    Another awesome video young man. I have the same any kind of stove affliction syndrome that you have. The need for fire is primordial and the comfort comes from generations of humans sitting around a fire.
    I packed up my “ultimate” cook and coffee kit for my upcoming trip to Wyoming this fall… the 5” firebox (both of mine are stainless) is the centerpiece of this kit… even at 63… I still love my fires. God bless and thank you for all your amazing tips and videos

    Cooking with wood and enjoying the fire is a part of the primeval experience. Ever since the 1st fire it has been a campers comfort item and an excuse to relax. A trail nickname for fire is , The Backpackers TV. lol As far as the ultimate wood burning , backpacking , stove mine is the Firebox , titanium , Nano , Gen 2 stove. Started with the stainless steel nano and graduated to the titanium. It is lighter and cools a lot quicker.

    I'm right there with you, buddy. I LOVE fire. I love the whole process: gathering wood, processing it, getting it started, watching it burn, and tending to it. For me, fire is the best part of being outdoors. And I LOVE the Firebox. I have three versions of it. It really IS the ultimate wood stove , in my opinion.

    I got a bit of firebug in me too. I enjoy making a fire. I love to sit around a nice camp fire too.
    I don't have a lathe so no turnings, but I do a bit of carving, so I always have a box of wood shavings on hand anytime I decide to break out my wood stove.
    I hate to spend the money, but I may need to upgrade my kit to titanium. My old back and knees are in bad shape, so I really need to lighten my pack. Thanks for the reviews!

    Great video. I’m sure rich people will by the titanium model. I just use a bushes baked bean large can I drill holes into and use a couple old file cabinet drawer metal rails as pot stands. Everything is free and I spent the $150 I saved on a sweet knife, hatchet( used from garage sale), saw , tarp, used $300 10 gallon internal frame backpack from Salvation Army that’s almost brand new (that cost me $7).Hiking sneakers,And a whole bunch of food.

    I love the Firebox Stoves amd have rocked both the 5" and Nano in stainless. I recognize that the primary reason for gettimg the titanium versions is the lower wieght for packing. However, other than that I havent heard much about the pros and cons of each. In short...why would i want titanium over stainless (other than weight)...or would i?

    • @PaleoHikerMD
      @PaleoHikerMD  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They are the same stove, just different materials. To me the major benefits of the titanium are weight of coarse, but also that it cools way, way faster than stainless steel.

    Yes, now that was awesome and he made it look easy...I like my firebox nano...Both...yes , bought two ,they both will go in my back pockets ...I use Stanley Cook set and that little 5 dollar stainless steel cup at Walmart. Cause, The lid fits both cooking cups and the firebox nano works great for both and alcohol stove. They all work perfectly together and I always love A back up plan?

    I would love to see you do a comparison between the bushcraft essential XL stove and the firebox gen 2 stove. From what I theorize, the BE is better with small diameter pots and the FB is better with bigger pots.

      @robg521 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Same here, I’ve been using the Bushbox XL for years and always been tempted to get a firebox. Having already spent a lot on the B/Box it is difficult to find an excuse to make another purchase, so it would be great to get a comparison/recommendation before committing to a F/Box.

    Titanium Firebox must be great! I had the steel version some years ago, but I thought it was too heavy for it´s purpose. I´ve used a similar titanium stove by German Bushcraft Essentials ever since. I share your admiration of woodstoves! With regards, a new subscriber from Finland, northern Europe.

      I have the Bushcraft Essentials 5" titanium as well as the Firebox Stove 5" titanium. Firebox is a little heavier than the Bushcraft Essentials stove but it's sturdier and doesn't tend to warp like the Bushcraft Essentials stove does. Both are nice, but I'm liking the Firebox for its durability.

    I love the stove for kayaking , when I run out of coffee on the water just post up and get a fire going and coffee in no time .the only set back is waiting for it to cool down before it can be packed up to get back on the water fishing. Other wise it's great for urban fishing and a little camp fire where a full on rock camp fire is not practical.

    Man I just can't get onboard with the "firebox" type flatpack stoves. I'm too much of a wuss when it comes to ember-control, hence why I still bring a Solo Stove Titan as a woodstove with me. I think you are referring to a gasifier like solostove. I found that it is not that heavy- solostove titan is 16.5 oz and titanium firebox is 17 oz. Only thing is it doesn’t fold flat.

      @PerBuer 2 ปีที่แล้ว

If its just me and the grouch , we stop at roadside parks and fix coffee, a hot meal ,,that I know how clean it was prepared, sometimes we go to these flood control lakes here , and I may have the grandchildren hunting sticks to cook up a big meal while most are fishing . Maybe cooking over several fires , multiple pots ,pans . I've got a 14mm and 16 mm baking kits .

    Love your video and your ULTIMATE concept. As for me, though, I will stick with my beautifully-crafted $6 (plus maybe $15 more in hardware, etc.) Ultimate, (heavy?) Ikea stove. True, it it is heavy stainless and it doesn't pack down but I carry it full of wood or other gear or food. it can easily be setup, as there is no setup, and it will use all of thoe other fuels you mention as well. Perhaps on occasion it needs some protection from the wind. I can't say I don't admire and wouldn't want a Firebox Nano, especially a Titanium edition, but its just not in the budget. I wonder if Simple Theory Gear will come out with a Titanium version which would most likely be another ULTIMATE but that will be out of the budget as well. The Firebox appears to be too delicate as well and would need to be on a perfectly level surface.

    Titanium, ouch no, just too much $$$, I understand titanium isn't easy metal to work with, but still, no.
    What I wished is for a Super Nano, just a bit bigger firebox, still using the wire leg support to keep weight off, bigger firebox so you can at least scratch yourself instead of having to feed the Nano.
    The SS 5 inch is just so heavy, good for canoe, kayak, beach fishing, but gee, it's about the weight of 3 beers, 1 liter of water?
    For hiking, hammock camping, a backup stove, the Nano seem like a good choice.

    I see that the Firebox is a well made, and fairly well designed (gaggle of a LOT of) pieces of equipment. But let’s face it. It’s about as necessary as a handkerchief. It, and all other gimmicky little stoves can easily be replaced with (1) a tin can, (2) a few rocks set side by side, (3) a hole in the ground, (4) a couple of arm-thick green branches. The glut of metal stoves are becoming just toys. I have four of them, so I can’t condemn anyone. And, like Ernie, I too enjoy looking into a fire. I - along with other humans for the past million or so years - can sit and gaze at campfires, clouds, and waves. Mesmerizing!
    But, all of these imaginative twig stoves are stretching a point too its limit. None of them are necessary. Just as the wood is readily available, so are the makings of a fireplace. None of it has to be hauled along - or even purchased for that matter. Will I succumb to buying yet another toy stove? I might, and I might not.
    I do thank you, Ernie, for your top tier evaluations of gear. Very, very good. A very few others are as good, but none better than you, Ernie. Thank you, sincerely. Now go play with your toys. (Just like I do). “The only difference between men and boys, is the size of the girls, and the price of their toys.”

    It's great that you found a rock as a base, but why wouldn't you clear all the dead leaves from around it; seems like a real fire hazard to me?

    Open fire in dry leaves? You obviously don't live in the west.

    That intro is pretty corny. I do like your channel but...

    I'm not quite sure what your criteria is for 'ultimate'. Obviously it's not weight, as this kit must be measured in pounds rather than ounces!
    It's obviously not cost, as its measured in hundreds.
    I would definitely not recommend this collection of items for a beginner, which is kind of what I thought you were aiming for.

    If a person is too lazy to scrounge for fire wood they shouldn't be camping 🏕
