I love this beautiful bunch of roses Diane. The greenery looks amazing. Whilst watching I did a neurographic -an enjoyable relaxing evening viewing, grateful thanks. Have a great week ahead. ❤
Thank you, Diane. This was such a relaxing video. I love the idea of brush pens for the neuro art. I have done it with a sharpie. It's very time consuming and slow, meditative process, which I think it's supposed to be LOL I like your way of drawing the shapes first and the speeding it up a bit. I have watched tons of videos on this and some of them are sooooo slooooow. I'm having an idea of using Brusho with the neuro art, sprinkling the colors either before and then doing lines, or sprinkling after doing the lines. I think it might take the "stress" of choosing colors out of the process. Loved the flower painting too. I find your voice very calming and soothing and I love your humor. We're in the same age range, and I can imagine us sitting at a table together, having a girls night and painting the night away.
Hi Renée, and thank you so much for your lovely comments! As usual it does feel as if we’re having a chat around the kitchen table! I so appreciate your loyal and supportive involvement in the channel. Your suggestions are great and I will try to incorporate them as we go along. I’m a bit wary of Brusho because it gets everywhere! But I’m sure I’ll get used to it! I have put up the sketch for you of the flowers that you wanted to paint, the forget me nots. I hope you enjoy doing it ❤️
@@DianeAntoneStudio I tried with Brusho and it was a mess. The first one I did all the neuro stuff first. Then when I did the Brusho, all my lines activated with the water and ran all over the place. Second attempt, I did the Brusho background last night and the neuro lines today. It's got to be the ugliest background ever LOL I think I'll stick to doing the lines first, then coloring the sections, but not with Brusho!

I adore this color scheme! The bits of red and pink blending with and bleeding into the green leaves are perfection. I find it very intriguing to watch you mix paint in the palette and on the paper. It's as interesting looking at the brush strokes up close as stepping back and looking at the work as a whole. Thank you!

Thank you for demonstrating neurographic drawing. Really like it. Like you, I have used my 77 year old hands for many chores, child rearing. cleaning, painting my house, yard work, et cetera! I agree with you regarding digital media use. No twitter for me, and I deleted my Facebook account about 4 years ago.

What an enjoyable way to spend time ... with you, Diane ... just listening, watching, making connections, etc. I, too, have been playing around, and learning, a lot with neurographic art recently, in tandem with doing the 100 Day Challenge focusing on watercolors. I am learning sooo much and enjoying applying various watercolor techniques to my neuro art. I use Micron pen to draw my lines and shapes, so no bleeding when I watercolor. I do however love the idea of using brush markers to speed up the process and get more warming up & relaxation out of the process. Thank you so much for inviting us into your creative space. Really inspiring!!
Thanks so much Eileen. I'm interested to know more about eh 100 day challenge! So glad you are enjoying the channel and I look forward to more comments from you!
@@DianeAntoneStudio The 100 Day Challenge is an artist-driven challenge to focus on one creative task per day for 100 days. It helps us to focus and challenge ourselves to show up every day. See #100daychallenge for lots of examples. For me, it's helped me focus more on watercoloring. Last year, I did hundreds of 2-3" abstract circles (mandalas, floral, etc). Someday I'll get some of them mounted!
“I have no idea what that is” Diane Antone. Laughing out loud here, because those are my favorites flowers to paint. I did a bookmark recently with 3 flowers, lots of leaves, and some copper accents. I had no idea what kind of flowers they were, but people on IG are loving them. Thank you for sharing. Blessings to you and to the whole world!
Sometimes a flower wants to be born but it won't announce it's name when it arrives! Fast forward to next morning and somehow it's obvious - a HIBISCUS!
I so appreciate, especially on this piece, is your showing us how important it is to use a light touch! You make such dramatic improvements with so little effort. I will work on that! ❤️
I like how it looks w/ 3 large roses. If I were gathering flowers from the garden, I would pick the larger ones & not think about how it would look in a composition. I think it's beautiful!
Oh, thank you! I was worried about that aspect of the composition, especially as I had set out with two things in mind - the painting would have a variety of colours and the roses would vary in size. Neither of those things happened!!! Sometimes a painting just insists on being painted differently to what you intend!!!
