      Hey I bought one of the Mayflash F500 Elite sticks after your first video about them. I loved it so much and wanted some 2 player action so after a while I bought a second one. Well the second one came with ALOT more stuff. My first one had all the same as yours, but the second one had a few more cords with it, some round rubber feet to screw into the holes in the bottom and also an octagonal gate. Just thought it was cool and worth a mention. Keep making the great videos 🤘

    I went with the Mayflash 500 Elite. Once I changed the square to to the octagonal, it's been a great stick. The stick and buttons have that premium feel.

    I don't like the look of the 8bitdo stick but I like that the stick is further away from the buttons than the Mayflash. I find that the when the stick is far from directly in front of your elbow you end up moving up but in reality you are moving on an NE angle. They shouldn't make sticks so close to the buttons. If I ever make my own, I'm putting the stick and buttons further apart than these.

    The latency on the 8bitdo makes perfect sense. The switch doc sucks for wires connections. The pro controller has the same feature of it working better wirelessly

    One problem with the Mayflash is that the bottom are 'exposed' metal. My experience with older Madcatz stick that have metal bottom is they tend to rust, especially when use it on your lap (the sweat from your lap 'amplifies' the rusting process, so-to-speak). The 8bitdo doesn't suffer on that because the bottom is plastic. So, if you tend to hold on to your stick for quite a while (5 years for example), imo the 8bitdo is better. Moreover, it have a great 'baseline' for a stick (except for the buttons, which I recommended swapping it to better parts. Fyi, you don't have to buy the entire button, just buy the switch and use the stock plunger and body). And, if you mostly play on PC/Mac/RPi, the 8bitdo is much more appealing (both looks and connectivity/wireless).

    Good vid. Thanks for sharing. Just to share some updates 3yrs on.
    Compatibility with consoles. Non issue for both. Brook Wingman and Mayflash Magic are great adapters.
    8Bitdo is great to start with. Cost lesser than F500Elite. Could upgrade to tournament grade Sanwa parts whenever you desire. The biggest advantage is wireless capability.
    F500Elite is good if wireless feature is not important to you. It has already set you up with tournament grade Sanwa parts. You could already enjoy it feeling like a pro straight out of the box.
    Personally, as an avid gamer that enjoy the arcade feel and not big on competitions, I'd go with 8Bitdo. Wireless rocks. But if you are getting the arcade stick mainly for fighting games, consider looking into HitBox rather than a fight stick. It's winning over more and more players in tournaments due to certain advantage it has over traditional fight stick.

    You can easily replace snap in buttons with screw on buttons with the F500 while the 8Bitdo one does not have enough space to add them unless you took the whole PCB off and maybe use a dremel tool to shave the excess plastic. It's not really ultra moddable. I would say get the KOWAL mounting plate for the stick and F500 would be more ultra moddable than the 8Bitdo one.
    I rather use another stick than either of the two and heck I already have a 2.4 GHz stick for my PC, which is the Qanba Q1W which I got new for $60. Qanba stock parts are not that good but it would probably be the same if not equal with the 8Bitdo one but I added Seimitsu parts in it because I like Seimitsu parts better than Sanwa. I could add new art to my stick but I would have to custom build the plexi since there is none made for the Q1W but it seems more doable than whatever you would have to do for the 8Bitdo. In terms of wired I got the Qanba Q4RAF used for $60 which is good as it has stocked Sanwa parts. So I have sticks that I prefer to use and I just play fighting games on PC which both can be easily used.

    I bought an 8BitDo one on special last week and it looks like they have changed the bottom section. The metal has a much larger cutout in it under the stick. I'm assuming that's to help with wider stick compatibility. Just thought I'd mention it as I only just noticed.

    • @Harveeee
      @Harveeee ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi. I bought mine last month and same, the metal is pretty much "removed" in the joystick section of the bottom part to accommodate larger sticks. I wonder if it can already fit a Korean lever like Crown 309MJ? I'm planning to put a Korean lever on mine if that's possible. I'm asking because I haven't really bought one since I'm not sure if it'll fit.

    Yep, I have an original F500 Mayflash stick. Yes, I pretty much have all the systems it's compatible for. Plugging in a controller or adapter plug can be damned annoying. It works, but sometimes you have to work at it, honestly. And as for the original F500? Were you complaining about the button area caving in with repeated use with the original 8bitdo stick? yeah, I've noticed that with the F500. IMO, the sticks are two different beasts aimed at two different audiences. I bought the 8bitdo stick for the convenience of hooking it up to a bluetooth android device, and I don't regret it. I don't think I'd use a wireless stick to play anything competitive multiplayer, but for emulating a SNES game on my tablet? The 8bitdo is gold.

