The graphics that are used in Puppet Combo's games seem to make them even more unsettling. The graphics and style of their games remind me of this one horror game I played years ago, called "Afraid of Monsters."
it reminds me a lot of the old resident evil game, and you're right about the graphics. The older resident evil games are much 'scarier' than the newer remakes
I know Charlie was probably just goofing the game for the sake of entertaining chat, but Puppet Combo games are absolutely supposed to be low quality / cheesy. They’re modeled after PS1/PS2 style horror games, right down to the compressed jpeg faces and awkward downscaling. It’s not meant to be “good” or even particularly “scary,” depending on your personal tastes - but PC’s work is respectable; does a great job with atmosphere.

i have played almost all of the puppet combo games before it was on steam. i find the graphics charming moslty because i grew up playing ps1 and ps2 titles but i do understand when people say that the graphics is just lazy. the thing that stopping the games from being scary is the cheap jumpscares and loud noises. they're trying to emulate cheesy campy stories like sleepaway camp and new year's evil but those movies didn't had any super load noises nor cheap jumpscares. i thought that the ps1 graphics was a compliment to the era they were emulating but a lot of times the games feels like its emulating modern horror movies that relies on cheap jumpscares. their games has the potential to be scary, it has good atmosphere and some creepy build up but it always comes down to LOUD NOISE = SCARY

This game seems very self aware of itself. It knows that the jumscares are stupid and kindof makes fun of itself. But it still manages to build suspense with its graphics and sound design.

If were to play a game like Outlast and take it seriously while trying not to die, I'd get spooked every now and then, if I go into the game expecting "cheesy jumpscares" and "bad dialouge" and point out funny things about it while not focusing on the plot or anything I would just laugh the entire time. The only reason a game like this would be bad is because you made it that way by your attitude about it.

I wouldn't say Puppet Combo makes horror games but rather thrillers. Some of their games are creepy but the main draw is getting chased by a slasher while fast music plays but other games are a bit more subtle lol. That being the ones that have quite a bit of atmosphere to them are really good despite still being thrillers

All horror elements are removed when you’re playing with one ear bud, constantly talking over what’s happening, and having chat spamming dumb shit at you. It also ruins suspenseful moments when chat is telling you “just wait till you get to this part” Bc he is anticipating smthing scary.

Nun Massacre is probably Puppet Combo's scariest game in my opinion.

All horror elements are removed when you’re playing with one ear bud, constantly talking over what’s happening, and having chat spamming dumb shit at you. It also ruins suspenseful moments when chat is telling you “just wait till you get to this part” Bc he is anticipating smthing scary.

also the reason why i'm really enjoying these games is because i guess it's this special retro horror vibe that makes it so wholesome, it doesn't make me uncomfortable so i can eat while watching these videos for example, and they're really cool made
this dev in particular manages to give this special aesthetic to their games, and i think that's why they're worth playing
also visually speaking some details are really interestingly made, like for example when you go to another room you see this scene with the door opening, i've never seen anything like this in other games before and i think it's a cool little detail