@@DianeAntoneStudio That's interesting bc I was struck by your variety of color...the red in the roses & leaves is striking & drew me in & then I noticed the different hues of green & had to study it to see if there was a pattern to which colors you chose. : ) IMO you accomplished your goal, just maybe in different elements than you planned! This was so relaxing, Thank you very much for another joyful and colorful painting. It helps immensley to watch you be so loose and peaceful throughout the painting. I find that I need practice with the neurographic exercise. Tried to control the spacing and could not get loose with it. Will be trying it again. I generally sketch or paint and cut my practices into gift tags for warmups to my watercolor sessions. Your encouragement to loosen up has taken my art to extraodinary places, loving it. Hi Aline, so glad you are enjoying the videos and the neurographic art exercises. Don't worry that you are finding it difficult to control the spacing - just relax and let the pen go wherever it goes, and eventually you'll find you're loosening up and your paintings improve. Most of all, have fun!
I started studting the neurographic style a few weeks ago. I used some good colored pencils... all shades of browns. I shaded each space and things began to emerge. It was wonderful! It ended up looking like a rock wall with cave entrances. I had to make myself stop it was so interesting. Glad to see you're doing it too. VERY relaxing!! And I love the flowers you did. I'll do some of those tomorrow. 😊
Good evening from South Africa Diane. I have just discovered and subscribed to your channel. It is certainly very relaxing and inspirational. I have had a complete block for a while now which is frustrating. I went from doing water colours to pencil sketches of children which I love but it seems to have made me more rigid. I have never painted loosely and always sketched before. Your lovely relaxed way will certainly help me. Many thanks. Rosemary.
Dear Diane, I absolutely love this arrangement of flowers~ the colors are amazing! I won't copy, but will use this for idea of my own~ this would look beautifully framed in my living room! And that exercise in the beginning is good for the brain? Cuz, if it is ... I so needed this yesterday! Lol! I would like to know more about this~ much love ❤️✝️🙏🏻
Very, very pretty and inspiring. It is a good reminder for us to paint in our own unique way. Your "circles" made me think it would be a great way to keep your previously chosen colors for palettes rather than the usual small rectangles. How pretty can that be when you’re wondering what colors to use for a painting!
Loved your video! Such a good point about creating your own art instead of copying someone else’s. I don’t quite have the confidence to do that yet but as you said you just have to take a risk because that’s where your own magic is.
This is so lovely. As others have said - very relaxing. I will say that I have tried to do these kinds of "relaxing" florals - but always end up in a "hot mess"...LOL But I keep trying....one day I will get it or else I will move onto something else to paint....LOL Thanks again for a wonderful video.
Hi Anne, don't give up! Maybe something specific is tripping you up. What paper and paint are you using? This kind of loose painting doesn't work easily on some papers. Thanks so much for your kind comments xxx
Such a wonderful exercise, I purchased refillable brush pens awhile ago and never used them because I thought I had to learn how to watercolor paint first. I absolutely need to learn how to play!!! Thank you so much
You're so welcome Linda. I find the neurographic thingy very very helpful, I don't think I would have managed these roses if I hadn't done the neurographic exercise first!
Thank you for the wonderful video. I’ve recently discovered neurotrophic art and love your demonstration. Also I love your flowers and arrangement and freedom in painting. I always watch your videos and love that you said that it’s important to find your own creativity rather than copy someone else. You are really an inspiration! Thank you!!!
You are so welcome! Thanks so much for your perceptive comment Marie, I really appreciate it! I hope you feel that you are making progress with your painting, because you surely are! Thanks again.
Thank you Diane!! I love it! You always seem to know just what to do to pull it together!! I am trying to remember to step back from my work more often to see what I have going on. I don’t yet always know how to revive it like you do but I am learning! Thank you for the idea about warming up too!! 💕
That was really nice to watch, I love painting florals. I know what you mean by being afraid of mucking up a piece of work half way through by continuing further, I go through this almost all the time, sometimes I have to stop to take a break and gather up my courage to re start. I love this khadi paper it's possibly my favourite watercolour paper. Thanks for sharing Diane, I love the pitter patter of your dogs. 🐾💜
Thank you so much! I could have stopped painting about halfway through the process and the result would have been pretty, but I wouldn't have learnt anything. In danger of overworking I continued. And learnt lots! Khadi paper is very interesting to work on and I must buy some. Where do you get yours from?
