    I really love the Orthodox priests and church due to their grasp and knowledge of history and theology. They truly remember all the Church history and theology, and they constantly talk about the Councils, the heresies, the creeds and doctrines.
    I guess this constant remembrance of all of their history is why they aren't susceptible to heresies and modernism. They remember that there is nothing knew under the sun whilst in the West, because we've forgotten our Christian history, are reinventing the wheel and are unarmed against the heresies of Arianism, Universalism, Gnosticism and Protestant legalism. The Orthodox remember their history and so already know why they are wrong.

    I love the Greek explanation of salvation. The Protestant Legalism of explaining salvation as a legal transaction seemed so empty, loveless and ugly.
    But to explain salvation as "restoration and healing to the perfection God created us for" through union with the Holy Spirit and becoming "Christ-like" in form and action, is so rich, full and loving. It gives so much purpose to actually Act in the present and future whilst Protestants think of salvation as a one time event with nothing to add.

      I have found calvinists often focus on the legal transaction with Christ exclusively more than the inward process of salvation. And pentecostals seem to focus on spiritual experiences and gifts more than other things.
      I think Lutherans are closer to the orthodox within protestantism but still have major differences.

    • @Orcneas23
      @Orcneas23 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@arabniga: The legal framework of the Protestant understanding of salvation is, sadly, a legal fiction. It declares a person righteous, while the person will never actually be righteous. There is no ontological transformation regarding salvation in Protestantism; there is only a change in disposition towards God in the part of the penitent. This is Luther’s “snow-covered dunghill” analogy in a nutshell; it is an heresy which was subsequently adopted by Calvin, Zwingli, Cranmer, Knox, and the other Reformers. There is also the morally reprehensible, and totally unjust, Protestant doctrines of Original Sin which makes a person guilty of a sin he/she never committed, and of penal substitution which pits the Father against the Son (and likewise diminishes the importance of the Incarnation and the resurrection).
      The Orthodox doctrine is transformative, wherein a person is actually made righteous through the process of the theosis, and has no theological problems like Original Sin nor Penal Substitutionary Atonement attached. As a person who knew his Protestant faith well and converted to Orthodoxy (I am also a postulant to the priesthood), I can say with the utmost certainty that the Protestant gospel is deficient, and at times, very dangerous. Come home to the one holy, catholic, and apostolic Church Jesus built, my friend. The Orthodox Church awaits you! ☦️

    One of my seminary professors once said that the only answer to the question "Are you saved?" is "Yes, I have been saved by Christ's life, death, and resurrection at Baptism, I am being saved as by grace I live out my life in Christ throughout my life, and I will be saved at the final resurrection when I shall enter into the eternal worship of God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit."

    0:15 Being Saved Is a Lifelong process. What is the purpose of Baptism?
    0:25 Baptism it the time we are completely joined to Christ. We die with him in the water, we rise with him, We become a new creation. We leave the "Old Man" behind.
    0:50 Regeneration of Humanity
    1:09 Baptism & Chrismation together, The Fullness of Grace. Followed immediately after with the 1st Taking of Communion.
    1:59 Salvation is a gift. Salvation must be safeguarded by us, by living a life reflective of the will of God. You are not to go live like a heathen.
    2:35 Your life has to be in obedience with God. In relationship. Until our last breathe.
    3:00 The Goal is to go beyond restoring God's Image in us. To Reach The State of Perfection. To Be Perfected In His Likeness.
    3:35 We Struggle to reach Theosis.
    4:21 Greek Salvation means to Restore To Good Health. To Heal.
    4:47 Christ is so dear. He took upon himself humanity. He restored humanity, made it perfect. 5:23 Made Humanity like himself, Eternal.
    Christ Defeated Death.
    5:55 Salvation is NOT a jeridical Term. It is not a 1 time transactional forgiveness.
    6:12 Salvation is a healed existence.

