Love Shinedown sweet humble guys I've met them multiple times. They don't have a lot of lyrics they want the music to get to people. They give to lots of charities, one being suicide prevention. Brent Smith is one of the best vocalists in rock.
Please don't be offended, I am actually quite interested in debating this. But yes some of this comment will be dripping with sarcasm. OK, here we go. 😂 Interesting approach, take an uplifting and relatively supportive song and view the fact that it's easily broken down and understood by everyone negatively. Of course, you are welcome to your opinion, even if it is wrong. 😉 I would argue that not every song needs to be complex just for the sake of being complex. That would be pretentious, and annoying. Particularly when doing so would completely destroy the songwriters intention and all for the sake of trying to appear witty. It's a waste of time when you already know that the writer can be witty from their other works. And if that is true, why take time to knock them for failing to produce a lyrical treasure with every song? Especially when the emotional impact more than makes up for it. This song was written to be relatable and digestible by everyone. Made to show that people feeling this way are not bizarre and defective creatures. That was the entire point, to show that EVERYONE feels this way sometimes and this intention is evident from the video. Why else make EVERY book being held by others in the library have the same title, "A Symptom of Being Human." I mean, it's almost as if they were trying to make a point there. The entire production was relatively simple, including the music, and purposely so. Yes, Ship of Fools is a term that's been around since what? Mid 300 BC? However, it's meaning is easily understood, i.e. doesn't require a Google search or literature degree to decode, AND its actually relevant here! How rare is that? It completely exemplifies the ridiculousness of comparing yourself to, and being made to feel insecure by, others who are bumbling through life themselves, like fools. Sailing down a river of time they cannot slow or stop, thus are helpless. I'd argue it is the perfect and most succinct term to use. What lyrics would you suggest could replace the term while preserving the spirit of the song without requiring an entire rewrite? Surely you must have ideas? Besides, knocking music you don't personally enjoy is kind of High School stuff isn't it? Surely you've grown since then. OK... Now, fight me. 🥷🥷🏻🥷🏽🥷🏿🥷🏾 🤣
Unmmm. We liked the song. Not sure what to fight you about. As grown adults. We don’t engage in silly disputes. Surely you’ve grown since high school too.