@@DianeAntoneStudio I bought my khadi paper from Amazon. The particular ones I bought were called. Indigo handmade 100% cotton A3 20 sheets for €16.69. Very good price!! It's very lovely paper.
Hello I think sketching some neuro art and coloring in is a great idea for warm up. Lately I’ve wanted to do something while the TV is on in the background. I have trouble sitting with idle hands(I usually knit but am between projects). Anyway, I’m going to give it a try. Also thanks for the Art quote a wonderful one to remember. Thanks Diane.
That’s a great idea Kim, and you really will benefit from it I’m sure. I knit too because I can’t stand having idle hands but sometimes my fingers need a rest! The neurographic art technique is ideal. Particularly good with the brush pens. Have fun!😊
Hi Diane - just a recommendation for cold hands. I bought Dr. Frederick’s Grippy Compression Gloves (Fingerless) - they really helped me w/Reynauds & some nerve pain. Amazon-have 2 pairs - wash well in sink. Like them a lot!
Wow! This is gorgeous and I totally get your style of painting. I see myself in how you think/work only I'm sure you have much more experience than I do. Having said all that watching you do this made so much sense to me! And the touches of black really add to the painting. The colors you chose for every part are just perfect! Thanks so much for sharing your techniques and art with us! I've subbed and will be binge watching your videos. Love from Arizona ♥️
Hi Susan and thank you so much for your thoughtful comments - I'm so glad you are enjoying the videos and I thank you for subbing and all your support x
Oh, yes Deb, I have had a go at Zentangle, and so did Tamsin. She is really good at it, me not so much, it’s interesting and another addictive pastime! The only reason for not featuring it on the channel is copyright issues - the owners of the technique don’t like it if you use their name without being part of their organisation, apparently. But thanks for reminding me about it. It’s fun x
Wow! Using a brush is so much faster than using a ink pen. I JUST saw this the other day ago on Let's Make Art and gave it a try. It IS fun and kinda relaxing. And as you j7st sa8d....a fine liner is a harder way to go and doesn't look as nice. She said a Sharpie w9rks well, but mine was dried up as was my other water proof pen so I ended up using a black ballpoint pen....don't recommend it, it just didn't look right. I know there isn't a right or wrong, but it was wrong hahaha. I totally agree with your views on Twitter and social media in general, very destructive
So glad you enjoyed that idea Elizabeth, there's something about a felt-tip pen that just doesn't feel right to me except for making notices for the noticeboard! Art needs something more forgiving!. Anyways, thanks so much for you comments and I hope you continue to enjoy the videos xxx
You're so welcome! Yes, they are STILL FREE! We have started a "choose your price" option because so many people wanted to pay a small amount, and set it to $1 per sketch BUT it states on the website that if you prefer not to pay just enter $0 in the price box. Please ask if you have any problems with this feature x
Hi Kim, I would always say paint before paper. I am recommending for beginners the Kuretake set of 48 colors which you’ll find here amzn.to/3EtMezY My reason for recommending this set is that not only is it inexpensive (48 colors including two metallics for around $40) but the colors are great, very intense, and most importantly they dry the same color they are when they are wet. So many people get disappointed by watercolors and switch to acrylics because the bright colors fade back when dry. This makes it very difficult to create a vibrant painting. Kuretake solves that problem. Also, these paints work well on any paper, even copier paper takes them, and you will find they mix and blend well too. So I would suggest you get a set of those and then buy watercolor paper which is not cotton, but cellulose or bamboo instead. As a beginner you don’t need to spend a fortune on materials, just to get the right ones! Here’s a suggestion for paper suitable for learning using my techniques amzn.to/3Kq40I5 There are many others you might like to try but I would start with the inexpensive but tried and tested Strathmore (if you are in the States that is.) Hope this helps, best wishes for happy painting, Diane xx
You make it look too easy. I was fortunate to find several sketch books that have khadi paper from India. I haven’t used them yet as I want them to be coffee table books eventually with watercolor paintings I do.
Looks can be deceiving! What a lucky find - are they older sketchbooks? Don’t do what I did though and save a nice sketchbook for a point in the future that never came! The sizing in the paper can deteriorate over time. That would be a shame. Thanks again for your support.
You know what I noticed about the Khadi paper? There was almost zero colourshift! I have a small 5 x 4 inch Khadi watercolour book I got a long time ago, will have to dig it out and experiment.