    It's important to make the distinction between Catholic and Protestant theology of the West. The Orthodox view of Baptism is in perfect harmony with the Catholic view. So, too, is Orthodox soteriology, which Fr Panayiotis explained. Many of the great teachers of the Eastern Church are considered Doctors in the Catholic Church. The once-saved-always-saved penal substitutionary view of Christ's death on the Cross is not Catholic. Catholics speak of infused righteousness, ie as St Paul writes, "..because the love of God has been poured into our hearts by the Holy Spirit who has been given to us" it doesn't speak of imputed righteousness; although like Fr Panayiotis mentioned, imputed righteousness is not a problem, as Baptism is more than symbolism, ie. it affects an ontological change in us: a washing, a regeneration, a new creation. We go from one degree of glory to another, from righteous to more righteous, in a state of grace, if we remain in Christ; obedient to his commandments and cooperative with the Holy Spirit. Theosis and theoria are very much in harmony with Catholic teaching, unlike what is broadly found in Protestantism (although Protestantism is all over the place theologically). We speak more frequently of divinization and contemplation, but they are corresponding terms. I actually prefer theosis myself, and theoria has less mis-associations that come with the term contemplative prayer. While Catholics speak of "satisfaction" being made on the Cross as one of many aspects of the crucifixion, this is NOT to be confused with penal substitution and its claim that the Father poured out his wrath on his beloved Son to make propitiation. Make note of what the Catechism states: "It is LOVE 'to the end' that confers on Christ's sacrifice its value as redemption and reparation, as atonement and satisfaction. He knew and loved us all when he offered His life." This corresponds to St Paul who writes, "...live in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God." Note "fragrant" which is something of beauty - a gift. Orthodox theology of the Cross is equally valid and rich in the meaning it draws out, and so too, the connected theology of the resurrection of our beloved Saviour. We enter, through baptism, into the great paschal mystery of Christ's death, burial and resurrection. Orthodox theology is affirmed and shared by the Catholic Church. I love your channel. I love and value Orthodox iconography very much. It is powerful for its beauty, precise theology and instruction. Your reverent and beautiful ancient liturgy is magnificent too. The video on St Xenia was especially moving. I now hold her in deep love and respect, and will call on her prayers when needed. Keep up the good work

      We have many things in common with Catholics (though we are not ,as some would sustain, brothers) but the main problem is Catholic Church's lack of humility. It is hard for Catholic Church to accept they are WRONG (a common sin for any people...). So, the problem with Catholics (I mean Catholic clergy not ordinary believers) is that they want to belong to the Church of Christ without accepting their sin (mistake) of being wrong. By the way, there's an heresy that claims that Orthodox Church and Catholic Church are sisters. Christ has only ONE Church not two separated churches. You either belong to that Church or you are out of it. May God help you undestand that.

    I would like to add that Jesus is actually named Yeshua. and lo and behold, Yeshua means Salvation in hebrew. You find Jeshua in the Bible often. In those instances, the hebrew says Yeshua (ישוע). So in the septuagint, that name is translated to Iesous and latinized as Jesus. Yeshua ben Sirach and Yeshua Ben Ananias both have common translations to Jesus. It is just important I feel, to know how important the name is. It means Salvation.

    Can you please help me understand your baptism position? If a child is baptized, is it just a thought or an actual real empowerment and being joined to Christ, a new creation? Also, if it’s actual and real, if they never grow in faith, do they lose whatever it is they received at baptism? Is it a loss of something they once had?

    • @Trisagionfilms
      @Trisagionfilms  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, when a child is baptized there is a clear empowerment and a union with Christ given to the child. Through Chrismation he/she is also given the Gift of the Holy Spirit. He/she becomes a Temple of the Holy Spirit. The child is given the potential to be the New Creation which is accomplished through union with Christ and his/her co-operation with the Grace of God given to them. If the child never grows in the Faith it does not lose that potential. The Holy Spirit still resides in him/her even as a spark awaiting his/her return toward God so that It may become a flame again.

      As a layperson and as a former Lutheran, I think that when a person (infant or adult) is baptized and chrismated, they get grafted in Christ and receive the gift of the Holy Spirit (as Fr. Panayioitis writes). These gifts don't lose their validity and efficiency if the person never grow in faith, but what happens is that the person kinda "withers" spiritually, like a grafted branch that is not properly grown into one with the stem (because the person doesn't accept those gifts nor strive to get closer to God)... Similar (if not same) idea appears also in _The Shepherd of Hermas_ that is seen as one of the writings of 'Apostolic Fathers'.

      The Early Christians baptized infants and said it was heresy if you don’t do it. So you disagree with the First Christians. In the Old Testament infants were circumcised before they were able to repent. And baptism is a fulfillment of the Old Testament church’s circumcision, because Baptism is the circumcision of the heart. You have no continuity. If you deny infant baptism then you must be against infant circumcision. Be consistent.

      Baptism of those who sin must be preceded by repentance. But the Orthodox do not believe in "Original sin" as the Protestants do. Babies are not sinners. They come into the world pure. Predisposed to sin, perhaps, but not sinners. Considering this, denying the baptism of infants is the last thing we would wish to do in regards to baptism.
