Chinese made Bucks have always been a great value for the budget knives you usually find in sporting goods stores. Even the American Bucks have a light spring though
Just received mine today walmart online, cost $13, and some change, I'm really happy with that! I was looking for a good pocket knife that didn't cost a lot because I'm always misplacing or losing things. This Buck fit the bill. Great review btw!
I bought a Buck 345 over 10 years ago at Academy for $20. It's a single lock blade with a pocket clip. It is my EDC and was the best $20 I ever spent on anything. American-made Bucks are inexpensive and solid.
@@ThriftyKaniffy that’s good it’s a great little 5th pocket carry!!!!! I’ll be curious you see what you think of it!!!!! I want to see if anyone likes it as much as me….. or am I just a canoe freak and that could very well be the case lol be well!!!!!! If you don’t mind what’s your name??
Thanks for the heads up on a great deal I found it I love great deals like that plus it's a buck knife great thanks for the video to thanks for being a hard-working American thanks for being a knife lover KLF knife life forever
Dang, didn’t realize Buck made knives in China, but that sounds like Walmart. I carried a Buck Stockman 35 years ago, but think that would be the 301 Stockman. Also carried the 319 Stockman and am probably one of the few who has actually used the leather punch to repair tack while in the high country with horses. Thanks for the review. I’ll avoid Chinese Bucks.
Title appropriate, price is as stated. My first traditional & stockman knife. I love it. I'm hooked. SMKW here I come. I paired it with the Buck 375 for my watch pocket ($11.08 @ Walmart). Thank you, TF, love your channel.
Just bought this one and the Buck 389 @ Walmart for $13.29 and $11.37. They charged me $5.99 additionally, since I was below the minimum order fee (whatever) and another $2 tax so I came out paying about $33 for both. Excellent!
I got one a year or two ago. It's surprisingly good in fit and finish. The springs seem normal to me, but I don't use slip joints much. The steel seems fine for occasional small tasks. It can't be too bad, because it doesn't instant burr when sharpening. GEC would charge $140, only it would be out of stock.
Thrifty, I got two of these at that bargain Walmart price. The first one had the back springs a bit proud when opened and a bit low when folded. The bone covers were also drastically different. One was beautiful amber brown and the other was nearly cream colored. Regardless, I purchase a second knife and it arrived near perfect. Springs well fit, good walk and talk and stunning brown bone handles. For the price these can't be beat and they both came razor sharp.
Man, you find the deals on these. I nabbed a couple of these to EDC and keep as whittlers. After I accidentally left my 501 Larrin stealth run in my jeans when they went through the washer and dryer, I started EDCing the 13 dollar stuff.
Hi Thrifty, i have the Buck 371 in Rosewood. Same light blade pulls but you get used it and are aware when you know this. Very nice knife however i find most Buck knives have sharp edges. I got some 2000 grit on the Rosewood just to take the edges off and make it a bit rounder and smoother. Adore it now. Sits on my work desk and would not change it. A nice traditional knife. Just know that you have to treat it with respect with regard to the light blade pull but it is not an issue. Good video by the way.
Thanks for the feedback Paul. I've done the same smoothing on several knives. You can really improve a knife with minimal effort in this way. The interior edges of liners can be well sharp so sometimes it's essential.
Got one of these when they first came out a few years ago and has been fantastic. It is a bit of a odd ball among my other Chinese bucks since half are the stagalon and red wood handle variety but that don't bother me since it had been a faithful companion and still very usable but I have since upgraded to a large jigbone CV Case stockman.
I got one of these from Walmart, but did not order it! I ordered a Buck canoe and they sent me this in the canoe box. I was going to return it, but did not have one of these anyway. I then reordered the canoe and now have both!
I had a similar thing happen. They open these for customers in the store and switch boxes around and mix them up. Then when it comes time to fill an online order they don't have one in a warehouse nearby so they ship from a store and you get the wrong item sometimes. Thanks, Cranston.
I got two canoe knives from separate walmarts. First one I ordered online and had IT brought to my car. It had a huge gap I could see through and scratched up blades. So I took it back and after 40 minutes was able to get a new one for the online price. The employees had no ideal they price match. At the othe Wal-Mart it was the same amount of time waiting for an employee. I wanted to look through several before I bought one. . They had 3. The blades were all good but they all had slight gaps. I still got one for use and the other I'll keep unused. The red bone makes its a very pretty knife.
Great build quality zerro gapping on that $13 knife i find it amazing that a lot of high end other knife makers can not do as well.....420 HC keeps it's edge a bit longer than 420j2 but 420j22 is a little more rust proof not much dif between them realy. The spey blade does look odd & the week spring may cost you a little blood if your not careful but all in it is a bargain & it is a pretty good looking knife it will give Rough Ryder some competition.
It's a Chinese Buck but it's good. Actually the American steel would be 420j2 with a decent temper. The Chinese steel today is quite good. I picked up the very tiny buck double blade from Walmart. Makes a great exacto type blade for 12 dollars. China builds all these knives to the companies specifications and quality control specifications. Which is why I like rough ryder and marbles as much as my American Bucks. For me,it's the knife itself not the brand.
Do you mean the Buck Deuce, T Cup? I've seen it at WM as well. Some brands are more consistent than others, but I agree with that statement. Welcome to the channel.
The 301 is the same size. I've got both knives, and to be honest I find the springs rather weak on both of them. But I still really enjoy both knives, and if you like to whittle it's worth the extra money to get the 301 with the 420HC. Less sharpening. I do really like the color of the China made model's covers, though. Cheers, buddy.
It mainly caught me by surprise because I'm so used to having the spey blade on the right side when looking at the back of the knife. All my RR stockman are that way. All the best Sebastian.
For the nice finish on the knife and having three springs, it's to bad they are so weak. It's more of a looker then a user in that way. Thank you for showing TK,
What did you use to polish your bolsters? I pick one of these up today (1/4/23) for 13$ as well. Nice little knife. It will be in my watch pocket at work for a secondary knife.
I have the canoe version; I like it a lot. Watch that shield though! I'm always dropping the knife, because I'm always playing with it. I've only dropped it in the house on the wood floors, but the shield popped off today, so be aware. It doesn't look so good with an empty carved out oval, and no shield. I think the shield is metal, although a magnet won't pull it, but magnets don't attract all metal.
No, only seen the Chinese made Bucks with wood scales in this country. Returned a Canoe because of the weak backspring. Hopefully, Heinnies does some good black Friday deals this year so we get a bargain too!