I ate 6 cookies waiting for a bud or something down at right bottom corner. How you do such lovely loose paintings with abandon boggles my type A personality.

Thanks so much Angie, I really appreciate your lovely thoughtful comments. Great suggestion, I'll incorporate that!
Thank you for this tutorial, it is really helpful!
Glad it was helpful!
Loved your video! Such a good point about creating your own art instead of copying someone else’s. I don’t quite have the confidence to do that yet but as you said you just have to take a risk because that’s where your own magic is.
Absolutely!! Thank you so much! So glad you enjoyed it and I thank you for your support - remember "let the paint do the work!"
Thank you so much for all you do for us❤️So beautiful and relaxing. And it’s so important to me to listen to your thoughts while painting.😊
You are so welcome Martchen and I'm so happy you enjoy the ramblings on my videos! It means a lot to me, believe me xx
Wonderful Diane
So glad you enjoyed it! Sending you joy this Christmastide!
❤️ lovely
So pretty!
Thank you! 😊
Nice colors composition
Thank you so much x
This is so gorgeous! I’ve longed to be able to paint a beautiful rose. Saved this for future use.
This is lovely ❤
Thanks Sherry, really appreciate your comment!
This was an amazing video! Your flowers are so nice! The Color’s, the blends…. Love these kind of paintings.
You are very talented
Thanks so much Iris, you’re too kind x
Nice textural effects with that type of paper..love the colours…also, good techniques with the nerographic piece
Thanks Linda! Appreciate your comments!!
Love this! So beautiful ❗
Thanks so much Debra!
Beautiful.
Thanks so much for your lovely comments Donna!! So glad you are enjoying the videos!
Very interesting paper! I've heard of it and know of an artist who uses it for mixed media collage. I might just try this!
@@DianeAntoneStudio
I bought my khadi paper from Amazon.
The particular ones I bought were called.
Indigo handmade 100% cotton A3 20 sheets for €16.69.
Very good price!! It's very lovely paper.

I just checked my paper and I actually got the same khadi paper but i bought the size A2 , 20 sheets for €26.84.
Hello
I think sketching some neuro art and coloring in is a great idea for warm up.
Thanks for the tip! I will look into that. Sounds like a great idea, especially in the winter here. Thanks again x
Beautiful-Thanks for sharing💖💖
I can’t wait to try this! It’s so beautiful. I’m determined to learn loose florals. Thank you so much!
You can do it! Thanks so much for watching Kim and check out more of my loose florals from throughout the last year x
It's really beautiful!
Thank you so much Julia - really appreciate your support x
I like your style
Thanks for this video. Loved it.
Diane. Thank you for all your lovely videos. You’ve given me inspiration to try a new craft. Have you considered Zentangle? I think you’d enjoy it.
It’s fun x
Thank you so much for this exercise. Also I love all your videos.
Thank you so much Glenis, so glad you are enjoying them!
That was amazing! Thanks you so much for sharing your talent. I made a beautiful painting for my daughter.
You're so welcome Janet, it's my pleasure, and I'm so glad you have made a painting for your daughter, what a lovely gift x
Job well done! Love it!
Thanks so much Linda!
Just beautiful !! Amazing ! Can I ask what colors u mix for the grayish green ? Love that color! Thx !
Thanks so much Margaret, I think that color was made with olive green and a touch of winsor violet. So glad you enjoyed the video!
Thank you for this beautiful turorial. Are youe sketch downloads no longer free?
You're so welcome! Yes, they are STILL FREE! We have started a "choose your price" option because so many people wanted to pay a small amount, and set it to $1 per sketch BUT it states on the website that if you prefer not to pay just enter $0 in the price box. Please ask if you have any problems with this feature x
Beautiful. I have a question. As a beginner, if i want to upgrade my paper or my paint but could only do one, which should I upgrade first? Thank you.
Thank you for the information!
It was definitely a different experience altogether! Thanks so much for your support Kyomi!
I ate 6 cookies waiting for a bud or something down at right bottom corner. How you do such lovely loose paintings with abandon boggles my type A personality.
So funny Gloria!! Save a cookie for me!
You make it look SO easy but it's not...When I try to follow along I just get a giant mud puddle of despair.
You'll get there. The paper you use does make a difference... I found this Khadi paper quite forgiving.
