Cathay Pacific Premium Economy Class | Money Well Spent?

  • Does Premium Economy Class make sense? Or should I save the money and fly coach? Or just rob the bank and sit in the front - I know I'm not alone with this problem and that's why we have to solve it, on one of the best airlines in the world: Cathay Pacific. I've flown Cathay Pacific in first class, business and economy class - and today we're going to Hong Kong in premium economy class - from Tel Aviv, in happy holiday mood - just before the unexpected horror struck the region.
    We're having a close look at the extra legroom we get for that extra money, better service, food and drinks (or not?) and the prive-value ratio of premium economy. I promise: the result is a surprise.

    I totally agree, for that price difference there should be more attention paid to the premium experience. Another great review!!

    You should try Cathay’s premium economy on their A350s. The seat is much more modern with more legroom (40 inches vs 38 on the 777). In addition the cabin noise, humidity and cabin pressure are all superior on their A350s. With a bit of searching and flexibility with travel dates I can often find premium economy for around 25-35% more than economy which is well worth it for me as I can actually get some sleep.

    I’m travelling E to Sydney from LHR via HGK next month. Im glad I didnt purchase PE as like you said the ticket was £1000 more one way so would have been an extra £2000 return and it definitely doesn’t seem worth that price! I’ve been told that E with Cathay is a good product anyway so hopefully it will still be a pleasant flight in E.

      I just would really take a long break between the two long flights, for the legs and feet, to avoid risk of thrombosis

    Thanks for choosing Cathay and transitting via HK!
    Personally I was fortunate to be upgraded once on the 773ER to Premium Economy but the only peoblem is the hard product is quite old and the IFE is so laggy that the new 10 abrest economy looked more attractive (but of couese the recline was nice haha)
    They really need to change the seats for A330 Economy and 777 Premium Economy 😢

    Great review Chris. I agree about breaking up a long haul flight into two legs especially for the double points haha!
    I like Japan Airlines premium economy, hard shell seats so no one can recline into your space. Plus they also throw in lounge access and priority security, which is great of you don’t have a status.

    Good review Chris, interesting to see your premium economy experience with Cathay. That croissant looks as old as me haha. Looked a bit of a mixed experience overall. Thanks for sharing and hope 2024 is a fantastic travel year for you

    More seriously, I so agree that any flight is good; and if you get any further forward than Economy, whoopee ! Shout out for Cathay: travelling back to Auckland from London, our daughter was upgraded to Premium Economy at the gate. They looked after her so well; she won't like going back to Economy...

      Hi Melissa! Thank you for the feedback! If it's good for you then try the upgrade. For me it wasn't the right choice - but I'm here to give my experiences and then let my viewers decide what is best for them. 😊
      Thank you so much for watching. Best wishes from Germany! Chris

    "This Croissant never had a good moment in it's whole life and will never have one" Haha classic line. I've flown CP premium economy and I agree It's not great but is a step up from economy.
    Maybe not worth the extra money. I've flown JAL premium and that is definitely worth the extra money as you get business class lounge access and great food.

    The seating and perks except for the wine were the same as what was available back in the 80’s!!! So what used to be economy is now premium!!!

    • @TravelSingFlyEnglishEdition
      @TravelSingFlyEnglishEdition  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Very true. That's exactly how it is! Only the premium classes get better and better. Economy is downgraded - how've we have much better entertainment now that back when we got 1-2 movies on a big screen... Remember? 😊🙈 It was a different, much slower time - and it had very good sides actually, too.....

    Nice review but I don't think a croissant defines a flight

    • @TravelSingFlyEnglishEdition
      @TravelSingFlyEnglishEdition  29 วันที่ผ่านมา

      😅 Of course not! That would be sad..... What defines a flight imo is seat comfort, value for price, and service attitude.

      That's a long flight. Bulkhead has the advantage that nobody in front will lean back...
      Disadvantage: you won't stretch your legs further than the wall... But I think it's still better. No warranties... 😉

    Oh that croissant made me laugh how could they even serve that. And I really can’t stand drinking out of cardboard or plastic and really that’s not acceptable in PE. But at least you didn’t have anyone sitting next to you so that does make the experience a little more acceptable. Surprised with so few in PE the service was lacking. 🥂

      In that case I'd rather invite you to watch other channels where it's all really generic, reproduced, copy pasted 100 times and edited in 5 hours than what I do.
