- US President Biden has said demonstrators have the right to peacefully protest, but not to cause chaos. Biden stated that he doesn't want to deploy the National Guard to US campuses, where students have been protesting Israel's war in Gaza and the resulting humanitarian crisis. DW’s William Glucroft sheds light on the similarities and differences between recent US pro-Palestinian student protests and the 1968 protests against the war in Vietnam.

“Anti war movements in the 1960s had gov support” ?
What is this guy smoking?
Several further-left Dems like EugeneMcCarthy, RFK, GeorgeMcGovern, etc... But, yes, the Dem establishment, like the Repubs demonized the anti-war movement, although much more divided on civil rights protests.
Shh you're ruining the media's fantasy narrative. Don't mention AIPAC either!
It's sickening to even here the phrase " national guard".. Who are we protecting here? Natanyahoo regime or American citizens?
people who need to go to work or attend class but can't because streets and campus entrances are being blocked are also American citizens. you're right to protest does not extend to blocking others' freedom of movement or trespassing on private property (yes, most of these universities are private property)
The truth that no protestors want to admit is that there are NO "good guys" in this conflict.
Power to the PEOPLE !🇨🇦
Is it USA democracy not to allow students for peaceful demonstration?
They're mostly not students.
I see no violence to the people. but the police arrested them in violence.
Because USA has been under Xi Jinping's administration 😁
Calling for violence is not peaceful
heres a little secret, USA is not really a democracy.
Is this supposed to constitute journalism? Why not interview student organisers of the protest before you analyse their intentions? And as for political support, where's the analysis of the influence of AIPAC???
Because they've got a limited number of reporters in the US which can't travel half way across the country for a 5 minute blurb...
And which of those 3 dozen organizers?
Who has the right to speak for all of the others?
@@militant_pacifist Oh please. No travelling required when technology exists to plug that gap. A key organiser is SJP ( Students for Justice in Palestine) - contact details can be googled.

Right so if I disagree with any law I can just ignore it and call myself a protester, however breaking that law still makes me a criminal and it still means I will go to jail.
Supporting a religious far-right regime is not fighting injustice, it's supporting it.

He spoke to a professor but in todays journalistic practice it's not necessary any more to give his name. Sources are not relevant any more. That's modern journalism.
True, that's infact very often agitation and not journalism any more. Also a sign of decline of democracy...
The reason is AIPAC.
What you’re missing is the tiny percent of young people who are participating in these protests, especially with the level of commitment where it would affect their vote. After days of disruption, the police clear up the tents and arrest the 200 people who thought they were special enough to take up the entire lawn and get classes cancelled for 40,000 people. Also how little the participants understand about what’s happening in the Middle East. The other protest topics you mentioned were all about issues which affected people’s daily lives and had very broad support among the population.
The swing in public opinion polls against Israel says otherwise. The real thing they're missing is AIPAC and similar lobbies. Sadly in the US, money is what wins elections (~90%) and the Israel lobby has a massive hand in where money goes. We shouldn't let foreign governments have this influence, but that's how it works now.

You have nothing to fear from Trump. You have everything to lose with Biden/Harris.
In the USA it is state (province) level governors who will or will not deploy the national guard for local matters like this. So while President Biden's policy statement is better leadership than you may remember from the previous president, the press seems to be almost universally misrepresenting the situation.

Why didn't they get someone who was actually alive in the 60's? This guy obviously has no clue.
But he referenced a professor who was [alive then].
I agree. There was very little support for the campus protests against the Vietnam war. The whole media landscape of that time, as well as, the vast majority of political elite was extremely hostile towards the anti-war movement of the 60s. Many of the students protesting today would have actually been jailed if it was still the 60s.
As he said, there are key differences between the protests of the 60's and the current protests. One, we don't have boots on the ground in any war currently. These current protests are very misguided and not based on facts.
