able to control shutter speed and ISO. I understand aperture is fixed.
    5) Can you verify that I can shoot 24 fps? Their website says yes, but B&H has only 30 fps listed.
    Your videos are always very objective and concise, and I always appreciate them! Thanks!

      @@TheHybridShooter Thank you for taking the time to respond. I appreciate it! If I may, I have one more follow-up question.
      If I have no way of monitoring the video remotely (and seeing zebras, for example), then there's no reason for me to try and control the camera's exposure remotely. So, is there ANY way to see the footage remotely and judge exposure accurately (with zebras, for example)? I was hoping to use my 5" SmallHD Focus, but if I can use the same app (smart phone) that I control exposure with (which you said is possible) to judge exposure, maybe that would work fine.

    Hi, great stuff! I’m not sure if you can help me.
    3 questions on things I’ve read on Insta360 1 inch:
    1) max record time of 28-29mins. Does that improve if using an external battery pack?
    2) When using external battery packs, you need to press the ON/OFF every 10mins? Means, I can’t leave it alone to record a 2 hr footage?
    3) Are there any recording gaps when shooting longer videos? I.e. the cam saves the video into smaller blocks of 30mins and are there any gaps between those files?
    Usage will mainly for my drumming footage for concerts and as an action cam also.
    Considering this Vs GoPro 9

    Hi! I have untypical question. How about audio control in that camera? I mean audio through USB C to minijack adapter. Can it be controlled somehow? Is there any gain settings? Is input of good quality? I am searching for something very tiny that can be mounted on mic stand to record choir competitions with audio fed from Zoom F1. I know that Sony RX0 II will do the job and can be equipped with wide angle converter, but Insta 360 one R 1 inch seems to be much better at lowlight. However, with no control over audio, it is of little use to me. Do you have any insight on that?

      @@TheHybridShooter seems like a solvable problem though. The Ricoh Z1 has 2 1” sensors, but kind of useless video features...and a worse codec. Expensive? That will depend on market saturation, competition and demand. You could say a 500usd action camera is expensive too or a 1,3k phone is ridiculous...but if you find use for it professionally, it won’t make a difference. Or even for fun, why not^^ if there’s a market for it, they will buy it.

    • @TheHybridShooter
      @TheHybridShooter  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not, really. At least not at this stage of technology. Z1 can only shoot UHD, which means that they didn't solve the overheating. Useful dual 1" 360 would be much large and much more expensive than 1K USD. I don't think that there is a market for 1000 USD + consumer 360 camera, people are mostly buying those for fun. I tried this camera and returned it back due to several issues. The first one is the video codec. It uses INSV format which is not compatible with many common video editing software like FCPX I use. It takes forever to export the INSV to MP4 in its Studio software. Secondly it takes several seconds to shoot a single still photo which is not tolerable for some action photography. Thirdly lots of the smart phone editing app themes are not useable on this camera, like the Timeshift hyperlapse feature. So even I like the IQ but I think it has much left for improvement in the future updates.

    • @TheHybridShooter
      @TheHybridShooter  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You can set it to shoot .mp4 out of the camera if you computer isn't capable of processing .insv files or use lower resolution. Exporting .insv files is very fast on my computer. For action shooting you can use burst mode to shoot multiple pictures. I'm not sure what do you mean by "phone editing app themes" but editing timelapses works fine on my smartphone.

      The Hybrid Shooter Thanks for the response. But I still have some questions and maybe you can help me out. I know the 4K module can shoot mp4 direct but on this 1 inch module to shoot 5K video I don’t know where you can set the MP4 direct output. The only workaround is to change the .insv to .mp4 on the file name but all the FOV and stabilization are not applied. When I tried to export 5K video with FOV from insv to mp4 on my iMac it is slow and I saw same comments from different users. 5K is the main selling point of this camera so they should add mp4 output option. For shooting still I don’t need burst shooting I just don’t understand why it takes so long to complete the shooting of a single photo. Maybe it’s buffer too small? On the camera you can pick Timeshift shooting mode but when I tried to edit the clip on the app the Timeshift clips I shot cannot be found so the cool Hyperlapse feature does not apply to the one inch module which is confirmed by the manufacturer too. There are two more deal break issues. When I shoot timelapse or interval photos the camera does not support live view anymore. Also the live view is not showing the correct exposure change when the shutter speed is lower than 1/30s. Those are all my concerns and maybe I missed some steps to set the camera right? Thanks!

      As HyBrid shooter said, processing the INSV files isn't bad on my one year old laptop. Now, 5.3K videos can take awhile for me. I think that is understandable. If you want to edit and get rid of the clips later, export to Prores. My only issue that nobody mentions is it will only record a maximum of 90 minutes and 1 second before it stops recording, then it takes 45 seconds to save the file, and starts back recording again.

    Most natural looking stabilization that you have ever tested? It wobbles and flickers. Look at trees deformation at 5:17. Otherwise nice review. Thank you 💪

      Thank you, I don't see any wobble there and don't know what do you mean by "flickers", so I can't comment on that.

      @@TheHybridShooter I see flickering in background at 5:00.

      I don't know what exactly is causing, but I don't think that it is stabilization. That was shot on very bright day and there is strong sunlight coming from behind the trees, so it may be something with automatic exposure.

    Opinioning stabilisation while walking? Come on! Run with it... Hmmm?

    • @TheHybridShooter
      @TheHybridShooter  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I see no reason to do that.

      @@TheHybridShooter I understand Your reasons but claiming it to be "the best You've ever seen" and testing it only while walking seems a bit funny. All in all it's an action camera and most people will buy for action footage.

      @Mo2o Xplorers Not really, most people are actually buying action cameras to use them as point-and-shoot cameras.
      Shooting while running is IMO not a reasonable thing to do, so I will not test that.

    it's a pity not a gimbal camera

      Put it on a gimbal. I don't know of a 1 inch sensor gimbal camera. It's a pity my Volkswagen isn't a Ferrari.
