I like how you used the tape on the sdram micro card. I've ran into issues on other things (like zumspot) where it's incredibly hard to grab and pull the sd card out without.
For anyone considering a mobile dual-bander to install in a vehicle with the head separated from the transceiver body you should be aware of the following: I was planning to save a few dollars and get the FTM-300DR which seemed to have all of the operational features I wanted and more. However, when I looked closely at how to actually install it into the vehicle I saw a different picture. If the transceiver is mounted in the back of the vehicle and the control head in the front, the FTM-300 requires three separate cables go go between the transceiver and the control head. 1. The control cable, 2. a microphone cable (there's no mic jack in the head) and 3. a speaker wire, and you will probably need to buy and mount a separate speaker up front (there's no speaker or speaker jack in the FTM-300 control head). The FTM-500, by comparison has speakers in both the control head and the transceiver body and has microphone jacks in both places as well. So all you need is a single control cable between the two parts. A much simpler installation.
Finally installed my FTM-500 after running the 400 in my Toyota for 2 years. I love the PMG function. Is there a way to scan the memory without scanning the WX frequencies?
I’m looking seriously at this radio and it’s seems to be a bit Marmite. I want it for mobile use but don’t see many U.K. based hams using it outside of their QTH. So how simple would it be to use under mobile conditions? Don’t mind programming at home APRS is not something I’ve ever used. Welcome feedback regards Mike
Why don't they allow you pair your phone with it, access all the programming, build custom freq programming, and send APRS messages from your phone? They could even integrate the repeater guide for quick programming changes on the road. It's 2024 ffs. Instead they made the screen smaller and added a bunch of physical buttons.
For a couple of months I've been trying to like this radio. But I can't pull the trigger on buying it because I think it's just too damn ugly. some ham radio operators have it sitting on the dash of their vehicle and it just looks so stupid. LOL. It's actually uglier than the icom 7100.

Yes handy tip :)

Hi , aprs will work brill then u add UK Repeaters at home use a Hotspot for C4M , alot to learn with modern Radios .
Andreas, can the main speaker be muted? If so, how does the front alone sound?
Yes and sounds good .
When I’m on my hotspot, it is not as clear as yours. Do I need some settings set up for C4FM. It just keeps dropping out
Normaly bad internet.
@@HamTechRadioScannerDrones Ive changed the frequency to a lower freq than the 438. so far this seems to have cured the problem
under display backtrack i have just a grey screen with headings, how do I get it back to a compass like yours? Tom K1CXS
Go in display settings
Do you know why when I press “P4” on my mic, all I get is an audible tone with no weather channel audio?
th-cam.com/video/YxrNG7Ro8XE/w-d-xo.html
is there a way to swop that distance from km to miles
Yes look in GPS /APRS settings
no i cannot find it on the ftm500
@@HamTechRadioScannerDrones

I prefer the Yaesu ftm300 much better value
Overpriced gimmick that's useless for Simplex Operations, aka when the SHTF!. IF you want to play "Internet" just USE your damn phone!
No
