Like most people, I had no idea you could freeze them!! It's good to know I won't be wasting any more money throwing out my expensive avocados!! Thank you!!
Great tip! Frozen avocados are great for blending into smoothies, in baked goods, and most definitely recipes that involve smashing or blending (guacamole or dressings, for example). It certainly minimizes waste, which is a huge plus!
HalleluYah!! Thank you so much Martha! Avocado is a mainstay of my vegan diet..My local Aldi's grocery store runs big sales on them at 29-59 cents each, I would buy quite a few but sometimes they would get over ripe before I could use them..thank you again for your wisdom..God bless you and yours.. :)
I didn't either! I'm the only person here at home that really likes them, so this is great information - I have thrown out so many avocados which were fed up with waiting for me, such a waste. Thank you, Martha!
Wow! I freeze other fruits that way - strawberries, raspberries, peaches, plums as well as many others, but I always thought avocados went brown even if you only chilled them, even before peeling. I'll certainly have a go at this! Thank you for the great tip.
Good to know. Thank you. I didn't know avocados could be frozen. One suggestion: put a silicon sheet on the tray that goes in the freezer. This way, it's gonna be way easier to remove the avocados and place them in a ziploc bag, once they're frozen.
I just made avocado butter with lemon juice as I have a tree too. I'm getting a chest freezer from my sister too. So I'm thinking I'll make up batches of the butter and freeze it!
Back in the 80's, I was studying nutrition at Miami-Dade college and I roomed/boarded with a family. The mom of the house had a lot of friends with gardens, and one friend in particular had a large Hass Avocado tree in the backyard. In June/July when they are ready, they are like apples and fall to the ground. When people have trees like this, sometimes they take shopping bags to work with all the fruit so they don't get rats coming to eat the fruit. This approach helps people in situations like that. I live in Chicago, and we have to pay a lot of money for avocados. (sometimes almost a dollar apiece!) Sometimes when I see the prices I think back to seeing that tree with all the avocados on the ground and wish we could have that situation here. Alas, though I have apple trees, so I'll trade ya! lol!
Very interesting variety of avocado. Never seen one with smooth skin; in my area they have tough knobby skin and are much smaller in size. Thanks for posting!
Thank you for this video. I recently. Bought some frozen avocados at the store. That was my first time buying them. And now I see your video. On how to preserve them Thank you.
Thanks for sharing! Great idea for smaller pieces rather than big halves! I have never seem that type of avacado.. only of different ones including mostly the Hass.
I don't know what the type we get in uk are called but they are small with gnarly thick dark green skin which are usually sold in supermarkets and are rock hard . you get them home and the next day they've usually gone bad. Never had a nice one yet. the ones in this video look lovely.
@another swan: sounds like you're getting the Hass variety, which is very common. there's some online info you can search for that may help with picking a good one (there's a trick for removing the stem to see if you're getting one with brown strings in it)
Beautiful avocado you got very good healthy fruits I love it I never know how good it is until few years ago I saw this healthy fresh fruits on. My IPad how good they are for your health care now I love them very much eat often thank you for sharing your beautiful fruits
Thanks for the information. I am Puerto Rican and I grew up with these kinds of avocados. I had no idea that you could freeze them. I can’t wait to try this. I have not seen these in the southern states of USA. I love the creamy hass from California and I love them for guacamole much better than the one in the video.
I'll have to try this. I also BRINE avocado slices. Put them in salt water for perhaps 30 hours at room temperature to ferment, and then put them in the fridge. You may get a little grayness on the surface, but even so you can scrape that off. I just ate avocado on my salad that was 2 weeks old, very slightly fermented, and it was very good. Avocado pickles, is what some called this method.
Bless you! I have wasted so much money on overripened avocados 🥑. When I bought them they were unripe then I let them sit, and can’t eat them quickly enough. I’m going to try your preservation method. A million likes ❤️
I haven't see avocados that big and beautiful for decades since I moved to the states. I used to have my own tree in my backyard, same as banana and plantain plants. Too cold here, all I can grow are small trees that I can take indoors during winter.
Rainbow Panda says I’m always giving to family, friends, teachers from my son’s school and neighbors so perhaps that’s why my tree produces so much because I’m generous. This year already gave over 1000 avocados away plus the ones we eat at home and we still have some in the tree. My uncle came a month ago to climb the tree and cut the ones from the very top and just those were 450. He took those to give to his friends and neighbors.
Thanks for sharing your video with us. I freeze them too for icy refreshing smoothie. I add milk and sweetener and blend it. In Ethiopia they do that but in the USA I learned to add them to salad or make a guacamole out of it. All ways are delicious. I love love love avocados.
Martha, I haven't tried this yet but plan to. I believe if you place a sheet of parchment paper in the pan first, before placing your already citrus spritzed avocado down, that it may not stick to the paper and will be removed easily. I'm going to give it a try. Thanks for the freezing tip though. I didn't know you could freeze it. However I do know it will last a few days in an AIRTIGHT container which has had fruit pectin dissolved in the water first before placing the avocado half with pit, face down. Keeps beautifully. A 2nd tip is to place it in an AIRTIGHT container with only a half peeled onion. As we know onion absorbs any bacteria This too works for a day or 2.
When its thawed will it have same texture & taste as b4 it was frozen? I havent been able 2 find even one video on that on youtube though heaps of vids on freezing. Maybe U could do video on that. Ive never known fruit/veg 2 be same after freezing but others arent mostly fat, so not sure what 2 expect. Avacados here are ridiculously expensive, so I dont want 2 attempt freezing if its not at least almost the same once frozen & thawed. Is it slimy, taste different etc?
@@MARTHASWORLD Hello, and thank you so much for the info. The hubby and I often enjoy avocados in our smoothies, and I am a fanatic for avocado toast, and even just as a side with meals. You can do the same with bananas as well
That's blasphemy!!!
Throwing away avocado.....nooooooo!!

Amy Whitman me too
If you bought the avocado that day and you open it to brown you can return it for an exchange.
lemon is the key to preserve the color
Ive been doing this with blueberries and raspberries but never thought to do it with avocado! Thank you for the tip!

Good idea for the coming season. I used to see so many wasted under the tree. Thanks for sharing.
Nice one. I also keep close-to-ripe ones in the fridge whole to slow down the ripening by a lot.
RosFromSA will do that. Thank you for the idea. Now that I bought a new larger fridge, I got room for them.
Are they soggy after taking out of the freezer/thawing?
@@cali.songbird I don't freeze them.

Very smart idea! I used to wonder how to freeze them without the pieces sticking to each other. Now I know. Thank you.
If you don't have a scraper to lift the frozen pieces off, you could line the tray with wax/parchment paper. Makes your work more efficient.
Brilliant! With avocados always ready in the portions I need will help me add more of this healthful food to my diet.
Thanks Martha, I really enjoy your videos and find them very helpful. Keep up the good work and stay blessed.

No. I tried making avocado smoothies with frozen Hass avocado (not the type in the video). Tasted far from fresh.

The look similar to Florida (green) avacados. Most people in the states are used to Haas avacados.

Terri-TN of course its not the same more mushy and it browns a little in the thawing
It don't turn brown bcoz the lemon you squeeze on avocado prevents it from turning brown