    Great stuff, thanks for sharing!
    Really sick Samurai Showdown art on that Mayflash! To me thats the biggest pro for any stick, customisable art. Simply makes a stick something more than just a controller. It makes you want to look at it and play some games. On the other hand wireless and even 2.4ghz is definitely a win over wired. Yet the option to place customised art seals the deal for me. Gotto love it.

    The new revision of ther 8bitdo that comes with philips screws, even fits a Seimitsu LS-32 without any changes. Just use the plate that comes with the 8bitdo. Before you used to have to dril a hole or sand the plastic. It also bits the LS-55, LS-56, LS-58, etc. as they are even smaller.

    I would personally side with the F500 mostly because of how customizable it is and because of how many consoles it works on. I've got two of them and I also use Brook adapters to play them on other consoles like my Neo Geo CD, PC Engine, PS1 & 2 and Sega Genesis. I'm planning to get Brook adapters for my Dreamcast and Saturn to use the F500 on to. It's really a lot of fun.

    What are the quality of the controls of the 8bitdo versus the Standard F500 since they are the only ones in the same price range? You say that "you may" want to swap out the standard F500 controls. Are they THAT bad and how do the 8bitdo controls compare? You said you'd go for the F500, but didn't say if it was the standard or elite version. I assume the elite, but it's not in the same price range as the 8bitdo. And if the standard F500 controls are so bad that they need to be replaced, that's effectively both a price increase and a hassle increase over the 8bitdo.

Two questions for you if I may, firstly I noticed in your video that you have replaced your restrictor gate with a Sanwa version, is it much better that the off-brand one that came with the stick? Secondly, have you updated the stick to the latest firmware and if you have, did you notice any improvement to imput lag? Many thanks.

    Can the 8bitdo Arcade Stick work on a PS3 or PS4 by hooking it up to a Mayflash Magic S Pro controller converter? If the 8bitdo Arcade Stick is recognized as a Nintendo Switch Pro controller, then I don't see why it wouldn't work on those other consoles as the Mayflash Magic S Pro is designed to sync a Switch Pro controller with other consoles.

    I think saying "the mayflash has more compatibility... (you just need to plug in an extra controller or buy an adapter)" Is kinda of a cheat. By that logic you can also get the 8bitdo to work with anything if you're willing to pay for adapters and EXTRA stuff. The 8bitdo is not great... but it's probably more bang for the buck than the mayflash F500. Especially if you're playing on PC which for me is the premium emulator platform.

    I have the standard Mayflash 500 that I threw some blue crome silent Sanwa buttons into alongside a hybrid Sanwa clone stick made from the Bit Bang Shuriken PCB and four 50gf Omron Microswitch's cradled in the OTTO v5 alongside a 4lb tension spring attached to a dark blue Link EX Grove...
    It might sound like overkill to some people but for me the Sanwa sticks just feel too cheap especially considering the amount of money you are throwing down on this overglorified digital control scheme anyway...

      That it doesnt have the PlayStation encoding to run... like you cannot use just any random bluetooth controller on the PlayStation, some work some don't. Mostly they need to have been designed to work on the 4 or 5 to have that compatibility and this was not designed with that in mind.

    I need a stick for the PC Engine Mini. Wonder if the Mayflash works with it?

  • @TheRealDustinNunn

    The Mayflash arcade stick controller series is gimmicky because you have to plug the Mayflash sticks into regular game console controllers. It's like plugging a Wii or Wii U arcade stick controller into a Wii Remote/Wii Remote Plus!

    My wife and I love your channel. Does the F500 elite work with the steam deck if it's docked? Our steam deck is coming tommrow and thank you for making the set up video for emulation. Thank you

    How do I use the Mayflash 500 with the Ps Classic? It just seemed to work only in the menu when I used it

    • @Madlittlepixel
      @Madlittlepixel  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry meant to say it's the same as the 8bitdo, as long as you are using autobleem it will prompt you to configure it.

    Wired this days means USB so no really a significative advance over wireless.
    Actually the PS4 gamepads has less latency over BT than USB.

      @@soyunbonus No, it's not. Remenber is USB not PS/2 or something like that.
