Oh man the intro. I frequently go back to the Limelight video for the gain riff and was looking through the comments and found your old project. That album has been one of my favorites since I found it so I'm glad to see it make an appearance even if I'm 3 years too late
This is some of the best pedal demoing I’ve seen on here. Your playing is fantastic. Picked up this pedal yesterday largely because of this demo. Thanks so much for putting in the work!
I can't imagine a better pedal demo. Clear explanations of the gear in play, just the right amount of knob fiddling, and then looping the rhythm/lead passage while switching the highlight feature of the pedal: the clipping modes. Icing on the cake is the peek inside and clear instructions on power supply options. The sound quality is also top notch in my headphones. So, I'm definitely subbing to this channel for more demos, as much as it might hurt my wallet! Great work. Now, a quick question: Did you have the opportunity to test charge pump 18V vs power supply 18V, and if so, would you recommend one or the other? I have the 18V option, but there needs to be a pretty compelling difference to get one of the four sacred 18V outputs on my crowded board. Thanks again!
Ah, thanks so much for watching, I appreciate the kind words! Re: 18V, I have used it both with the charge pump active and with an 18V supply-there's no discernible difference to my ear, and there really shouldn't be as long as your PSU supplies the correct voltages it advertises (and if not, you'd more likely just have issues with the footswitch rather than any audible difference). I'd say just use the charge pump and save your 18V slots for stuff that needs them.
i need to track down an orange one of these for myself i wanan find out how it’d sound paired with a blues driver hands down my favorite overdrive right there
Any chance that you’d be willing to offer tabs for this? I legit bought the pedal in the middle of your demo because I love the sound so much! Great work!
Perfect video/demo, only a quick note - I see you have other pedals listed - am I right to assume that they were in the loop, but just not used? This has made a purchase decision much more difficult, I'd never heard of this unit, but now it's in the finals! Thanks so much for an excellent video.
I had to re-watch?.. Experience, yes this demo again as I might need to get one of these. I'm still hit in the face by how good this is, and I'm talking about the demo and not only one element. You have some chops.
Hi ambient! I love your videos. I mainly play pop punk very influenced by knuckle puck and I’ve been getting into basement. I’m thinking of getting the sick as overdrive for its transparency and to clear up the low bass in my distortion on my orange amp. Would this pedal be a good paring with the sick as overdrive? I’m sort of using this pedal for leads or parts where I need more distortion or can I use it as a preamp to muddy up my clean channel and then tighten it up with a sick as?
Hey! I think 1312 and Sick As can definitely be a great pairing. I think you're on the right track-I'd probably try something like the LED clipping on the 1312 (for a less compressed sound) and then use the Sick As before it to tighten up lows. You'd for sure need to experiment with how you set the gain on each plus your amp though-easy for things to get out of hand with a ton of gain and the sort of compressed character of each pedal.
Awesome! Thank you for getting back to me. I was planning to do the exact thing you just described, put the sick as before the 1312 and use the LED. Would the high Shredroom be more appropriate or just the normal version of the Sick As overdrive?
@@zachogan6255 depends on which voicing you prefer I guess, they're both great! I'm partial to Shredroom myself though as a fan of the more Marshally character of it, though the OG one has some more range as far as low-gain sounds
No worries. I am trying to emulate the more mesa boogie Marshall tones that these pop punk artists are doing now. Does the Shredroom still tighten up the lows like the Sick As? What’s your take on the differences?
@@zachogan6255 High Shredroom's EQ is voiced roughly like a JCM from my understanding, it can tighten up lows just fine. Otherwise it's fairly similar, just on the hotter side and doesn't clean up quite the same as the OG
Lovely demo man! I love the character and the different clipping options. Definitely picking up one of these from Black Mass next check. what voltage are you running it in & do you find it affects the sound at all? :) thanks boss
Thanks so much! So the V3 1312 always runs at 18V internally, whether you set the internal switches for 9 or 18V input. (9V-in setting engages the voltage doubler, 18V-in setting turns it off so components don't get fried.) Compared to the V1 which could run at 9V, or a normal RAT, it's a bit more articulate of a sound with more brilliant high end-basically a bit more hi-fi than your standard RAT sound which brings out more of the character of each clipping mode!
Some are definitely more subtle than others, but change the feel and dynamic response in a way that's tough to convey in a video. It can also be rig/player-dependent, i.e. your playing style, pickups, amp, other pedals you're stacking with it, etc. So I've come to think of the clipping modes more as a way to adapt the pedal to whatever context, rather than 8 totally different voices. As someone who changes their rig and shifts styles a lot, I find a ton of value in that amount of nuance.
Thanks! (Sorry just now seeing this.) I use EZ Drummer and write parts all by hand. Some multitrack routing so I can mix things individually, then standard EQ/parallel compression/reverb and they're good to go.
@@ambienttrash5234 thanks, just saw this response. What interface? And like, direct into the interface or through amp?? I got a focusrite and it sounds pretty poor. figuring out what to do.
@@nickybhoof stereo ambient stuff is usually direct, but most of the time I go through the amp and then either mic or from the direct out on my Marshall Origin. Just picked up a Torpedo Captor X though so that will be my go-to when I've got my amp back in working order
This video and the manual are the same, however an earlier version of the manual had inverted colors on the switch graphic. Depends on your particular pickups of course, but in general less saturated, brighter and with a clearer attack, as you might expect. Afraid I don't have a proper single-coil guitar here right now, but my 1312 V1 demo used a Jazzmaster which should give you some contrast from the P90s here.
@@ambienttrash5234 You got an awesome sound dude! Do you think this pedal is worth it if I have a rat already? That Russian germanium setting makes me think so but I'm not sure.
@@blitzkrieg3238 thank you, I appreciate that! I'm a big Rat fan myself and think it's worthwhile, particularly if you like to change your setup around. That extra range with the clipping character and also the amount of compression can make a big difference depending on the sounds you're after, and the fact that it runs internally at 18V adds a bit more articulation that I find really nice.
