Great tip! Frozen avocados are great for blending into smoothies, in baked goods, and most definitely recipes that involve smashing or blending (guacamole or dressings, for example). It certainly minimizes waste, which is a huge plus!

Avocado is a mainstay of my vegan diet..My local Aldi's grocery store runs big sales on them at 29-59 cents each, I would buy quite a few but sometimes they would get over ripe before I could use them..thank you again for your wisdom..God bless you and yours.. :)

I don't know what the type we get in uk are called but they are small with gnarly thick dark green skin which are usually sold in supermarkets and are rock hard . you get them home and the next day they've usually gone bad. Never had a nice one yet. the ones in this video look lovely.

@another swan: sounds like you're getting the Hass variety, which is very common. there's some online info you can search for that may help with picking a good one (there's a trick for removing the stem to see if you're getting one with brown strings in it)

Wow! I freeze other fruits that way - strawberries, raspberries, peaches, plums as well as many others, but I always thought avocados went brown even if you only chilled them, even before peeling. I'll certainly have a go at this! Thank you for the great tip.

Back in the 80's, I was studying nutrition at Miami-Dade college and I roomed/boarded with a family. The mom of the house had a lot of friends with gardens, and one friend in particular had a large Hass Avocado tree in the backyard. In June/July when they are ready, they are like apples and fall to the ground. When people have trees like this, sometimes they take shopping bags to work with all the fruit so they don't get rats coming to eat the fruit. This approach helps people in situations like that. I live in Chicago, and we have to pay a lot of money for avocados. (sometimes almost a dollar apiece!) Sometimes when I see the prices I think back to seeing that tree with all the avocados on the ground and wish we could have that situation here. Alas, though I have apple trees, so I'll trade ya! lol!

I'll have to try this. I also BRINE avocado slices. Put them in salt water for perhaps 30 hours at room temperature to ferment, and then put them in the fridge. You may get a little grayness on the surface, but even so you can scrape that off. I just ate avocado on my salad that was 2 weeks old, very slightly fermented, and it was very good. Avocado pickles, is what some called this method.

Good to know. Thank you. I didn't know avocados could be frozen. One suggestion: put a silicon sheet on the tray that goes in the freezer. This way, it's gonna be way easier to remove the avocados and place them in a ziploc bag, once they're frozen.

    Wow!
After all this time it’s been said to never freeze avocados. I’m going to purchase a bulk of them and follow this!
    Thank you so much!!!

Perfect for baby food since they don't eat that much at once! Thanks!

I’m going to try this. I have an avocado tree and I have so many but I would like to preserve some for later. Thank you.

Rainbow Panda says I’m always giving to family, friends, teachers from my son’s school and neighbors so perhaps that’s why my tree produces so much because I’m generous. This year already gave over 1000 avocados away plus the ones we eat at home and we still have some in the tree. My uncle came a month ago to climb the tree and cut the ones from the very top and just those were 450. He took those to give to his friends and neighbors.

If only you lived near Atlanta, Ga. I would gladly take a few hundred off your hands.

I’m definitely going to try this. Thanks for the info. I’ll probably freeze them on wax paper to minimize sticking. Just a thought.
